This ad campaign makes me want a black PSP to call my very own.
Only kidding. I do enjoy any ad campaign that stirs up trouble, though. People are so touchy nowadays. Political correctness sucks sometimes. -------------------- Join the Army, see the world, meet interesting people - and kill them. ~Pacifist Badge, 1978 |

Quote (SSJ_Cloud @ 12th July 2006 09:41) Quote (Zantetsuken @ 11th July 2006 23:16) Example: Its okay to have black pride marches and groups but when white people do it, its racist. They even have a black history MONTH... i never even heard of white history DAY, let alone month...When a white person beats up a black person, its a hate crime but when a black person beats up a white person, its just a fight. people take things WAY to seriously... just to be nice, they can call it the PSP Cracker... side notes: - African-American is pollitically incorrect... most black people don't come from/have never been to africa. -There is no NAANCP (National Association for the Advancement of Non-Colored People) or NAAWP (National Association for the Advancement of White People) or NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Caucasion People) Really? A Black History month? How dare them negroes! Maybe you haven't heard of "White History Day" because, you know, it's just about every single day. You are just as bad as the people shouting out racism at this ad. Don't even get me started how illogic your the rest of your post and sig are. ... I agree that the ad isn't racist. It's just stupid. Stupid really jives well with Sony's entire PSP ad campaign (the graffiti ads, anyone?). There is a reason the DS is doing better than the PSP. Well, contrary to popular belief, not every day is white history day... you dont see any damn shows on nickelodeon about it... j/k can you please elaborate on how illogicAL my sig is... just because you don't like it doesnt make it illogical. In all fairness, i kno ur a mod so i guess i cant state my opinion freely around you with out stirring up trouble. just one note: touchy people suck and political correctness is incredibly stupid. imagine how plain and grey the world would be if everyone was politically correct. Comedy would be pointless and so would any degree of humor if i had to start my jokes with "Two people of different skin color that are treated equally walk into a public drinking establishment..." And how exactly is every day white history day... do you care to elaborate because idk about you but i'm just not seeing it... and that, people, is what grinds my gears... All I have to say about this ad is: It's not racist, but very stupid. Hell, their squirrel drug addict commercials are more racist than this.

Well, this is old news but no one seems to have posted it:
http://www.gamespot.com/news/6153816.html Quote (Gamespot) Sony pulls controversial PSP ads [UPDATE]: Publisher confirms termination of ad campaign, apologizes to those who were offended. ... Today, one of those who criticized the ad and condemned Sony for running it, California Assemblyman Leland Yee, instead commended the publisher. According to a statement from Yee, Sony has pulled the advertising campaign and apologized to anyone offended by it. ... [UPDATE]: A Sony representative confirmed for GameSpot that the ads had been pulled, and offered the following statement: Whilst the images used in the campaign were intended solely to highlight the contrast between the different colors available for the PSP, we recognize that the subject matter of one specific image may have caused concern in some countries not directly affected by the advertising. As a result, we have now withdrawn the campaign. We further recognize that people have a wide variety of perceptions about such imagery and we wish to apologize to those who perceived the advert differently to that intended. In future, we will apply greater sensitivity in our selection of campaign imagery, and will take due account of the increasingly global reach of such local adverts, and their potential impact in other countries. According to the Sony representative, the company had only received a single complaint about the ads from within the Netherlands. Emphasis not my own. Sony is too big for its own good. Left hand doesn't know what the right is doing. Between this and their previous Rootkit fiasco, I'm not really surprised. What a marketing mistake... -------------------- Visions of Peace - Four Generals, One Empire, and the Returners caught in the middle. |

Quote (Djibriel @ 9th July 2006 12:39) Quote in the Netherlands where racial tension isn't as apparent as in the United States As a Dutchie who has visited the States and has had quite a few discussions with my US relative(s), let me assure you that that isn't true in the slightest. We have several fairly large groups of etnic minorities, and there are quite a few people who are very uncomfortable with that fact which leads to tension on both ends. Before he was assassinated by an environmentalist, of all people, Pim Fortuyn ran a very successful political campaign on an almost entirely anti-immigrant, mostly anti-muslim, basis, putting him on par with the likes of France's Jean-Marie Le Pen with one ironic difference--he was a homosexual, which goes to show that the Dutch are more tolerant of certain things, I suppose. Similarly, Theodore Van Gogh was assassinated because of perceived anti-muslim bias in his films. As someone who has been to the Netherlands, and dated a girl who lived there for a year and a half, it is as Djibriel says--there is certainly racial tension in the Netherlands, it is just of a different variety than that found here. On the subject of the ad, I have to admit that when I thought it was just the first ad running, I didn't think it was intentionally racist but certainly thought it was in bad taste. When I saw that the second ad was running also, I thought that negated the first ad and the two together were alright. So maybe there is something to what Silverlance said, although I think if I was under the impression that only the second ad was running I likewise would have found it in bad taste. "There are only two things I can't stand: people who are intolerant of other peoples cultures, and the Dutch." |
