Huh? Well, they're still here. Did you ever think with all the knowledge they have they might actually have a job to support themselves? They probably can't post all that often.

Or they're just sacrificing more virgins with Silverlance, who knows.

They're still around, the're just doing lots more else now, and although it's really really cool to see a Penguin fight Emerald WEAPON (that's right), they just aren't ready to show it off.

Well, they already have, we just can't play it.

Myself, I've moved to x86 hacking. It's more of a challenge than the 65816 (the instruction set is so limited...) and you have a lot more control over what you can do. :) Currently busy with Cave Story.

After editing maps, events, battle animations, making large changes to the game engine, and a few more things, I feel FF6 doesn't challenge me the way it used to anymore. I may as well use RPGMaker to create a project, were it not for the fact it'd be less tedious to do so. But maybe someday when I have some spare time and feel nostalgic I'll hunt around for a game nobody has touched yet and get busy shredding it. >:)

Yea I'm still here, but I've taken a very long break from ROM hacking. It was a lot of fuin making new battle animations with the commands RL gave me, but I just didn't have the time to finish a full-fledged hack. sleep.gif

Well let's see Djibriel is still around, Caesar and Runelancer just posted, Master Zed hasn't made any posts recently.

I did some hacking, but it was amatuer at best.

I suppose it's time for us veteran to fade into legend and let the new blood take over the ROM hacking scene. wink.gif We've had a good run, but things seem like they've ended for most of us.

That is, until we emerge from the shadows unexpectedly with a ROM hack to blow away everyone and change the face of ROM hacking as we know it forever. Ph33r.

(Disclaimer: I dunno. Really, in my case at least, FF6 hacking has reached a peak and any desired change to any part of the game is no longer out of reach. But nostalgia can hit pretty hard sometimes, and I'm sure Caesar will agree with me on this. Who knows what the future holds. Life is what you make of it. And various other bits of fortune cookie wisdom.)

Where did all the rom hackers go?

They all went to New York city to argue to make further FF's much harder and more entertaining. They also sent a letter to Squenix to apoligize to the gamers for making FF8. But really they just sit back and look at the ones who have to play a "normal" unchallenging game. Unless there nice biggrin.gif

I'm waiting for FF6 Advance. Until then, I have other things to entertain me.

I've got a mostly-finished hack, but lately I'm not working on it. Love triangles and quadrilaterals have sidetracked me, and frankly, I'm okay with that.

Anyway, interest in new, super-tough hacks seems to have waned a bit, so it's probably for the best. Someday it will come back (everything old is new again), and when it does, I expect to see enough interest to get me finished with this project.

If that doesn't happen, then at least my friends and I will have a novelty game to play with. smile.gif

RL and I both did. I mainly used characters from FFIV and a Penguin, but in his old FFVI hack, he used entirely new characters of his own making. Not really sure what Imzogelmo did really...

And yea, RL is right, nostalgia does hit pretty hard. Who knows what might be brewing as we speak.

Character edits (and I don't mean sprites alone, of course) are simple enough. I think the final barrier was editing maps, and now that that's been done there isn't much left to do. wink.gif The guys in my hack had a variety of custom skills, ranging from a cross between sword tech and blitz (pictured below) to stat-boosting skills. I honestly can't say I remember what was what, because my notes are no longer on this HD.

(Before anyone asks, no, I don't have this hack anymore. It's on a CD in a box currently in my appartment.)

Even had a replacement for the esper system which powered up certain spells and attacks and gave various bonus when equipped instead of teaching spells. Good times, good times indeed...

I had a hack that changed Edgar to Cid Highwind, another trait to this was that cid(Edgar) didn't need Dragon horn. Also changed Terra To Rydia. Locke once to Squall, but realized that was just to easy and remembered how much I hate squall so I changed him to mustadio. to correct Celes's color disfuntion she got a skimpier wardrobe change. Changed Sabin's shirt, made strago into Galuf, changed Shadow to Clyde, changed Cyan to old school Leon(FFII), with old school look altered to FFVI, and that was it for sprites.

Edit
also, don't think my changes were to make the game easier, I had already made several changes to make the game harder before it's deletion.
