You seriously have to learn to use the edit button, man. This is the second triple post you've had, and you only have 45 posts.

Anyways, as for custom monsters, there are a few that I put into my hack that I am particularly fond of:

Ultima Weapon:

Emerald Weapon:

Warmech (with Nuclear attack as shown):

And myself, Caesar, complete with more attacks and custom animations than I care to list, even though he, himself, doesn't look special:

Yea, that should do it. There are plenty of other cool bosses I made, but those are the highlights.

How do you do stuff like that? It looks very fun. I sort of know but I'd like to hear how you did it.

That sprite looks to be a combination of Golbez, Chaos and Ragnarok if you ask me. It just goes to show even the simplest things can have great results if you know what you're doing (which I don't).

A member here at CoN, Aora, made those sprites for me, and I programmed their AI and attacks. She made me three weapons: Emerald, Ruby, and Ultima. She was working on Diamond for me when I last talked to her, but I haven't seen or heard from her in awhile. There's hardly a need for it now, though, since I kind of stopped working on my hack awhile ago.

Talking back to a mod is a really cool way to get a nice reputation here, especially after I cut you some slack twice here. Quoth the rules:

Quote (OMG T3H RULEZ!)
Multiple Posts/Double Posting - This means when you make a new post after one you have just done, rather then using the edit button. There is no need for this, it just wastes space. Rather than making a new post, just click on edit, and add to what you have already written. Exceptions to this are, of course, when you are posting a fanfic and doing one chapter or page per post, and other instances like that.

In case you were wondering where I procured those: Rules

These are not suggestions. That's why they are called rules. And as for your saying that your triple posts are included in those exceptions, they certainly are not. It clearly lists only the one exception in the rules: fanfics.

Quote

not exactly... it says there are exceptions plus not all of those posts are in a row... and dont u have anything better to do than watch my posts? no? that sucks

I certainly do have better things to do than watch your posts, but it is my job to do so. I saw you triple post in the forums in which I am a mod, and then once again here, so I kept a mental tag on you.

I suggest that you read those rules once again and think before you mouth off to mods and members here. Don't like it? That sucks.

This slipped my mind, but seeing as it's related to this thread's topic, is there any place we can grab ahold of your boss mods, Caesar? I'm quite sure you posted a url once, but I can't seem to find it anymore...

I was impressed with Caesars depiction of himself as a boss. What abilities/stats/attacks did you give him? Fallen One, obviously, but what else in addition to?

My boss had attacks that covered every element in the game, and a few that covered multiple elements, so you couldn't just equip the flame shield to protect them. Most of these were new attacks, so listing their names doesn't really do too much. Besides the dual/triple elemental attacks, I gave him a new attack called PsionBurst, which he uses at the beginning of his attack script and at other times throughout the battle which brings everybody down to 1 HP and inflicts them with a bunch of statii (confusion shown in the picture). Since his attacks can poison you, and you have 1 HP every few turns, it becomes interesting.

I just remembered I have a file that I used to keep my changes organized. Here's part of Caesar's entry:

Attacks include: CursedAura, ShadowFlare, ThumbsDown, Volcano, Scorcher, Penguinize, Thundr, N. Cross, Flare Star, Crystal Meteor, Quake, El Nino, Psion Burst, counterattack with Poison Ivy, counterattack every third attack with Dark Holy.

You can guess what elements most of tholse attacks are. Cursed Aura, IIRC, induces stop and slow or something like that. I thought I got rid of that attack, though, because it was cheap. Idk. Penguinize turns you into a Penguin, Crystal Meteor freezes you (but you usually get thawed before too long), and Dark Holy and Shadow Flare just deal mass amounts of non-elemental damage.

RL, I never released a monster patch because I never really finished the things that'd make it playable. Setzer's sprite is half-finished and Omnislash doesn't deal damage every swing like I want it to (no damage function). But that'd make it a little broken and would require counters in the enemy AI against it. I suppose I could make up a patch though and include some savestates to go with it, in front of each of my bosses (Warmech, Emerald, Ruby, Ultima, Caesar, Plague, etc.) Now that I think about it, I made tons of bosses...

Edit
Now that I look some more at my creations, there are some particularly nasty AI scripts that I made. Some bosses use in-game glitches against you, some just have pretty great anti-strategy attacks programmed in, and some are just mean in general, like using Revenger and Ultima if you're frozen. Should be loads of fun for everybody!

I've done it. It takes awhile. After you eliminate all his elemental attacks with Forcefield, it's smooth sailing. Two people to heal and two to deal damage. Should be finished in a few rounds after that (except for Nuclear). He's not terrible, really. He just seems impossible the first few times you fight him.

Did you seriously think the fight against ME would be that easy? tongue.gif

What'd be great is a way to prevent multiple attacks through offering/genji glove. Or to curb the piercing damage formula enough to prevent 9999 damage hits.

Anyone with an atma weapon, genji glove, offering, and some other really good weapon could beat anything (short of using the > 65536 HP trick) in one round if lucky enough to get a hit in before the boss's opening attack.

That seemse pretty cool except for the name, One question what FF is that intended for?

That was some of the thinig I was working on in my hack. I had some Ideas like change offering to attack three time no matter what (even if you have genji) Also; makes Cyan's speed stat affect his swordtech so the higher his speed the faster the bar moves, Inrease the HP cap, Give bosses some full heal spells (like Zeromus) make all bosses immune to vanish as well as fix vanish doom, Then I had increased stats of some bosses I was trying to make a LLG impossible, while forcing you to use LLG tactics to survive. So you would be level 65 hav all characters in the back row, just to beat Ice Dragon. hmm I may restart hacking sometime soon.

RL, I didn't even bother trying to fix the Offering/Genji Glove strat. Instead, I used enemy AI to circumvent the use of it. Use it on Warmech and you instantly lose the battle. Use it on Caesar and he'll confuse you beforehand, which in turn just makes you kill all your teammates. You can use it on all the others, but you'd face their wrath (a Revenge counterattack is pretty fearsome after you deal 30k damage to them).

Well at the time of my plans( which I had on a checklist) I had just started using a hex editor, read some of masterZed's notes, and as I was wroking on genji/offering (first step they can't be used to gether) finals came along I started losing free time just about every day, then I forgot about it. i'm not even sure when I'll start up again.

Caeser punishment for Genji/Offering is pretty funny. I'd love to see some of the people who are Crazy about level 99 Locke play your hack

Because it's the only way this thread can have any practical use whatsoever (short of writing a game from the ground-up.) Pretty pictures and melodramatic attack names are interesting, but design can only go so far until it's put to practical use.

A few members here are ROM hackers. Caesar and I undertook a perilous journey through FF6's animation scripts and cracked pretty much the whole thing together. He started a rather impressive series of custom bosses in a hack of his, tossing in a multitude of highly impressive custom animations along with it. Every once in a while we'd work on additional stuff (I'd do most of the assembly code, and he'd assemble this stuff together in his hack to make use of it with his new spells.) While his work is certainly not the first boss hack out there, it's quite definately the most impressive.

Currently his hack is on hold (or indefinately halted?) As for myself I've moved on to PC hacks (Cave Story currently.) But there are plenty of promising ROM hackers to take up the torch and create boss hacks from the ideas being tossed around in this thread - it's better to give it a use than to just keep on ranting about what could be. wink.gif

Wow! I've always been interested in stuff like that. Love the Emmy. tongue.gif

I do have a question, if it isn't too off-topic...do these super bosses have the max 65,353 (or whatever it was) Hp, or do they 'refill' so they have more than the limit?

Edit: Are these hacks available in patches somewhere? On this site? Actually I should...*takes a look*
