Final Fantasy VIII....
NOT! I voted for final fantasy VI, generally some FF's will have a villian who is just out to destroy the world (X-death, Kuja, Sephiroth) Kefka Possible spoilers: highlight to view conquers the world under a fist of tyranny It was a break from the trend of crystals as well, it has a very unique plot, that is less linnear than any other FF. FFVI's plot hands down. Edit Plus nearly every character had a unique and intriguing background, with slightly varying personalities. I love the in depth plot. VI, of course. It was a good balance between Medieval fantasy and modern technology, and it was set in probably the most realistic of the worlds. It was a plot I truly enjoyed.
And, for the record, FFX's plot is a ripoff of Breath of Fire II, which is something many FFX fans don't know. -CSM -------------------- The NEW Final Fantasy Wiki! Join us! |

You seem to have left the best one off your list of options. Tactics, easily has the best plot. Betrayal and Intrigue abound and characters aren't flat and annoying like many other games.

The best plot for me was FFIX, a beautiful love story concerning other subjects as life and death, the will to live, the past of the characters...the plot is real beautiful.

Aw, I liked all of 'em...I guess I'd vote for VI, or Tactics. (Although, anything anyone ever complains about is in all the games, so I'll never understand.)
Bonus points go to FFVIII (Surreality!!=3) and FFV (Refined classic formula!! And surreality!) This post has been edited by Zeromus_X on 2nd July 2006 02:34 -------------------- |

I loved every FF game I played and the plots in all of them. As for best plot I'd pick FFT hands down! Because it's not listed as an option, I'll vote for what I think is the second-best FF plot, FFIX.

FFX or FFT were the only two I thought were great. Other FFs benefited from good characters rather than good plot, though both FFT and FFX did have good characters as well.

Final Fantasy VI, for reasons that have been stated numerous times by myself and many others. A surprisingly complex and compelling plot accentuated by unforgettable characters and an intriguing setting. Always my favorite.

VI is esquisitly good for plot. Theres a war, you discover what could save the world or destroy it,
Possible spoilers: highlight to view It has everything for a good plot. I would add more, but i don't want to ruin it for the curious. FF6 Doesn't just have a good plot but also awesome gameplay. The background for some characters like Shadow is just amazing, i sometimes wonder how Squenix comes up with this stuff, even if they are a huuuge gaming company. Why sometimes it even has some funny stuff in the plot like "it's a little tight but the price was right!" -Locke magic. Terra is a half esper. The world does get destroyed. FFVII did have a awesome plot but VI gets my vote. But FFVII did have some incredibly shocking moments with Clouds and Sephiroths backstory along with Tifa's. But just like i said how can Squenix come up with this awesome stuff?! -------------------- Kel'Thuzad: She is persistent. Reminds me of you, death knight. I loved it, but it wasn't my favorite. (I probably could never decide on a definite favorite.) Of course, I'd bet a good number of people on this board would vote for Tactics anyway.

FF6. It's not some case of either throwing you right in to save the world, not some case of one man and his comrades versus one other man, and it's not a case where the lead character is all that really matters, it's just a war. It starts off simple and doesn't get boring, doesn't get too daft, and above all, is coherent enough.

I think FFX because it's clever the way Yu Yevon is behind everything by manipulating Sin to gain power for Yevon. There are many other reasons but this reason seems to outshine the rest.

Obviously FFT.
For a plot you can hardly get better than all what Delita has done to reshape the world in his own manner. He did things that some people would say it's unexcusable, but he already went too far to stop and everything (almost) worked has he planned. -------------------- Sayonara |

I picked FFVII. It was hard to decide, but when I thought about it, FFVII did have the best story for me. Next would probably be ff6, ffx, ff9, ff8, then ff4.

That's really tough.
FFII had a nice, basc plot that really stands out. Four had a nice one, but it got really cluttered and melodramatic. VI was okay, but then the whole thing fell apart on the second half. VII, oh no, I am not who I think I am, or am I or are you, or do I want to kill myself or do you want to kill who you think is me or does that person want to kill you thinking that you are me, when I am really them? Please, that was a terrible plot. VIII's was worse. And then IX came along, and it was similar to IV's in that it started really nice but then got too cluttered and emotional and just...wrong. FFX, however, is a gem. I think that its plot is amazing. Followed by FFII and then Tactics (which would probably be higher if it were translated instead of a jurbled mess). |

Final Fantasy 1, 3, and 5 had the best plots and crystals are what made Final Fantasy so interesting to me. Sure they're "cliche" but what other RPGs don't use magical/powerful orbs? Well there are some RPGs that don't, but most of them still use crystals but they rename them to make people think it's a new thing.
Psht.. Huge Materia. FF5 gets my vote because it's my favorite FF and the story was much more revamped and well-developed compared to 1 and 3. Saving the world by using special powers from crystals to defeat ambitious evil lords rules all other RPG plots, yo! |

Final Fantasy Tactics: no frills, all politics. That no other FF game involves the same level of intertwining deceit and back-stabbing sets it apart even more.

Quote (Super Moogle) Final Fantasy VI, for reasons that have been stated numerous times by myself and many others. A surprisingly complex and compelling plot accentuated by unforgettable characters and an intriguing setting. Always my favorite. Same here. Overall very solid (coughFFIVcough) and very coherent (coughFFVIIcough) plot, expressed very well in aptly-written dialogue and aptly-placed scenes. But I'll also add that I love how they strike a balance between all of the characters, such that most of them get about the same amount of "plot time"--that was a nice plot touch, and I felt it made the "effort" feel like a "team" effort the way a single-character-centric plot couldn't have done it. Just for your information, my second choice is FFV, which has a very compelling and solid, albeit cliché, plot. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. Tactics.
This game did not have one plot. It had HUNDREDS. The best part about it was that it was chronicling a war, so everyone involved- The good, the bad, the unimportant- had their own piece to add to the HUGE puzzle. VI. I voted for this game though, because it is so deep and it broke the mold for the seemingly endless pile of "collect crystals. Oh no! We're too late" that came from the final fantasies. As everyone and their cousin has said, its characters were so unique and nmot just the young hero, the childhood friend, the other childhood friend that is a love interest, and the "angsty" kid. Unfortunately, it had to be followed by VII, which had the stupidest plot. If the biggest twist in the plot was that the protagonist was too embarassed about himself and lied about his identity (not unlike a first grader who claims his house has a hundred baffrooms), then it's not the game for me. If I could have made a suggestion, I would say to take out FFIII when you made this and put in tactics, considering the U.S. hasnt gotten FFIII yet. -------------------- Can you pull down the dawn? It's not stupid, it has more holes than my last bike tyre but it's ingenious. Instead of forcing you into a story and keeping you in a small tunnel as far as depth goes - it is expansive and allows you to decide much of the history and characters for yourself.
