This goes for all FF games but FFVII the most. When someone like Aeris dies, why not just use a phoesnix down... u can do it normally why not then? damn the item! at least in FFVI, you can only use it on the WOUNDED (ko'd)

Quote (The Grand List of Console Role Playing Game Cliches @ Number153) "Mommy, why didn't they just use a Phoenix Down on Aeris?" Don't expect battle mechanics to carry over into the "real world." And if anyone's going to 'dig deeper' into something like this that wasn't meant to be overthought, than I'd say really, just because of that. 'Dead' can be interpreted as 'wounded', 'injured', 'incapacitated', or many other things. It doesn't have any bearing on the story. Of course, I doubt the creators of the game thought people would even want to think about it more than necessary... It's like the FMV-sequences Vs Battles. The character can get hit by a bullet and keep going in battle, but not in FMVs.
If you use a Phoenix down, you are curing the KO'd status. Aeris was killed. The FMV thing links in here too - because she was killed in a cutscene rather than a battle, she is dead and not just knocked out. |

Mhmm. Mythologically speaking, Pheonixes have the power to heal any wounds, but not death. Aeris was already dead, so one of those wouldn't work.
Same reason you can't use a Soft on Red's dad, or on the Twins in FFIV for that matter. -------------------- You're telling me that there's no hope. I'm telling you you're wrong. |

Even if you use "Soft" or "Remedy", they still wouldn't come back because it wasn't meant to emulate gameplay because they were supposed to be "memorable" and if someone dies in the story, it's best to stay in that condition so we could hate the villain for a good reason. Same reason you can't use a Soft on Red's dad, or on the Twins in FFIV for that matter. If they were revived in the story like in Chrono Trigger, Crono would just be a punk again and I wouldn't hate Lavos anymore for being the reason Crono had to sacrifice himself. |

Yeah like everyone's been saying Aeris is dead and the Phoenix Down description is that it heals the KO status. So using the Phoenix Down on a dead person wouldn't work.
Like everyone's been saying about "how comes they don't die in battle" well then the game would be pretty tedious and hard if every time your HP was depleted to 0 you were unable to use them again. This post has been edited by Silver 09 on 4th July 2006 07:44 |

How about, it's too expensive to save somebody who abandoned the group to go solo. Phoenix downs cost money, and Barret needs to save up money for Marlene's schoolin'

Yeah...I always thought it couldn't be used on Aeris because she was actually dead. When someone "dies" during battle, they are just considered knocked out. Thus the Phoenix Down can revive them from knocked out status, but not real death.

I don't actually know where the whole "death" thing came from in some people. The game never says that they are dead, so why do people assume that in the first place? That fact they're just KOed has been said enough, but I've no idea why people think that they're reviving dead comrades...

Because by the time they thought to use a Phoenix Down, Cloud had already dropped her in the water.
But seriously, she actually died whereas Phoenix Downs 'revive' people who are KO'd. ![]() -------------------- Come with me so I can show you how to live Burning the candle at both ends I’m gripping at the walls around me Don’t complicate it I’m addicted to this life I’ll be your token of attention All my lies come down to this -Orgy, "Beautiful Disgrace" |
