There is no in-game information about him beyond the imposter bit. Any other information is fan-made, meaning it has no official value.

How I would put it:
First off, it's important to note the deal with the z/s. Woolsey was inconsistent in the way he spelled the name, ranging from Ziegfried to Sigfried. Siegfried is the name given to him in-battle so that's the correct one. Even though 'Siegfried' should have been correct in all cases, fans often call the imposter 'Ziegfried' and the real deal by the normal name. This isn't supported so much by the game though, more of a fanbase though for an easy distinction. It's very strongly hinted at that the imposter thing is true. The Siegfried in the Phantom Train and the Cave of Figaro share similair tactics where the first one is actually very weak in a fight. The one in the Colloseum resembles this in no way; he's very powerful, composed and warns you about the situation. The fake Siegfried has a minor tidbit about him; he shares some connection to Ultros. The line "These'll get Ziegfried's attention!" used by Ultros is to vague to explain anything by, though. In the RPGone translation patch which is more close to the Japanese game, Ultros/Orthros calls him 'big brother' there, but I don't know the specifics about it. I'm sure it's just a nickname or something. Also, you may want to be aware of a small controversy surrounding his in-battle appearance; some see him holding a gun, which might explain HyperDrive but wouldn't go with him swordsman image, others see a fold in his cape. I've always seen the gun. -------------------- |

Well, I'd be among the school of thought that believes Ziegfried was once a train robber alongside Clyde and Baram. All three, at some point, were involved in a heist that went awry in some form or other. It's also kind of peculiar to me that all surviving members of this [possible] triad wound up at the Coliseum a year later. It's conjecture at best, but part of me believes that Ziegfried harbors some sort of grudge against Clyde, possibly from his hesitation in killing Baram as he was supposed to so that the train jacker's code couldn't be broken.
As Djibriel pointed out, there is also a connection between Ultros and Ziegfried (or Siegfried, if you will), though I can't really put my finger on what that's supposed to be. I'm blanking a bit on when Ultra said that 'These will get Siegfried's attention', though. Was this when he came across those statues outside of Thamasa? I hope that Square'll give Seigfried more background in FF6A.
