Ultima can be learned from:
1) Ragnarock Esper 2) Paladin Shield -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

The only other way I can remember to get Ultima is to get Terra to level 99. Are you sure that isn't what happened, or that you weren't wearing the Paladin Shield? In nearly ten years of the game being available, noone has reported being able to learn it from Maduin, as far as I know.

Terra learns Ultima at 99. Â Celes learns Meteor at 98.
EDIT: Whilst you check that, you might want to look through the levels you have for SwdTech and Blitz. Cleave is not learned by level up at 40, for one. Ragnarok, Paladin Shld, and leveling up Terra are the only three ways to learn Ultima. Â No other exists. Â You can cast it another way through Sketching final Kefka, but that's it. If you really must check though, you can always wade through the code yourself. ![]() -------------------- |

*cough*
Okay, by now I trust that you're right and we're wrong. Fixed. By the way, off-topic: I had to open up my disgusting old copy of Internet Explorer to look at your site. That web host seems to block any traffic from non-IE (or at least Mozilla based: Camino, Firebird, Netscape) browsers, and Opera, i.e. you can't view it with good browisng software, at least for Windows. A shame for such a useful site to be blocked from portions of the webgoing public, though not really your fault, I appreciate. In any case, regardless of level, we do seem to agree that these are the only ways of getting Ultima. I am glad of this. |

There are three ways to get Ultima. Terra can gain Ultima at level 99 or somewhere close to it. The Ragnarok esper teaches Ultima (though this means you forego the ragnarok/illumina swords). The Paladin Shield teaches it as well. You have to get the "cursed shield" from Narshe (in one of the locked buildings so you'll need Locke). You have to equip it (and a ribbon would help too since you're hit with EVERY status effect) and fight 255 battles and it will become the Paladin Shield (The most incredible shield in the game...your char basically becomes invincible).

256, not 255. 255 to max the counter, one more to overflow and uncurse. And don't use Gogo for it. The shield check is right after the first step in the code to learn Magic at the end of battle. Really stupid, yes.
Also, LV. 99 is where Terra learns Ultima exactly, not somewhere close to it unless another method besides leveling up is used. -------------------- |
