Just wanted to throw out a simple topic to see who was in the BSA or is in...

How far did you get rankwise?

For those not in the BSA, did you ever reconsider or why didnt you join?

I only did Cub Scouting, the one for the year where you're in school but too young to be an actual Boy Scout. It never really interested me, I think mostly because the leader was my dad, and I never had as much fun hanging out with my dad when I was at the meetings as I did hanging out with him in other environments. My memory of the whole thing was a bit fuzzy anyway, because it's been over 20 years now.

I was a Boy Scout for probably six or seven years, starting from elementary school in cub scouts. I had to quit my freshman year in high school (I was a Star) because I decided band, school, and soccer were more important to me. I enjoyed it, though, and I was my troop naturalist for two years

I never got into scouts, but I wish that I had. My memories are of my friends that were scouts always going off doing all kinds of cool things like learning how to repel down rock faces, and go camping and kayaking and such.

I realized i never put my 2 cents in...

I am a to-be eagle scout, as soon as i finish one more merit badge. I loved doing the 78.5-mile circuit of lakes called the Bowron Lakes up in BC in a canoe...that was the most memorable thing to me!

I never really got into hanging out with the people in my troop, but I did make it to Life Scout before I finally decided it wasn't worth it

I was in Cub Scouts and I think I might have gone into Boy Scouts... can't entirely remember. Not quite sure what rank I reached, either. My biological father was huge into the Scouts.

My grandfather was a scoutmaster for decades, he died recently. Name was David Teichman.

My uncle was an Eagle Scout, my other uncle was a regular boy scout I think, my dad was a cub scout. I never started.

In Canada, we have our equivalent in Girl Scouts divided up into sections according to age. I was in Brownies (elementary school), then Girl Guides (junior high), then Pathfinders (high school). There's also something called Sparks now that wasn't around when I was the appropriate age, it's for kindergarden/preschool girls. I have no idea what the boys do, but there is something for them, too.

Anyway, I loved it, especially the camping trips (we have great campgrounds in PEI). I don't think I had too many badges, but I still have them somewhere.

My mother was a Brownie leader while me and my sisters were that age. I think the title was Brown Owl.

Edit: As a whole, it's called the Girl Guides of Canada.

I had an old signature. Now I've changed it.

I did all of cub scouts and about a year and a half of boy scouts. I quit because the turned out to be really creepy and oblivious to what was going on in the world. the leader was like, this 70 year old jeriatric who wanted us to go around recruiting. they made one of my friends want to join the army for a while. i got out fast and so did he thankfully.

Elena: IIRC, BSA goes: Tiger Cubs for first graders, Wolf Cubs for second graders, Bear Cubs for third graders, Weeblos for fourth and fifth graders, and Boy scouts for middle and high school.

I was in it for a few years, and loved every minute of it, once I joined the right troop. I made it to First Class (?) before I left (disappeared is more accurate). My mom suddenly decided she didn't want to give me a ride any more.

I was in it since the starting age 8 i think, and i made it 3 merit Badges away from Eagle. i was at that position for about 2 years in hich i really didnt care to get it and i know 2 of the remaining took 3 months to complete.

Some people say its sad when I can walk them through FFVII in my head. I call it a gift.

Life scout here who isn't currently looking for eagle, though I might pick back up again soon. I liked scouting a bit but I haven't loved every minute of it becasue most of the other guys in my troop are less than great to say the least. I still have to get like 6 eagle required merit badges before going eagle and I don't really have the time for that. Well I do, but I sure as hell can fill it up before having to trudge trhough those tedoius lessons and requirements again.

I went to the one before eagle. Then I got a job and a more time consuming social life outside Boy Scouts and that was it. I really enjoyed it for the time I was in it though.

I was in cub scouts, but then I didnt make it too far in Boy Scouts, especially after the Boy Scout Camp that was supposed to help you be weened into boy scouts. I'm not sure if it was the kid that was in the bunk below me (who I think had a crush on me...), the army recruitement brochoures everywhere, or the fact that there were two kids that had to go home due to injuries of some sort (One was salminela, the other I think was a boating accident), but I did not last too long...

I was a cub scout along with my brother. My father was even a pack leader, so things were convenient. I remember having to do all these little tricks or hunting objectives to earn badges, and it was actually fun now that I look back on it in retrospect. I actually learned how to swim due to the scouts, in a roundabout way.

But my heart was never really fully in it at the time, and the very instant that I got my arrow of light and became a Boy Scout, I up and quit. So I am both an achiever and a quitter at the same time. If I had to do it over again, I probably would've remained in the Scouts. The money that goes with being an Eagle Scout (via awards and high school recognition) would've gone a long way toward a more secure financial college standing, no doubt. I remember my graduation class had one Eagle Scout in it, and he was showered with money and awards that he's still living off of, IIRC.

To clarify, it's not money just for being an Eagle Scout per se, just the type of outstanding citizen awards that were given away at our graduation, with the scholarship programs and scholastic donations. Most of the donators looked for the high school kids that had a lot of community activity services and such, which was a main function of the Boy Scout program, so the kid that was in our class was an ideal choice for the awards.

Who gave an Eagle Scout money. My brother made it to Eagle Scout and got nothing...... If Eagle Scout got you enough cash to live off of, I would've finished the last bit I had.
