I'm a mod at another board, and generally, we find the more "accurate" measure for board respect to be the join date. If you're still here and haven't gotten banned yet, good for you! However, content does play a large role, and there are certain posters that are about who....aren't as much of a resource as others.

for it just determines how much time they devote to visiting the site, you coul have 700 posts on the site, but registered and posted back in 2002 for all i know, it really depensds on time devoted.

Well, I'm a big hypocrite. When I was starting out, I didn't want people to judge me on my post count, but conversely, I had greater respect for people with huge post counts. Now that I've got a few posts under my belt, I'm mixed on the issue. I've been here long enough to get to know the regulars, and who can be trusted on what issues, and I've known a few people with phenominal post counts who aren't all that and a bag of chips. Still, I when I see someone with a respectable post count I usualy trust their judgement easier than someone with few post counts, because then I know they're committed to the site, and know the mechanics of the site better.

As for posting for posting's sake... Eww... Just ewww...

I originally saw post count to reflect how long that person has been on CoN, but that's not always the case with some people. Plus, that's before I realized that ther is "join date" under the users' avatars/names/post counts. As far as my post count I don't find it really important.

Well, some people tend to see post count as this indicator of importance. I have been on forums where this is the case, but to me, they are just numbers on a screen. It's like several people have said, most of the time I judge a person by quality and not quantity. Though some of us have both(generally those who have been here a year plus) I, being rather new myself, tend to 'lurk' at the forum, reading over old posts and whatnot, occasionally injecting my opinion into a topic. Fpr the most part I just laugh at some of the ludicrous ideas that I have seen (especially in the FF7 section) and mull over the topics that strike a discordant key within(usually the FF4 topics). Anyway, post count is indicitive of nothing, and merely an addendum to the side bar that helps me realize how much I open my mouth and insert my foot here at CoN.

This is a webcomic and gaming blog where I rant about nonsense. Enjoy.

I don't care about the post count necessarily. I just look forward to which title comes after whatever one I hold currently. As for people with high post counts, well, I figure they just have a lot to say.

One pet peeve of mine is to see someone post their thoughts/views, only to have them shot down by an "old timer", accompanied by some ridiculous comment about how "they can have an opinion on that when they've been here longer". Thankfully, I've never seen that attitude displayed here. We generally go for the trashing your opinion logically, point by point, here. thumbup.gif
