First time poster here!
Up until last month, I'd only played FF1, 3, 4, 5 and 6, but my desire to continue the series finally overwhelmed me, so I went out and bought a PS2 and FF7. I must say it's a really fun game! Slightly below FF6 in my opinion, but that's a pretty high standard. ![]() Anyway, being the perfectionist I am, after beating the game I had to find all the secrets, etc. But something funny happened to me after fighting Ruby Weapon. After a very long battle, I finally knocked him off, but the "battle" kept going! Could stood there, ready to attack (with a Limit Break no less), but I couldn't target anything with the limit break as Ruby Weapon was gone! There was nothing I could do but run from the battle. After about 1 solid minute of trying, Cloud finally managed to run away from nothing. Back on the world map, Ruby Weapon was indeed gone. But I was distressed I didn't get a victory pose from Cloud, any AP, or a Desert Rose! Is this a known bug? I glanced through this site but didn't see it mentioned (although this forum doesn't like me searching for the word "bug" for some reason, maybe too short). Although not getting anything wasn't too distressing (Could was Level 99, I already had a Gold Chocobo, etc.), I'm just curious if this has happened to anybody else before. |

I've never heard anything like that. Have you had any other glitches with that particular copy?

No other bugs that I noticed...
What I should have done was save the game where I defeated Ruby Weapon without actually winning in a separate save slot, and tried fighting him again to see if I could repeat it. Or course, I didn't think to do that. And I don't want to play through the game all over again to see if I can repeat it (FF8 is next!). Anybody else/any other ideas? |

Can't say it's happened to me, but my game is apparently the only one used by the members of CoN that doesn't have any bugs.

I can see two possibilities.
The game sometimes trips up when trying to load the victory theme. You can abuse Regen by opening the PSX after the battle ends and before the victory theme kicks in (while the last enemy is dying) and your party will sit there while Regen keeps going until you close the cover again. A scratch, some dust, or some other fault in your PSX/disc could've caused the victory theme to be unloadable after the battle. Also, various Gameshark codes could be responsible. FF7 uses temporary spots in memory to load some battle-related data, and a Gameshark/codebreaker/whatnot basically locks a value into the address you specify when entering a code. Either way, this isn't normal behavior for the game. -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

Maybe you should have tried using an all-targetting attack? (Or was could you not at the moment?)
Then that might have automatically targetted something. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. Whenever I tried to do anything (attack or heal, use an item, anything) the pointer to select what to operate on changed into the white glove with a red "X" over it, like what happens when you try to target something but an event is occurring such as a Summon animation. The only thing Cloud could do was run.
I'm just surprised I'm the only person on this board who's experienced this glitch, especially since the game's been out for so long! I suppose it could have been dust or a scratch on the disc as Silverlance suggests. I bought the game off eBay. The disc in question (disc 3) looks like you think it would for a CD that old: a couple of very light scratches, that don't appear deep enough to cause trouble. But you never know... |

Quote (BoBear2681 @ 14th June 2006 12:37) (FF8 is next!) If your heart is hard as a rock, you can go, but if not, I'd suggest to skip FFVIII. This doesn't seem like a normal glitch at all, and you should have done the following instead of jump on the option to run. 1- Waiting (Obviously, you waited) 2- Cleaning disc - Warning: Doing the above step may result in scratching your disc while trying to clean it. We'd suggest you not to use 3- Switching disc - Warning: Do NOT play freesbee with your disc during this step. 4- Hammer your PSX - Warning: You may not be able to return your PSX for malfunctions after this step. 5-Cut off power (don't just unplug your PSX, cut off the power of all your house) - Warning: Playing with on/off switches increases your electricity bill. 6- Put your CD in the microwave and try again - Warning: Whats happens to an egg in a microwaves? Well the same will happen to your microwave, so ask your parents before doing this. 7- Run - That's it, run as the coward that you are. -------------------- Sayonara |

It happened to me once. I think it was because I continuosly copycated Comet2 attacks with all my characters in lucky7. Finally, Ruby died and there was no enemy to target, so I too ran away. And yes, Ruby was no more in desert, and I didn't get Exp, AP or the Sand Ruby...excuse me, the Desert Rose

Doesn't sound like anything likely to happen again, I'm guessing it was a one off...
And why does everybody dislike FF8? It's still a good game |

Didn't R51 already warn you about derailling threads with FF VIII praise, BahamutZ?
And yeah, I suspect it's some kind of glitch - it was probably triggered by a computer-confusing set of commands entered just as the battle was ending or damage to your disk. Try borrowing someone else's disk 3 if you keep experiencing the problem after you've cleaned the disk off and tried again. And yeah FF VIII. I don't explicity hate the game like some people on this board do, but it is definitely among my least favorite FF games. It's not that it's as god-awful as Del would lead you to believe, it's just that it was really below Square's standard. -------------------- |
