If any characters that arn't in your party of 3 are equipped with materia, does it grow over time. Cuz I know that they gain EXP but I'm not sure if they get AP.

You know what...I'm not completely sure, but I think in order for a materia to be leveled up it must be attached to one of the 3 people in your main party. I never put materia on other party members unless they were in my group. That's why I kind of like the Junction Exchange thing on FF8. But I could be mistaken.

Yea I never put materia on other guys either, but I'm gonna try it and see if it gains AP, cuz if it does then I could master materia alott faster.
 What's the junction exchange - I've never played FF8 |

It just switches what things they had Junctioned to another party member. (In other words, that would have been useful to switch Materia to another member. But some armor setups would be different....)

I don't think the other materia gains AP, since there's been times when a lot of materia on members not my current party have been very close to level up, and a few hours battling later it hasn't changed. So I say no.

If you think about reality,where would they get the AP from?Now i know the reason for exp is because you pretty well much have to use all the characters,besides Yuffie and Vincent.
