![]() http://64dd.emedian.net/64dd.net/content/g...4_tech_demo.avi well its a battle with locke, terra, and shadow against some kind of rock monster. be aware, that terra is very scantily clad, but the vid itself is alrite. ![]() -------------------- "The answer is, of course, that it would be best to be both loved and feared. I've heard about the tech demo a little while ago, but I think that was all it was. I don't believe they were planning to re-release FFVI, they were simply using known characters to test the abilities of the system. If I recall, the Playstation won the bid b/c of it's FMVs

Kane's correct.
The FFVI SGI demo of Terra, Locke, and Shadow fighting against a giant rock monster was intended as a test of the N64's graphical capabilities back when FFVII - as announced via a few gaming mags at the time (including Nintendo Power, if I recall correctly) - was still slated to be released on the system, prior to Nintendo's and Square's financial bickerin' and halting of support for one another. As the demo's graphics suggest, FFVII's in-game (non-FMV) visuals would've turned out loads better had the game appeared on the '64. Square has done the exact same thing in the past for next-gen game systems after the N64 as well: The company updated the ballroom/dance scene from FFVIII in order to test the PlayStation 2's graphical output, and they recently did just the same to FFVII's opening as a way to test out the upcoming PlayStation 3's graphics. Similarly, Nintendo released that infamous Space World 2000 demo featuring Link and Ganondorf engaged in a heated battle to show off the GameCube's abilities. In all the above cases, despite the numerous rumors associated with 'em, the demos mentioned were never intended to be taken by fans as previews to full-length games/remakes. Actually it's because it wouldn't be that they didn't release it on N64, there wasn't enough room on one cartredge for the whole of FF7... And since the memomry card-esk data is saved in the cartredge... There woul be no way to carry on the game with the same stats as on the previous disk |

The game would certainly have been different, but I can only assume that the in game graphics would indeed have been better, in keeping with N64 games compared to PSX games in general. |

And since the memomry card-esk data is saved in the cartredge... There woul be no way to carry on the game with the same stats as on the previous disk As Tiddles stated, FFVII would very much have fit onto a N64 cart just fine 'n' dandily (as well as worked well with the controller save paks like most other '64 titles) had the game been designed for it as originally planned, hence the "what if" situation presented. The only reason the game turned out larger - that is, if a hypothetical N64 version indeed could be considered all that much smaller (it'd lack the FMVs to suit the system's abilities, that's 'bout it) - would be due to different hardware and software capabilities that fell within Square's grasp after they had switched to developing Sony discs. It isn't as though Square got into a heated debate with Nintendo, resulting in both companies reportedly vowing never to work with the other again (and how long did that grudge last?), and then moved on to play for Sony's team all 'cause they felt their next Final Fantasy game would be too big for a cartridge. But to elaborate on my previous post further, although it's already been pointed out somewhat: The in-game graphics of many N64 games (and the FFVI SGI demo spoken of here) are, when put up against that of PSX titles - especially the earlier discs - have sharper and more detailed graphics overall. PSX games are capable of producing high-quality (at least for the time) FMVs, but the N64 has long been looked upon as a more powerful machine when it comes down to creating general, consistant visuals.
