Yeah games have all sucked recently...
There has been nothing quite like FFVII, it's always going to be the best game ever. I suppose MGS came close to it but has been outclassed by the new games in its series - not including MGS2. As for Advent Children I suppose it doesn't quite live up to the name. Although the characters are done well (mostly) the biggest and best part of FFVII was the storyline. Squenix seemed to forget this when they made the film. -------------------- Scepticism, that dry rot of the intellect, had not left one entire idea in his mind. Me on the Starcraft. |

Quote $36 dollars!? Where do you buy your PSP games, Tiffany's? That's how much Best Buy wanted for it... what can I say? Other places aren't much cheaper, and this is Canada... Needless to say the price of a new UMD release is not worth worth it, especiially considering DVDs can hold more extras. So I only have the movie my PSP came with (Spiderman 2). So I managed to rent AC. Watched it last night. It was good. I was a little dissapointed that they didn't utilize the other characters more. It kind of felt like they were there for nostalgic reasons rather than being essential characters, but, it was Cloud's story. Movies can only focus on so much without being bogged down in character portrayals. I'm glad Cloud finally learned to appreciate those around him. I kept hoping he'd give those kids a big hug. That would have been sweet. Berret was annoying. Red XIII wasn't given the screen time he deserved. And why was Cait Sith even there? With more lines than the big cat even?! WHY?! Vincent was just sexy... oh that voice. And Bahamut was awesome even with the tiny mouth and blunt teeth. Yeah, I liked it. -------------------- Quote Do you think we're forever? |

Well,
Nanaki (sorry this annoys people but I've always called him that, long story) is a generally silent character so I've no complaints there. Cait Sith should have been the comic relief - Turks were a waste. This film really was Cloud's fight. Against himself or the old enemy of Sephiroth. I have no problems with it focusing on him. As I said previously - Cloud was portrayed perfectly. -------------------- Scepticism, that dry rot of the intellect, had not left one entire idea in his mind. Me on the Starcraft. |

I made a review for it on my board as well. Here are my thoughts.
Cloud Although he is a tad bit on the girly-looking side, no one can disagree with him having one kick butt addition to his outfit as well as the many swords he carries as weapons. I do miss the Buster Sword, but they made up for its absence very well with the others. Plus carrying that thing around now is kinda like carrying Zack's dead carcass. I also found the metaphor with the wolf quite interesting. Wolves are really dynamic animals in a literary sense. You can take it as a lone wolf or wolves that hunt in packs. Then again you can take it as Cloud became a loner, than found his pack? And lastly, I thought his voice was perfect. The first time I heard him speak there was just a shiver down my spine. It was exactly how I imagined it would be. Not incredibly low, but enigmatic still. Three cheers for Cloud! Tifa I saw snippets of her fight with Loz on the Japanese version. I think she kicks the most butt in the movie. That was probably the best fight scene aside from the Cloud and Sephiroth one. Other than that they hit the nail on the head with her character and the things she says to Cloud. Reno and Rude I love Reno, so I'll be the first to say this answer is completely biased and proud of it! Reno looked good, but I have to give it to Rude in the looking exactly as I pictured it arena. Together they were hilarious with all the subtle, quirky things. That was perfect. I loved them *huggles* Kadaj, Yazoo, and Loz Very sexy, but a little thrown off with the whole kiddish attitude. But that effectively showed their Sephirothness. I loved the 'Mother' thing. It was so cute, but kinda cynical and creepy. But it reminded me of Sephiroth which was important I think. I think the idea behind them could've been developed further and better, but nevertheless a good idea. I really liked these characters. Their childish innocence was there, esp. at the end with Kadaj, but they were Children of the Corn crazy. Sephiroth Naturally I wanted to scream over and over when he appeared. His voice was so...gaaaah. It was perfect. His fight scene was excellent and I LOVED the way it ended with his little one wing and no memory thing. Bravo for fricken Sephiroth. Aeris and Zack and scenes with him I really loved how they did these scenes. It was very nostalgic and beautiful. And the fact that Zack was there was even better. They effectively symbolized the problems within Cloud. The movie wouldn't have been enough without them. Vincent: His voice was a bit deeper than I thought it would be, but it worked very well. I liked the small, but important part he played. Plus, he's just too cool. Barret: Voice was definitely too Mr. T-ish, bad judgement call. I was disappointed, but was amused with the Spiky head comment. Cid: Loved him. The little bits we saw of him were true blue to the game. Yuffie: I'm indifferent Red: He looked good and the whole Cait Sith on top was neat. Rufus: He played a small role, but I really liked what he did with Kadaj and tossing Jenova off and such. His little witty comment was very becoming of him. Favorite Scenes/Snippets! -Naturally the Tifa and Loz fight -Loz crying and than later on claiming that he wasn't crying because he couldn't find mother lol -All of the Aeris and Zack scenes -Reno getting locked out -Reno stepping on Rude's glasses lol -The kid sticking his fingers up Reno's nose -Cloud and Sephiroth fight -Marlene hiding inside Vincent's cloak -Bahamut Sin fight! (Particularly at the end when everyone was giving Cloud boosts up) -Rufus and Kadaj falling from the building -Cloud holding Kadaj at the end -Aeris saying she wasn't Cloud's mother and her and Zack sending him back -Aeris walking away at the end, joined by Zack Storyline/Plot All in all, I think it could've been longer in order to perfect the storyline as well as incorporate the fight scenes. Kadaj, Yazoo, and Loz could've used some fine tuning in the area of background, but the idea was great. Also, the whole Geostigma and gathering the children was clear, but then kind of fell apart during the Bahamut Sin fight. Didn't really see the point besides to preoccupy Denzel. Cloud and his internal problems were played out beautifully. It was connected to the game and worked nice. I think the emphasis on Aeris could've been lost a bit just because it seemed nearly resolved in the game. I would've liked to see something a bit different and maybe incorporate Sephiroth more. The snippets of Sephiroth in Cloud's mind were great, but it just seemed odd when he appeared at the end and there were no psychological effects on Cloud. Other than that, I think Cloud was the best in depth character, naturally. The verdict? Characters: 5 out of 5 stars: nearly perfect to the game and beautifully played out Bad Guys: 4 out of 5 stars: Love the 3 guys, but their background was shady Music: 5 out of 5 stars: duh, it's Nobuo Uematsu...what more can you say? Fight Scenes: 5 out of 5 stars: hardcore choreograhy and stunning effects Plot: 3 out of 4 stars: needs some work in the middle OVERALL: 4 out of 5 stars: This is trying to be as unbiased as possible, but to tell you the truth...the characters just blew my mind. As a true FFVII fan you can't help but toss all flaws out the window in lieu of a dream of seeing these characters (almost) for real; talking and walking as we imagined. I would've gladly waited many more years to come for it. This post has been edited by RenosGirl18 on 9th May 2006 00:44 -------------------- "Shut up. You're making me sober..." -Reno *Ryoko* |

Finally watched it, and I feel like I wasted a good twenty dollar bill on a not so great movie.
First off, it's dubtitled. I can tell because I understand enough Japanese to be able to tell when someone is saying 'I'm home' and not 'Thanks'. I think I might understand it better if I got the region zero. Second off, the cameras. For the love of anything, too many really quick camera angle changes. Daveand I were both in agreement on this. Frame cuts are great for live action when you might have made a mistake, but it looked way silly in a computer generated movie. It made it seem sloppy and it really made it very confusing and uninteresting. I can't criticise the animation on terms of being poor as I can't do it myself, but there were things that really bothered me a lot about it. Hair, for one, seemed rubbery and incredibly heavy. It didn't flow in the wind like hair does. It looked like Cloud was sporting a head full of feathers, not hair. Also, some of the characters really moved in strange, mannequin sort of ways. It looked unnatural. I really think that The Spirits Within was animated much better.(Until they talked) I wasn't really impressed with costume designs and lack of blood. People were all like OMG DYING. No blood. But hey, everyone has something that they like. I just didn't like it. I'll give it another shot sometime when I find the region zero and have had more than two hours of sleep. -------------------- ..DDR..Maine.. ..Hikaroo-chan no Deviantart.. <Tiddles> And I love how people suggest "Why not call it my great name?????" when their name is clearly the worst thing ever. <Tiddles> "How about ; Mozilla Xplorer & Mozilla Xpress." <Tiddles> How about you die in a fire? |

I was indifferent towards the Tifa battle as I thought the piano rendition of the battle music just didn't fit - it was lack lustre, and anticlimatic. But then I could just be spoiled from some of the videos of the movie I found on Google. One was music video set to the tune of "End of All Hope" by Nightwish, and another was "Cloud Connected" by In Flames, both featured heavy snippets of the Tifa battle. Those are two kick-ass metal songs that fit perfectly with the action... so when I heard the real soundtrack I was dissapointed.
Actually, the whole soundtrack was kind of disappointing. It seemed, oh I don't know, out of place most of the time I would say. And sound-wise it lacked punch. Meh. -------------------- Quote Do you think we're forever? |

Meh. Sorry but I must disagree. The soundtrack was the best part of the film. The remixes were, average, but the new music they've included was wonderful. It shows that Squenix can make great additions to their games. I loved the movie, but some of the scenes were corny and dissapointing...
The Crying thing.... what? Are Loz, Kadaj, and Yazoo 4? Maybe, but they're bad guys... and thier not exactly humans, they're sephiroth clones, sure if they were humans, i would hve understood the crying thing, but seph clones? ![]() Dilly dally shilly shally, others have aleady said things about that, so i'm not gonna go on, The turks, HILLARIOUS! but, comparing them to the turks in the game, you think... When did HE lose it? ![]() Tseng... He died! Elena states in the game, "you got some guts doing my boss in like that!" And there he is... everytime i saw him i yelled at the TV. The motorcycle fight... so crappy... not the graphics... but NO ONE COULD DO THAT! Quote (Hikaroo @ 19th May 2006 00:42) Finally watched it, and I feel like I wasted a good twenty dollar bill on a not so great movie. I totally agree with this. I also agree with whoever said they had a plot for the first half hour, then lost it. I was really into it at first. A cleverly animated fight scene w/ Cloud, a good confrontation between Cloud and Rufus, the introduction of the villain, the setup for the rest of the movie... Then it kinda sucked, for reasons people have already listed. As much as I liked seeing the return of practically ALL the main character from FFVII, I feel like the cameo appearances almost distracted from the main plot. Oh well, fanservice I guess... As was Sephiroth, but that I just didn't like at all. I thought Kadaj was a fine villain on his own, and that the character had a lot more clout as Cloud's jealous "brother." When he turned into Sephiroth at the end, it was so lame I didn't even care to hear what I'm sure is a stupid explanation as to how he came back. Fight scenes were mildly entertaining. Plot was OK. Character development was good for Cloud and Tifa. Other than that, I really didn't care too much for it. |

The part I dislike the most is when the gang of FF VII just shows up at the end to take down Bahamut, like they're just sitting around waiting for the old PHS to ring so they can get down and dirty. Like none of them have a job? If you were responsible you wouldnt just leave your job to go to a fight, you have to stay there and do your damn job, that's what you're getting paid to do. You're telling me that everyone was either unemployed or off of work at the time? I bet Barret called in sick to the plumbing office and couldnt fix crap pipes just to go to that fight, that's not my kind of hero, leaving one job unfinished to do another. The sequel should be called Final Fantasy VII: Unemployment Check because hopefully their asses got fired.

Maybe they were all unemployed. After all, Midgar had been destroyed and all the money probably useless. There are some good images of random poor/unemployed people in that film... It might've been good communist propaganda 30 years ago. They all seem to be wearing classic "worker" caps and bowing their heads... Mind you, they all look exactly the same except for some clothes and the occasional beard.

Quote like they're just sitting around waiting for the old PHS to ring so they can get down and dirty ! Oh my i loved that. Even though many people tended to dislike it, i think we all knew that no matter what the game will always be better than the movie, which was given so i say don't be that harsh on AC. i personally loved it since the graphics were so bad in ffvii it was so nice to see the characters how they really should look. Hands down my favorite part was when the doors open to Aeris' church and her music starts to play. That brought back so many memories. I felt a tear coming on. Storyline was okay, they could have made it better for sure but still it was okay since i got to see the loves of my life. I liked Cloud's voice, it could have been a little more mysterious but it was good. And Vincent OH MY GOD. He looked amazing in it i have to say, everything just fit perfect with him. And scene where he's fighting bahamut and he flips around, his cape looks so f'ing awesome flying in the wind. Oh baby. I loved Yuffie's boots i want a pair badly now. And Denzel, i hated that stupid kid so much. His voice annoyed the hell out of me. Like when he says "We'll be waiting for you Cloud, you're going to come back right cloud?" it like shut the hell up and go get killed. ...sorry for my rage. I hated Loz, he was just an idiot and acted like a two year old. What remnant of the great Sephiroth acts like that? And Reno was by far utterly amazing and hilarious. I love him. In the end though when Aeris walks away with Zack i got kind of mad, since i want her and Cloud together, so that hurt my feelings a tad bit. Although it was a really good scene This post has been edited by tozanarkand on 23rd May 2006 20:34 |

Quote (ultimage @ 24th May 2006 17:18) I thought the Turks were poorly done. But I'm not a fan of comic relief anyway. I second that. They weren't even close to being comical relief in FF7. I think Square played the anime-style card a little too often during AC. Overall the CG was stunning, but the storyline wasn't all that great and the animation itself was a bit sketchy in some places (one scene that comes to mind is in Midgar; Rude (or Reno?) looks like he's running in place because his feet don't sync up with his movements.) Cool for fans, but nowhere near being good enough to be a stand-alone movie. ![]() -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

I absolutely loved this film! Regardless of what anyone says, the Turks were my favourite characters in the film. Especially Reno! He has cool hair. I wish they'd made Nanaki say more though. Although, his input was generally third party only. He never said many important things in the game. Tifa kicked ass in the film! I wish she had won against Loz, but he's a super powerful character so i guess it wasn't possible. Hmm...i wish that Kadaj didn't have to become Sephiroth, because he could probably have done a better job against Cloud than that long-haired moron any day( Sephiroth, in case you didn't realise ). Also, that bit where Cloud held him before he died made me cry. Poor Kadaj! Oh, and i loved the part where Marlene hid behind Vincent's cape! How adorable was that? He has cool eyes. Why did Rufus need the bandages? And i really want to know something, that's been troubling me since the game: Where the heck did Reno get those scars?

Since FFVII fans are good at explaining the plot when there is no in-story evidence for their explanations, I have a few questions.
First, GeoStigma and Jenova cells: I was guessing that the silver-hairs were people infused with Jenova cells, but Marlene said at the beginning that SOLDIERs were also infused with them. So what made the silver-hairs so special that only the obey Jenova? It also looks like random kids in the general populace are also infused with Jenova cells (the only adults with J-Cells are Cloud, Rufus, and the silver-hairs) because Kadaj told Rufus that the GeoStigma was a sort of marker for the Reunion, letting them know who had the J-Cells necessary for the Reunion. But then he told the children that geoStigma was the planet striking out against them for having the J-Cells (or else it was their own bodies rejecting it like a new kidney). I can see this as being tossed aside by saying that Kadaj was lying in order to begin brainwashing the kids, but this explanation actually makes sense. Later, Sephiroth told Cloud that GeoStigma was meant to "poison the well." It was a disease they would carry with them into the Lifestream to weaken the planet so Sephiroth (or Jenova) could strike out against the planet easier. But, Kadaj's gang were puppets of Sephiroth (or Jenova), so if that was the plan, why did Kadaj cure most of the kids that were with him? I know second-level cronies aren't always in the know, but that seems like kind of a major thing to keep from them, especially to have them turn around and have him cure some of the kids. Also, the silver-hairs, Cloud, and Rufus all had GeoStigma, which seems to be a majorly debilitating disease. Denzel was bed-ridden, Rufus was (mostly) confined to a wheelchair, and Cloud (who had it at the beginning stages, apparently) couldn't function completely. Yet, the silver-hairs were fine. And they had it BAD, too. Compare how long it took for the green stuff to float off of them vs. Cloud. So my question is: What the heck is GeoStigma? General questions/complaints: When a helicopter crashes, then you hear gunfire followed by blood-curdling screams followed by silence, it generally means they killed off the TURKS in the beginning. Since when are SOLDIERs infused with J-Cells? I thought it was a MAKO shower. Who is Denzel and where did he come from? Cloud looks to have been living on the road for months, yet he's been taking in and living with orphans? Were J-Cells distributed among the general populace as well as given to SOLDIERs? Is Cloud's in-game arsenal in his motorcycle or the result of different blade attachments? Because either would work by themselves. How did Cloud get his motorcycle back if it was sitting in the center of the home base of the silver-hairs? Jenova wasn't in the box. It leaked out across 20 miles of highway. Remember the dramatic scream Kadaj let out when he discovered that it was empty? Then there was enough Jenova Juice to turn Kadaj into Sephiroth? The heck? General nit-picking: Red XIII looks like a cross between a wolf and a cougar, roars like a lion, and gallops like a horse. Nice explanation by Marlene at the beginning. Wish the actual game actually contained those plot points without going back and forth between contradicting them and confirming them on the next disc. The wolf at the beginning and end was pointless. If they were going for symbolism, it generally works better when they insert symbols into the story instead of having a meaningless image endcap the movie. Between the random crying on the cliff and freaking out about the flowers in the church, Loz must have ADD. What was with all the crying? Given the way Loz was eyeballing the chest, materia myst be pretty rare for something you can buy on any street corner. Why would a disease melt a glove off your hand? Was there any "HP/MP Restored!" springs in FFVII? I don't recall any. It has been argued that Cloud's swords are far too unbalanced and impractical to use, so they're going to have him weild two. Two blades out of one hilt like that (Kadaj's sword) is the new "worst sword ever." With that huge mob of people, Reno was the first to think of trying to physically remove the kids from around the tower? I really don't remember Reno and Rude being the comedy relief secondary characters. Wouldn't Reeve have put Cait Sith to rest after he was done fighting with Cloud? Even if he wasn't going 150 stories in the air, even with Anime physics, there is no way that allez-oop thing would work. Bit of a physics problem with Kadaj passing Rufus when falling after the Jenova-in-a-box. Shin-Ra technology at its finest is a bunch of sticks of dynamite taped together? Tseng is at the end!? Oh well, Rufus also died in the game and the rest of the TURKS died in the beginning, so why not? -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

As for Loz and the other clones wanting Cloud' materia, you have to remember that materia grows in strength with use. Cloud's materia would be much stronger than any you can "buy on a street corner." Plus you can't buy summon materia anywhere, it is found in exotic locations.

Well in my opinion I think people pick this movie apart way too much (I've done it too *cough* I hate the English voice acting *cough*) But to be completly honest Square-Enix gave everyone what they wanted more FF7! People saw developments in the game industry and said "Hey wouldn't it be awesome if they redid FF7?" Now they are CC for PSP, BC for cell phone, DoC for the PS2, AC the DVD, Snowboarding for the cell phone, Online Novels, new stuff to complain about is basically what everyone here is saying. I have heard people say they're milking it too much, but it was because of FF7 fans (partly) that they brought life back to it! I loved the movie! Every last bit of it was great. The story made sense if you're an avid FF7 fan and to react well to the movie I guess you would have to be one.
If they redid 7 for the PS3 (Which is most likely not happening, the tech demo was just that, only a tech demo) people would find something to complain about. It's life I know, but I just thought I would express myself here. I enjoy these forums ![]() -------------------- (Comical Voice) "Say Cloud, why don't you change your party? Who shall we choose? How about......Yuffie and Cait Sith.....Just kidding guys! No one likes you!" |

and also i preffer it in japanese to english beacause they all sound weired and cait sith sounds like shes scottish. |

it was a awsome movie. i loved the characters they were great. the story was ok but, not perfect. Really loved the fight scenes (cloud and sephiroth great/ Tifa and loz also pretty good) i didn't mind the voices but i know some people did. As you could have guessed the music was great as usual. I have to agree with Hikaroo on the comment about the movie being dubtitled (the region 1 dvd anyway) and the english voice acting was pathetic, although I watched it in japanese first on a region 2 dvd that I ordered through a friend in Japan. The only really bad part that I can think of at the momment is when Loz said "that can't be forgiven" and the subtitles said "you meanie!" pathetic.
