So then guys, how do you get past the Zolom?

Personally I kill him. For I am not a chicken!

So time to sort it out. Are you a chicken or a man!

I use the chocobo to avoid it. By that point, I'm still usually at a really low level, so I'd get murdered brutally if i fought it.

If I was at a high enough level, though, I'd definitely fight it.

In my No Materia challenge, I actually managed to get past through him. All you have to do is make sure he heads to the very left and just keep charging forward. You can also try saving your game while you're in the marsh and when you load it up he'll be somewhere else.

Wrong. I killed him twice, in one inning. I made a run for it, got his attention. Killed him. I only had half of the strech to go. He fought me again, killed him. Then made it.

So tongue.gif You don't go back.

P.S killed him at level 14! Tactics my man. Tactics.

Got on a chocobo, and you don't even get much from the Zolom anyways, besides Beta which is hard to stand up to.

Although it does remind me of a friend who didn't know about the chocobo materia. He leveled to like the 30s so he could fight it with no problems, and was at the 70s by the Temple of the Ancients. And then his save file got corrupted. xD

I always end up killing him. I usually go to the shortest spot, run, fight and kill him once, and make it to the cave

My first playthrough, I used a chocobo to avoid him.

Any playthrough afterwards, normally I level up until like...level 40 or so before I even leave the Kalm area, so by the time I actually try to cross the fields, I can handle the Zolom with no difficulty whatsoever. Yeah, it takes ages to level up to that point, but I don't really play much, a few battles every day, save and continue this pattern for about two or three months. That way, I don't have to level again until I'm about to head over to City Of The Ancients, where I normally reach 80-85 using the same pattern.

My tactics basically consisted of Fight and Bolt 3/Ice 3/Bio/Limit Breaks, repeat.

I run past him via a Chocobo. Beta would be cool-as-hell to get that early, but it's almost impossible for me to stand up against it at that part of the game and I'm not one to do mad leveling just for that, so I bide my time and wait to strike again at the opportune time to get Beta and have more than one character with Enemy Skill materia in case of my character with the materia is blown away before the Zolom executes Beta. It kinda' sucks that other tha Beta, there's not much to gain from him.

Very Simple, make sure to get the elemental materia from the Mayor in Midgar when you brake into the Shinra tower. Equip Cloud most likely with Fire-Elemental materia combo on his armor. Place him in the back row. GIve someone Poison materia. Make sure you have your enemy skill materia equipped. Start the battle by poisoning him, then just kick the crap out of him until he stands up. If he knocks one of your guys out of the battle, just hope it isn't cloud. Once he gets to a certain HP he'll cast "Beta" Cloud should learn it (Let's hope you put the Enemy Skill materia on him) then just cast Beta back on him and your done.

If you can't do it before you go to Fort Condor, wait until you get to Junon and pick up the fire ring in the villa basement. Make your way through the Gold Saucer prison part, get the buggy and head back to the over-sized snake, from there getting Beta (Very useful on disk one) and beating the Midgar Zolom should be a piece o' cake!

But I -did- try to fight him; I just got pwned.

Ran past it with a chocobo.
Lateron came back to get beta.

That's about it.

My first time i just fought it.(didn't know about the chocobo then)
It killed Cloud and Barret and then swept Tifa out of the battle.
Basicly it would have won very easly.

i killed the stupid snake worse than what you ppls saw in the mountain where branch was through the zolem. by my sheer dumb luck i had gotten blade beam right outside of kalm. i had bought hypers in kalm so my limit easily rose. only one person was knocked outside of the battle and that was my healer named aeris and my guys were in yellow when the were done

I usually split across when he's bouncing around the left part of the marsh, even if I have the Elemental materia. Sometimes I just don't feel up to wasting money on a chocobo lure, especially since I don't do breeding on every playthrough to 'prove' anything to myself. The ol' Zolom's not so hard to catch off-guard if you run at the right time.

a good thing to do is continue casting the enmy skill laser and demi on it. keep healing and casting demi until it casts Beta.

Usually I just hop on a Chocobo and avoid him, seeing how is im usually still at a rather low level.

But, if I take the time to level up quite a bit, or I'm cheating (*snicker*) I have/would kill(ed) him.

I went for the kill. It made me sweat blood, but I managed to kill him. (I was LVL 21, I guess. Can't remember accurately.)

Most of the time, I kill, gotta have Beta. wink.gif

Other than that, I usually don't even bother spending time or Gil on chocobos, I just go for it. I can make it 30-50% of the time, so long as I time it right.

If you dont buy the chocobo lure then you can't buy it again. I think you can dig it up in the Bone Village but I'm not sure.

First time I played the game I didn't have enough money to buy the materia so I just legged it past the Zolom. Then regretted it massivly when I couldn't breed chocobos. Now it's all about Beta so I fight him.

If you have the right levels you can get easy EXP at the start of the game here. Just tape circle down and stand in the marshland. The amount of times I've died doing this... Check up on it regularly to heal.

Level up and try to learn Beta it is well worth it. The first time you fight Jenova on the Cargo ship I used beta and killed it in one hit, but I suppose I was level 50 by then.
