What stat do you value the most or like the most on RPGs? Me, I like STR the most but a good combination of STR and AGL is my favourite. I could care less about DEF if I'm fast enough to strike first and strong enough to OHKO enemies.

DEF. (Or whatever stat I have to raise to not take damage. Like RDM, or MBlock, and so on.) You can become ludicrously invincible in some games. (SO:TtEoT comes to mind. Nothing like taking 0 damage from the optional bosses' attacks.

Yes, good point. I was thinking strictly turn-based RPGs for some reason. But in higher difficulties in Star Ocean, you can't null the optional's attack.

Dexterity/Agility/Speed. Because it's downright hillarious to see developers interchanging them despite the fact they have very different meanings.
It's great knowing my character's ability to dodge is affected by his dexterity. Or that my character's agility has an impact on how fast he can escape from battle. Makes a lot of sense. I wonder sometimes how the dev teams out there would react if they ever picked up a dictionary and realized that "agility" doesn't mean "speed," or that "dexterity" has nothing to do with how well you can aim a bow. ![]() Runner up? Vigor used in defense calculations. Yeah. Does the word vigorous mean anything to anyone? That's right: it's how strong of body you are! Wait, is that right...? ![]() -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

Yeah, it gets annoying figuring out which does what in different games. Good thing to know 'Attack' and 'Defence' aren't too hard to mix upl. But you never know..

Magic and Spirit are attributes that I personally like the best. I love mysticism and magic is one of the coolest assests in RPGs in my opinion 'cause one thing that can topple a seemingly unstoppable powerhouse with loads of strength and defense is an all-powerful mage with the right spells to destroy the competition, yet when the average mage is on the receiving end of a deadly melee attack, kiss bye-bye to the magic-user, so it's a double-edged sword. For me, it's Magic and Spirit all the way.

I value Strength over Defence, Agility over Evade, and in mages, Intelligence over Spirit.
Yeah, I'm pretty much into swift attackers, overall I think I value Agility over Strength in ATB controlled games. Defence will only really become a factor if the enemy can kill me in two or three hits... As for Luck, it depends on the game. In FFX Luck was key to beating the most powerful bosses as it further raised Evade, Critical Hit rate, Status Evade, and Item drop rate. -------------------- The Arcana are the means by which ALL is revealed. |

Critical hit rate didn't matter in FFX as your guys will eventually always do 99,999 damage. But yeah, if there is an Evasion stat in RPGs, which is rare, I usually like it because dodging attacks can be a life-saver.

I like Attack/Strength! I don't really have a strategy in RPGs (I rely on luck) but there's something about having a lot of attack power that makes me feel big! I always make sure I get the biggest and best weapons for all my characters.
In a close second is Spirit 'cause magic is cool. ![]() -------------------- 'Bastards, we may be, but clever are we.' Thorn, FFIX |

Speed and Dexterity.
One of my all time favorite RPGs is Wizardry 6 and two of the hardest job classes to get are samurai and ninja. In the game the number of hits in one round is based on Speed and your natural Armor Class is based on Dexterity. With nothing equiped, your AC is 10 and the number will decrease when you equip stuff on your head, body, ect... Everybody knows that samurai and ninja are based mainly on the 2 attributes but by the time I reached quests end, my ninja's AC level was -52. speed. In most pvp based rpg games, it's hard to kill another characcter without speed.
MOVING SPD: If you don't have good moving speed you can't do shit when enemies running ![]() Plus if you are ranged character attacking combt character with tons of speed, you might be able to attack, run, attack, run and repeat. ATTACK SPD: attack speed in a way "multiplies" with your attack and making it stronger CASTING SPD: if you take forever to cast something with mages, you'll die :3 or get interfered. -------------------- I will be there... |

Meh...console RPG's I have to go with Speed and Defense. Speed usually determines what order you attack in, how many attacks you can chain and whatnot. Defense due to obvious reasons. I like to stay alive thanks!
For pen and paper adventures I focus on Charisma, Dexterity and Constitution, using mostly Rogue characters. Charisma raises my saves on thief abilities, and Dexterity is a must have for backstab multipliers. Constitution because well, who wants a fragile thief? My playing style demands that I have a high Constitution to make up for my massive risk taking and solo missions. -------------------- This is a webcomic and gaming blog where I rant about nonsense. Strength. Magic is like a dodgey knee..... it may work fine for you 99% of the time, but when you really need it, it'll let you down. Go with strength and you'll never be disappointed.

It depends on the game. In FFVI, my favorite stat is Magic because magic is much more powerful than physical attacks towards the end. In Secret of Mana there are about 20 stats, but practically the only things influencing the damage you deal and take is which weapon you're wielding, which 3 pieces of armor you're wearing, and which levels your elementals are at, so all I care about are HP and MP. In FFX, Agility proved to be the ultimate stat if you've ever fought Nemesis (in the US version anyway). In FFI, my favorite was whichever one influenced the number of hits you dealt - I think it was Speed.

Speed. Speed is the most important stat in my opinion because your character gets more turns and you can heal up much faster. But meh, all stats have ups and downs.

It really is game dependent. In most games, it just happens to be brute strength. In others, such as Legend of Dragoon and FFX, it's speed. -CSM

Vigor, Agility or Stamina, because I never know what they mean
![]() Honestly though, Speed ranks pretty high. I know I gave Crono all my speed tabs on CT, and he simply ran circles around the enemies.
