I dont like summons at all. They're a waste of time because you cant skip through them, and it always bugged me and made me angry because I have no patience whatsoever. They're strong when you first get them but after a few hours of playing, your characters level faster than materia which is absolutely idiotic. Why use any summons or any spells late in the game when your slash all deals 9999 damage to everything on the screen? They should have rethought that, no RPG should ever have a normal attack cause max damage. At least there was some benefit in using Eden in FF8, because that thing did more damage than the standard 9999hp.

Quote (C_Strife @ 13th May 2006 07:44) How good is the Leviethian Materia? It is the only way to add the water element to your weapon or armor, which is probably more valuable than summoning him in battle. Other than that, Leviathan is only okay at best. -------------------- I know I've been Final Fantasy XII too long - just the other day I referred to a region with no cell service as a Jagd! |

Yeah it's all about the element. Which actually makes him unique so it's worthwhile to have say, if you want to have a character that absorbs every element.

I agree with Tito somewhat. Eventually you stop using the summons because they are pointless. The first time around they work well as long as they are ones you inevitably run into (Shiva, Ifrit etc.)
The only summon worth using for me power wise is KoTR, ZERO Bahamut+Quadra Magic, and Hades plus Added Effect (but I usually just use him for the status ailments added to your weapons and for Master Tonberries) Once I get up to higher levels and get 2x cut and slash all, its pretty much physical battles. -------------------- "Shut up. If it does I've REALLY missed something in this game... But yeah the summons are worthless really. KotR is boring/tedious/fun-sapping. The only time I used an Elemental with a summon was very near the start why I put Choco/Mog with it to hurt the flyers outside Junon slightly more. It wasn't worth it. -------------------- Scepticism, that dry rot of the intellect, had not left one entire idea in his mind. Me on the Starcraft. |

I do like to use summons as they take away quite a few HP when you are at the start of the game. They are also useful if you need to beat the weapons etc.

Indeed. It's very annoying and long though. I just use it to kick the crap out of the last Jenova form so I don't have to scuff my shoes before Sephiroth. Takes her out in one go. Also on Ultima Weapon.

I never used it, just got it so I could get the master materia.. Meh not worth it in my opinion, only worth getting it if you're going for the master materia or just a perfect game run through.

I never understood how ''good'' leviathan realy was.
It was the only summon with water element as stated before me. Personal I used it once just to get a look of it. -------------------- It takes 2 people and a weapon to commit a murder Yesterday is history, Tomorrow is mystery, today is a gift, thats why we call it the present. |

It's not just the only summon, it's the only water elemental materia in the game. I've never had much of a challenge against anything that uses water elemental... The only time I've used this is when fighting Jenova in the Forgotten City so I'd absorb her Aqualung. I would've used the Water Ring accessory but I like sprint shoes oh so much!

I screwed Jenova over bad with the Water Ring and the Reflect Ring. I like summons because I get to watch them

Unless the summon is KotR-caliber, which it won't be, it's mostly good for early Elemental+ pairings in the armor. I used to be delighted at using summons, but I find they get used absolutely zero times nowadays, sans Odin and Typhoon. Elemental MP-drainers just can't bolster the offense that the alternatives can, and they're a wasted cut to a character's HP. Everyone is better off using an Enemy Skill materia, if you ask me.

Leviathan, except if your at the start of the game ( Tiny Bronco ... ), doesn't really do good damage, like others said, it's all about the element.

It's good to mediocre depending on what part of the game you're on.
Leviathan accompanies the lower-level elemental summons, ie. Titan, Choco/Mog, Shiva, Ifrit, Ramuh, but is only as good as Ramuh, but the different element. Just go to Bone Village and get the Kjata Summon. Multi-elemental has never been more evasive.
