so the other day i had to go pick up a new (used) copy of FF VII the other day (since i had lost disc 3 in one of my many moves)and had to pay over $50 (cdn) for it, which isnt that bad considering how much i play it....
but the last copy i bought (i got robbed a few years back and stole my PS2, XBOX, and all my games) was only like $30....

im just curious if anyone had noticed a sharp price increase in the last while?

Well for a while it was available for $20 as a greatest hits which is when I bought my copy ( I played my brother's when I played it) but they're not releasing it anymore is what I heard so the game has gone up in value I am speculating.

Yeah I have noticed an increase in value.

I can remember a few years ago (like 2? at the most 4?), it was £12 first hand, now it's doubled to £24 second hand..

FFVII isn't a rare game. It's very common, and shouldn't be over $20, $30 at the most.

That doesn't mean that it's any rarer a game, it just means that you paid too much for it, when you could easily go to a Gamestop or some other used games store and gotten it there for under $20. FFVII is a crazily common game, not even counting the Greatest Hits version. Of course, if you have that kind of money to spend around, then it wouldn't really matter anyway.

Final Fantasy 8 is going for a decent amount too, and Xenogears (best rpg of all time) is going high as well. People are hiking up the ff7 prices obviously to cash in on how popular it is right now, and people are going to be paying those overblown and exaggerated prices. It makes sense really, if Zelda games were piles of arse and no newer ones came out, you'd be able to fetch the gold cartridges on ebay for 5 bucks a pop, and I wouldnt wager a guess at how much those babies are going for now. Probably still 5 bucks.. maybe I dont know what Im talking about.

actually if you do a simple search on google and just type in final fantasy 7 price like i just did you find at several different sites that the price is extremely high

and im sure if you go into any game store now all of the prices will be higher than they were several weeks ago

Edit
oh and i did search around my city before spending the $50 as well that was the best price i could find here

Archetype is completely right. I paid £20 (roughly $35) for my new copy. It's becoming much rarer for sure. Unless you buy it second-hand from someone who doesn't quite know how much it's worth, then this game is now officially an antique!

Considering the release of a series of spin-off games, the movie and game/movie related junk like toys, bust models, posters and whatnot, it doesn't surprise me that the game's price has taken a leap. I don't think it has anything to do with going off the market or not being released anymore, I still see it every time I go into any store that sells games.

It's not really becoming rarer, just that because there's an increased market for the game once again, the price has gone up. Once the FF7 hype settles down, the prices will go back to normal.

I'm just glad I kept my original copy from '97.
...Though I don't have the original cd case anymore, just the pamphlet and actual cds, and they're all scratched up to hell and back. Damn.

It's a combination of both, but yeah I agree that with AC out the price has increased.

But you can't say that as the game becomes rarer the price will remain the same. FFVII is unique in a lot of ways. It will be the only game (probaby) which value increases in 10-15 years time.

I just checked EBgames for the price and it certainly has spiked.
I remember not to long ago it was $15 and now it's $30(pre-owned).

looksy

It must be because of the spin-offs. 8 is still $12 and tactics is $13.

I don't think its rare, if you're talking about the playstation version. the PC version is rare though; EB doesn't carry it. I had to get mine online for, like, $50, and that was before this whole price change thing.

Woah, i just looked at EB's FF7 page and it currently back-ordered!

Actuallly, I've had a friend report to me recently that you can't find FFVII as easily. He says there are no copies of it at any local game retailers in his area and he's seen it online for $50. Might it be possible that it's losing its commonality?

The price hike (Shinra style tongue.gif) seems to include all - brilliant - rpgs of days long passed.

Legend of Dragoon

Here we see that this game (about £30 when it was first on the shelves) has taken a leaf out of Palmer's book. I suppose it's not just because of AC then - also because these games are becoming rarer.

Picked up a copy in March for a tenner no probs... All because I found my original copy and had to play it; - but Disk 1 was stuffed mad.gif

I wonder how many unplayable partial copies of the game are languishing around in people's collections?? Someone should set up a global exchange...

Oh well. I guess it was pretty unsurprising, and you can't really blame people for taking an opportunity. Meh. happy.gif It still varies from area to area though, what might be crazy common somewhere may be rare in the next.

still, guess I better hold on to my copy then....
