Those jackasses are so inaccurate that I almost cringe to open my book now.

Their snowboarding info is wrong. Their final attack materia info had me stuck for months. (Obtained in Battle Arena) Rumah is spelled "Ranch". Death Dealer is not there but Death Claw is twice and has Dealer's stats.

What the hell?!
Did they feel they didn't need an Editor after page 3?
Nah...They where like everyone else and rushed to release thier book.

And I won't even get started on FF9's book. Stupid $15 book of advertising for playonline. I took that thing STRAIT back to Wal-Mart and told them their book was crap and demanded a refund.

Sigh... I wish someone compident would take them under.

The FF8 book was ok though.

Stupid jackholes...

It's unfortunate that the guides have errors, and they probably could put a bit more effort into them, sure. But, let's think of it like this -

1. They're probably writing them based on early translations. How do you think they could get them ready for the same launch as the game unless they're working from beta?
2. It gives CoN a reason to be.
3. When you acknowledge the difference between "strait" and "straight" you can comment on poor grammar and spelling in guides.

I don't need to comment on the pot/kettle/black errors on your part, thanks to Josh. biggrin.gif

I don't like the strategy guides, either. Most of the time, you can find far superior information on gamefaqs. The Castlevania: Symphony of the Night guide is a joke. I could write a better guide off the top of my head, and it's been months since I played the game. They miss secrets, or deliberately leave things out to "leave some challenge for the player" (I really hate it when guides do that--if I didn't want every single secret explained to, I wouldn't have bought the guide).

I'm not gonna try to sift through the meaning of that for two reasons:

1) It's been picked apart by the mods, Hamedo and MM already.

2) I never used Brady.

But you know a better place to find info, and it's totally free?

My friend bought the FFX guide and when I looked at it, there was only general information.

You know strategies that aren't worth reading, item drops, enemy stats, sub quests, well the usual crap. I thought that I would never do like him and simply print something from gamefaqs if I wanted it on paper.

Players are best suited to create guides, no one can deny this.

Well, looks like the FFVII guide is pretty awful... At least you learned a lesson: Never buy/use official guides.

Sorry but can I just say...

I TOTALLY agree with you on the FFIX guide. It was a shocker.

Ok...I'm not going to lie.
I dropped out and cheated through most of my spelling tests.
A move I'm finding to regret...

What's their excuse?

Written guides have errors. It's not really a surprise.

And besides, there's always CoN's guides.

Wow, I totally believe you did cheat on all of those spelling tests. I didn't realize that cheating on those tests was so commonplace.

And yeah, Bradygames guides have mistakes. I own exactly two of them, and one of them has several errors that I've noticed over the years, and the other one (which I bought only a few months ago) deliberately withholds information regarding one of the game's hidden dungeons. Lame. It's probably best to stick online for good game guides, but if there's a game you *really* enjoy enough you might get one of those guides for bedtime reading or something. Hell if I know.

I'm sorry I had to do this one, it's spelled common, don't worry though I've been ripped on before. But that was way back in 2003 when I was a very naive lad.

Edit
Don't waste your time with any strategy guides, there are many sites like CoN out there that dedicate their time to making an awsome guide

Haha it's hard not to make a good guide on FFVIII because there's so little game there in the first place. But yeah I bought that one and thought it was quite good. Then stuck the front cover on my wall below Shaq O'Neil and above my Reservoir Dogs poster - another classic piece of usless info from sweetdude.

I agree with the translation statement. Squaresoft and Brady have their own translations. Translating Japanese phoenetically is supposed to be very dificult (not that I have done it. . .) Each translator will see it differently. Example, Gysahl greens (game) Gizzard greens (guide) with the direct translation back they are probably both right.
NOTE- Squaresoft probably does have better translators. . . .

By the way, I seriously doubt that they check guides for spelling, grammar, and sometimes even textual errors.

All the players' guides I've owned have had various stupid errors in those ways. The meaning gets across, and that's what they're going for. They're not even going for quality here, because if a player wants a guidebook, that player likely won't care that it misspelled "Aeirs" and "WAEOPN" and misnamed the monster "Zolom Midgar" (or even "Terrato" (gasp!)) and confused several palette swaps.

Come to CoN instead. If it's not here, try RPGClassics.com. If it isn't there either, then try GameFAQs.

There are very few sidequests and loads of pointless areas (such as Dollet). FFVIII is tiny in comparison with FFVII. The cards are all the game has going for it (just like blitzball in FFX).

Oh wait level 100 easily at the start is fun too.
