I've only seen the HP<->MP materia used once by anyone else.

Level 7 Tifa VS Emerald Weapon

I use this materia all the time to level up. I tape down the "up" and "cirlce" button on my turbo pad then automatically run against a cliff beside the sea in Mideel. My materia set up looks like this.

Cloud
HP<->MP, (any materia to master), EXP Plus - on Apocolypse
Sneak Attack (has to be mastered) junctioned with Ultima, (any amount of materia to be mastered)

What happens is Cloud runs against to cliff and automatically gets into battles. Then Sneak Attack kicks in with Ultima. The HP<->MP means I've got enough MP to last for a long time. Easy leveling up.

Has anyone else found any use for this?

That's quite clever. I've heard of the turbo pad being used for a lot of neat things, however I don't own one. But no, I've never used the stupid switching materia unless I wanted to have a bit of fun and live on the edge. But once I get too close thats enough for me. smile.gif

I never really did anything in particular with HP<-->MP materia. I used it only to master it and then set it back in that pile of materia I have....

Same here.

I originally thought I remembered there being a spell which relied on your MP for damage, but I must've gotten mixed up with ????, which uses HP actually. Meh. I suppose you could cast reflect on your party and hit your three guys with Pandora's Box for 3 hits to any boss repeatedly; the high MP cost wouldn't be much of an issue then.

I never saw a point to this materia. The game was easy enough as it is. If it had ultimate spells/summons which took up 500+ MP per casting instead of 100-150, there might've been more of a use to it.

First time I used it, I didn't know what it did, and I didn't notice Clouds HP until I had entered a fight in the Gelinka. That was the first time Cloud was ever KIA'd. sad.gif

I think the idea is to use it with the Shield magic - which uses 180 MP - to protect your low HP. Then you have an invincible character who can cast spells endlessly. I never found that materia to be really useful, though.

The only use I found so far was to gain Limits in a flash. Having your max HP greatly reduced, it takes no time to reach the end of the limit bar.

[B] i'm the canadien final fantasy master, i have a way for the <mp-hp> switch materia too work really well. this may sound extremely dumb, but put the <mp-hp> switch on red XIII or cid ( assuming automaticly you have there most powerful weapons for both cid and red XIII). both of there ultimate weapons rely on there amount of mp out of max mp. use hard core multi-hitting limit breaks like; stardust ray and cid's highwind/ big brawl. if correct there multi-hitting hits which normally do 1400- 2500 should do 6000- about 9999damage, red XIII's stardust ray hit about 14 times and the highwind limit hits a lot of times ( i didnt count), so you guy's do the math. PS: this is how i beat the emerald weapon, tho ruby weapon was a little different. well good luck with sum of my tips

I just let it sit with all the other Materia that aren't Counter, Mime, or the other broken late-game Materia. I'm too lazy to use it with those MP-Ultimate-Weapon combos, although my friend thought of that idea once.

I was going to come back and put that as well.

I tend to use the same people throughout the whole game and the others end up kinda wussy by the end. HP<-->MP materia does work well to catch up on limit breaks

I heard you could use it for the 7777hp by using bolt2 (22mp) on 999mp then switching it so you have xx77hp. This is UNTRUE because it just... doesn't work, the mp doesn't switch.

The materia is rather usless.

First off, If you have W-item then you should never have a problem with HP or MP thanks to the duplication glitch and your unlimited supply of Megalixers.

Gimme Elixer...ok smile.gif

EDIT: Wow! I saw the tifa Video and that was bad ass but I have a few questions.

How did Tifa get to that area in the game without a cheat device on L7 with a butt load of mastered materia? Weapon hit her and only did 10HP...Anyone can beat weapon with with a cheat device.

Nice song BTW.
What's the name and band?

Keep her dead in the party for the entire game. No cheating - unless that includes KotR/Final Attack, which I think is...

Ok that explains that but how do you explain the 10 HP hit?

Using a Gameshark I started a New Game into the debug room and went left to the world map. I used the all Items code to max his stats with sources and then used the battle mod to confront Emerald and was still being hit with 100+ damage

EDIT: I can prove that it's bogus. Tifa was on level seven and gained 50,000 EXP and the screen was rushed with button bashing. Even with button bashing your levels are gained automatically BEFOR the screen ends. I also find it hard to believe that cloud was dead the ENTIRE game without gaining any levels.

I don't really care if the video is "bogus". I was just using it as an example of HP<->MP.

Don't get me wrong, I didn't even like the video - KotR and Final Attack are boring.

Maybe you can get 7777 MP and all your attacks are random magic? blink.gif
Or gives the monster MP? lol

Haha that's a good idea actually, it might work! I'll try today. It'd be quite cool if it did just blast 64 different magics at the enemy, including all the favourites; Reno's Pyramid, Moon Wars, Super Nova, Shady Breath, Sleep Scales, Silk... the list is endless.
