Ok; we've all suffered, we've all heard various things...
Can we now just put this to rest once and for all in one single thread? I have 5 at the moment and before tonight, I'm going to get 12, 35, however many it takes. If anyone has anything they'd like to share on the subject - post it. -------------------- Scepticism, that dry rot of the intellect, had not left one entire idea in his mind. Me on the Starcraft. |

Is there really anypoint in spending time hunting for little 'toys' which have no use what so ever, so i can't see the point. You can view them in your 300,000 gil villa but still. If you can prove to me that i or others should start to collect them, then post them here.

1/35 doesn't mean one out of thirty-five
it means its a figurine that is 1/35 the size of a real soldier, like a G.I Joe. They are just little collectibles, they serve no purpose but being presented in the villa This post has been edited by Cloud_Strife510 on 13th May 2006 21:04 -------------------- "Have you ever seen a baby do that before?" |

I still don't have a clear enough reason to collect these little soldiers. I would becasue i am too weak to kill Emerald but i don't know why i should.

I always knew myself that 1/35 was the scale. The point is, I've heard people say that you need 35 to make the complete soldier. I'm getting them just to see for sure whether these are rumours or not. Believe me, I'm convinced that they're just ornaments, but I want to try anyway.

This has already been put to rest numerous times. 1/35 IS the scale, and having 35 to make a full soldier IS a rumor. Verified facts, from multiple sources, that should be well-known at this point.

And which sources are these?
Nearly every version differs. When there are disagreements like this I like to do my own work to make my own mind up, rather than accept anyone else's. Call me stubborn but I don't care. If you need direct proof, just dump the item index. Nothing unusual, save for a few items others have already found, are in there.
Not enough? Use a game shark to change the character ID of your party members. Anything new? Nope. Still not enough? Then ask yourself this: FF7 has been picked apart and hacked by people ever since it came out MANY years ago. Why, praytell, has this elusive Soldier never been found? Edit: For that matter, just give yourself 35 1/35th scale soldiers with a gameshark. You're not the first one to do it, and certainly not the last. Nothing happens. "How many forum members does it take to screw in a light bulb?" <It's like that. XD
I used to try and collect them too. Now that I think about it, it's a bit silly of an item to have... Haha that's quite funny. The only proof I want Silverlance, is my own. And why do you care so much if I'm wasting my time? I've heard that if you collect 12 at the Gold Saucer then go back to Junon (having not picked up the one there) somebody says something to you... Bit sketchy but I'll try. -------------------- Scepticism, that dry rot of the intellect, had not left one entire idea in his mind. Me on the Starcraft. |

Well, if I was a CoN, FF7, and/or gaming newbie reading through this thread, I know that Silverlance's post would be enough to convince me to not bother with the effort. Perhaps it'll serve that purpose for others, but I guess it won't satisfy everyone. To each his own... -------------------- |

Silverlance have you ever done those things you mentioned?

Quote (sweetdude @ 14th May 2006 04:41) Silverlance have you ever done those things you mentioned? I wouldn't post them otherwise. There exist a few utilities to mess with game data, and making use of a hex editor isn't exactly difficult either. In fact, if you don't want to go that far, it doesn't take very long to find an item mod to either change the index of any given item in your inventory (or the flags for all event items) or change the amount of 1/35th scale soldiers in your inventory. As for text? Same story as with the inventory. http://www.ficedula.co.uk/ is a good place to start. If you check around in my posting history, you'll find a number of posts tearing apart FF7, including enemy AI, chocobo-related scripting, and so forth. I've quite a lot of experience with FF7 and ROM hacking (or ISO hacking, I guess, in this case.) And if my word isn't enough for you, then you might as well give Ficedula's programs a whirl and see for yourself. Edit: Quote And why do you care so much if I'm wasting my time? Actually, I don't care just what you do with your own time. ![]() I think we'd all go mad if every newbie who came to CoN would post a thread suggesting there might be a way to revive Aeris, or that you could get Palmer on your team if you played the Gold Saucer fortune telling machine and got JUST the right fortune, or whatever. ![]() This post has been edited by Silverlance on 14th May 2006 10:03 -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

Haha Silverlance I hear you loud and clear. I'm just an annoying, stubborn person (playing the PS1 version) so I still have to do these things myself. Also I've never had over 2 of these little toys so it's for personal gratification to get them. How exactly do you get more Toy Soldiers in-game? I never found out how to do that. (I never really had any interest in them, so...) -------------------- |

Ok I've got 12 and can't seem to get any more. For the record, if anyone's in any doubt, they're completely useless aside from being ornaments.
The disc-switching trick: On the Playstation you can change discs (somewhere that isn't loading e.g the world map) and the game still works. The only difference is that the cinematic cut-scenes are different. Like when you see the gold saucer for the first time, I actually saw Cloud falling into the lifestream in his wheelchair - still with the gold saucer music which was really funny. Try it. -------------------- Scepticism, that dry rot of the intellect, had not left one entire idea in his mind. Me on the Starcraft. |

Thanks, it's news to me. ![]() It's a shame the game's useless items are, well, useless. The Super Sweeper, tissues, Golden Masamune, Authograph, and the 1/35th scale soldiers, should've had SOME use, however minor. On the other hand, red herrings serve to maintain interest and to spark rumors. It keeps the game interesting. It would've kept the game even more interesting if they weren't all stuck in the same place, but rather scattered throughout the game, though. ![]() -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

True, but the game still keeps coming back with more to offer. Like the Barret Date, until a few months ago i''d never heard of it! And the Counter-Mime; someone will beat that time (without Slots).

They are just items that you collect. Ni big deal. I'm sure people here have collected items in real life. It's really no different. Its like getting Beatrix's sword Save the King in IX, serves no use but you should still try to get it at least.
