I just stumbled on this little gem.

Warning Forever (First one on the page.)

A most excellent shooting game indeed! The concept is simple: Blow Stuff Up ™! Like most shooters, "Stuff" means "Stuff with a vast array of deadly weapons that tries to kill you." In this case it's not a bunch of small enemies trying to shoot you down, but boss after boss after boss.

There's a catch though.

Bosses not only become bigger and harder, but they adapt to your playing style. By stage 10, you're facing up against something that knows your strategy and starts to use it against you. Trying to gun it down from the side? Expect the boss to start turning and trying to ram you against the edge of the screen. Head-on attack? You're gonna find yourself dodging a multitude of particle beams centered right on you.

Your weapon? A vulcan cannon, nothing too fancy. But there's a twist; you can activate a second mode. In this mode, when not shooting, your cannon aims towards the center of the screen and the width broadens or narrows as you move near/away from the center. This means that you can rotate your guns to take out the enemy's parts at an angle instead of always having to maneuvre under it. Sweet. smile.gif

Besides, how can you say no to oldschool vector graphics? Sexy, sexy vector graphics...

This game is incredible. Really addicting, and forces you to use diffderent strats instead of relying on the same ones. I enjoy it a lot.

Just for fun, I'm gonna post my high score just to see how I compare. After three attempts, my final score is: 6151400 @ level 12 w/ 5 deaths.

Idk how good or bad that is, but that's what I got. I was capitalizing on the chain reaction points. It wasn't uncommon for me to have 65 chain reactions in a single battle. I am an absolute monster with that aiming function. I wish you could destroy the core without destroying everything else first, but I don't think you can.

I can easily get to level 14, but that's where I start having a hard time.

A few pointers...

- Don't spread out your fire. This means each part gets less hits, so they blow up slower.

- Yes, you can blow the core up without blowing everything else. However, the more junk you blow up, the less defense it has.

- Aim for the joints! They have a little more defense when there's a lot of junk on them but they take down a LOT of parts when they blow up.

- Use cheap strategies at first. For instance, aim at it from behind. The next few stages will be easier since it will concentrate on its back defense and leave itself open in the front. Yoink!

- For the later stages, never let yourself get caught in its arms. It will try to turn or accelerate and crush you against the screen. Happens a lot. blink.gif

- You can get some practice through the option menu; go to custom game mode and you'll be able to set it so you can die as often as you want. Good way to probe the AI for weaknesses.

- Don't play this while drunk. Seriously, my friend was all, "WOAAAAH!" and I was all, "DUUUUDE!" and we were like, "MAAAAN!" But we also sucked. We later chased a cat down the street around 1-2 am yelling at it to the top of our lungs, so it's not a good idea to play this game drunk.

Yea I go right for the joints to capitalize on the chain reactions. I blew up all of level 10 in no time just by hitting the hit spots. And my beam is always as focused as possible.

I tend to stay in the bottom left corner or right between the arms for a few seconds to destroy the entire front. When it starts spinning out of control and accelerating, I get at it from behind.

I consider myself to be decent at the game, but I get caught by unavoidable attacks. For example, at one point, there were 10 of those pink beam thingies shooting, countless blue cannonballs and needles, and even some purple "smash". Unblockable. Every space was covered. And that was right at the start. Forgot what level. I'll take a picture next tmie for sure. biggrin.gif

It can get pretty hectic at times. tongue.gif I died in one of the earlier levels because there was a beam behind me and a series of small blue shots forcing me back into it. Grah...

The other modes of play are pretty cool. The default mode is simple enough: you lose when the time runs out. Beating a boss gives you more time, dying takes away time. But there are unlimited time modes with limited lives, where you gain lives each 100 parts. This introduces a TOTALLY different strategy because blowing up joints only counts as 1 part. Oops. BUT you have no time to worry about so you can get the situation under control and pick away at each part for more lives.

Fun fun!

So I tried an infinite mode, more or less, to see the later stages and how to manage them (999 time, infinite lives, etc.). It is ridiculous. On level 19, there was a boss called "the infinity". I'm not sure if the names change, but I'm quite sure they do with each attempt. Anyways, his defense was so high it was off the chart. And he just shot sick amounts of everything and covered the entire screen so there was no chance to dodge it. Died twice on him.

...and then I died 5 times on "The infinity with dodeca smash". Freaking huge purple gas stuff can't be dodged at close range. laugh.gif

I LOVE the game, don't know when I'll play it a second time, but I ran out of time on stage 14. I had only 38 seconds to kill the whnole thing... Even if I was only firing on the core, it never became heavely damaged. sad.gif

Died once on stage 6, 11, and 14 (I never thought dying would lower remaining time to kill it, dammit!).

I have got something you guys don't: lag. Lag has never been so useful in a game. smile.gif My lag is about 5-8 miliseconds for a real second, this makes things too easy to dodge.

Score: 3142400 with too manydeaths probably. Died on level 9/10. Not that ood, but practise practise practise. Fun though!

Edit
And yes, practise does make perfect, though i'm far from it. Level 15, 11 million points. at least 10 deaths. Don't believe me?

Very addicting. I can see me wasting countless hours on this.

I noticed that depending on your strategy, it grows in different ways. Let's say you attack from the front and back only; it will grow longer, but not very wide leaving it open to a side-on attack.

I started playing again, with the sole intention of building the absolute most challenging weapon at the earliest level. My best thus far, with proof:

Welcome to level 11: Asura with hexa-forces.

I definitely made worse later (made the Infinity at level 14, and I once made The Phoenix with Dodeca forces at level 14, too). I couldn't take pictures of those, though, but it wasn't on replay and I wasn't going to stop to take a picture. Oh well.

So yea, the one in the pic did nothing but shoot tons of lasers and rockets. And it decided to cheat real bad: it aimed its lasers while they were charging to shoot. I got out of the way and then they all converged on me and destroyed me. 0% chance of evasion.

lol, niiiice.

I got a massively insane boss once on level 14. Forgot its name but it'd fire a hoard of those blue spheres and aim its lasers at me. If I managed to dodge that? Crazy cracka goes off and rams me into a wall WHILE firing away.

Totally owned.

Ouch. This game is rough. I made it to level 12, got owned by The Phoenix. My current strategy is to start off firing one of the rear flanks and charge up the side. This works well, but once I got about half of that ship destroyed, t started going crazy with the blue balls, and it had articulating lasers. ARTICULATING! Argh, this captain went down with his ship.

Score.

I died though. Had a good 170 seconds at the one before that, but it went crazy on me and killed me 5x. I beat it with literally 0.0 seconds left.

Obviously, I died at the next one (the one in the picture.) wink.gif
