what in the world were they thinking naming their video game system wii. what type of thing is a wii it sound like it was made by perverts with a fetish. dont get me wrong though i am not trying to tiwck off the staff or the people that want this system or the con administrators. but i would feel like a total freaking moron, asking people that come over to my house do you want to play with my n ew wii. i just dont get why they would name a system like that they could have just called it the revolution and saved themselves the humiliation that will come with this system. i feel outraged bescause i grew up with nintendo and i think that they have been one of the best but now that they have created the wii i feel that i will maybe not buy the system. the will need to come out with some seriosly cool games in order for me to play it.
What do the rest of you fell about this humiliating system name i think you should just be able to say it here on this post. ps. c.o.n staff if their is anything in this post that offends you i am sorry please just send me a message and i will change it instead of giving me a warning thank you. Yeah, definitely say it in this post instead of the other half dozen that talk about the new system.
![]() But seriously, I've gotten over it. It's a name. It's odd, and you might go so far as to call it stupid, but everyone should just deal. It's. Just. A. Bloody. Name. If the games that you want are there, you'll buy it - if you won't buy it even if that's the case, then you're as stupid as the name. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

Unfortunately, it's its real name. And what people fail to understand is that it only sounds funny in English; it doesn't have that context in other languages. So I don't really see how some people can be so stupid as to disown a system because of its name, but there are stupid people out there.

While I don't entirely agree with it, I'm not so sure this is even a case of bad publicity. It's true a lot of people have been complaining about the name, but it's also true that whatever people's thoughts on it, the name has drawn attention to the system. Like R51 said, at some point people are gonna get over the name and judge the system based on what it can do and what games it has. But this is certainly putting it in the spotlight enough for people to make that determination. |

Yeah, but with a system titled 'Revolution' it would sell like hot-cakes in Mother Russia or Cuba.

It's true a lot of people have been complaining about the name, but it's also true that whatever people's thoughts on it, the name has drawn attention to the system. Yes, but how many of these people aren't already gamers to begin with? I don't think Granny Smith will rush out to buy herself a Wii after hearing it. In fact, if I weren't involved in this whole mishmash, and I heard people ranting "OMG WII WTF LAMEST NAME EVER LOL PS2 RULES" I would probably look into this "PS2" thing due to passive group pressure. And those who already are gamers, well... let's face it... either you already want a Nintendo console, or you don't. Some people have already said they wouldn't buy it because this move was a terrible one - granted, a lot of these are just going along with the internet crowd mentality but will buy one if they had planned on it in the first place. But those who are serious about it and feel they're being made fun of by Nintendo ARE lost customers... Just sayin', that saying isn't always true. Nintendo could throw cow droppings out of a big blimp onto a crowd of people with Wii cards strapped to them as a publicity stunt. It most certainly would get them plenty of publicity. But in the end it would only anger more people than convert people over to the Wii. ![]() Edit: Typo. They should have stuck with Revolution. I mean, backwards compatibility, revolutionary indeed.

I've said it many times, but again, I've gotten over it. Rev is better to me, but only in English does it sound silly. I do know people who won't get one just because of the name, and they are gamers. But most don't factor the name as a reason to get it or not.

I think that "Wii" is a terrible name that doesn't seem to have any significance, but who really cares as long as the system performs well and supports good games.

I'm over the name change. It was jarring at first, but it is the system itself that matters.

Quote I'm over the name change. It was jarring at first, but it is the system itself that matters. I totally agree, but the name does have significant meaning supposedly. Apparently, for those who have seen the trailers and teasers, the two i's are the Wii controllers, and the w Represents three things...wireless, warfare, and we...three things which will overtake the new gen system in the coming years. Wireless: Controllers and internet connection, not even mentioning the games such as "Orchestra" or "pilotWii". Warfare: represents the wide array of games, and the types of games, such as "Warioware", "Metroid Prime III", and "Project H.A.M.M.E.R", which require a lot of battling and competitiveness. We: a word that means the same thing in all contexts and languages...we...us...playing together as one gaming community, and connected through wireless internet, which is free by the way, to create a massive community of players worldwide. This is an interesting look into the system who's innovation, despite the name, will revolutionize (hmmmm...)the gaming industry and definately spark inspiration in all gamers and programmers for years to come! This...is the game revolution!!!!!!! -------------------- <DrkMagimaster282> MWAHAHA. Rubbish, true war is in a tank with air support. Shock and Awe! What you mention is barely a skirmish. ![]() Quote We: a word that means the same thing in all contexts and languages...we...us...playing together as one gaming community, and connected through wireless internet, which is free by the way, to create a massive community of players worldwide. And as has been noted a thousand times a thousand days by a billion souls, it's also pronounced the same way as a slang term for urine in at least one language. It seems the only inspiration it inspires is insane fanboy ravings from the Ninty brigade and cheap knob gags from the other fellows. ![]() Wii is more aptly named than the revoution IMO, as it frankly looks pish. Still, in a "Next Gen" of S.O.S (For those of you who want to be polite, that's same old stuff) and yesterday tomorrow, Wiivolution does have the hope of actual innovation. But innovation can sometimes be destroyed by the old tricks. I'm not convinced on performance, not convinced on games, and the only thing it has is price. And even then, I'm willing to wait to this time next year for PS3 because I'll be able to afford it. After all, it seems everywhere taking pre-orders of the console issold out already. And it costs eight hundred in funny money and £400 in Pounds Superior. I've yet to ask about Wii. The thing about a revolution. If it fails it was nothing more than a rebellion. If it succeeds, it'll happen again.
