I can't find the peice at GameInformer.com, but there is a snippet in the newest issue about a possible FFVII remake on the PS3.
I'll bring the magazine in tomorrow and type out the actual paragraph on it, but the gist of it is that for some of the PS3's demo game clips, a few sections of FFVII were remade and shown. This was done just to give the public a taste of what the PS3 could do, not to insinuate that FFVII would be remade. Since those clips were shown, though, a frenzy of support for a remake has stirred in the gaming community. Rumors in the gaming industry are high right now that Squenix is seriously considering an altered remake of the PS1 classic. Like I said, tomorrow I'll bring in the magazine and site the page number it appears on and quote the paragraph verbatim for you. That would be awesome for a ffVII remake on the PS3...besides FFXIII, FFVII remake would be one more great reason to get the PSIII!

I'd prefer the remake to be on the Wii as I'm a Nintendo fanboy, I say bring back FF to the Nintendo!
I'm not too bothered about there being a remake, we've already played the original so many times, I'd be more tempted if the remake was for the PSP or something.. |

I'm always indifferent on this matter. Sure it would be cool to see it all remade, especially after how much I liked Advent Children. But then again if they completely bombed it I'd be quite upset.
Also I don't think I'll have $500 to fork out for a PS3 ![]() -------------------- "Shut up. You're making me sober..." -Reno *Ryoko* |

That would be nice, I guess. Hasn't squareenix milked it for all it's worth? I mean, Dirge of Cereberus seems cool and all, and I would get the game with Zack if I planned on getting a PSP (which I don't.) But come on! In Japan, theirs also another game, a couple novels, and some cell phone games. I just hope it works out, or I will be quite dissapointed.

Wasn't that PS3 tech demo first seen a year ago and at the time they denied they planned a PS3 remake for the forseeable future? Unless they're shortsighted, I don't buy it. What's the point? Surely a remake will just divert resources from "new" games. It'll also make millions. Oh, I see now. They don't need to think of anything new when they can just copy what's been done before, and when 7/10 people don't really want new. Guess Squenix will be staying with Sony for sure then, oho! -------------------- "Only the dead have seen the end of their quotes being misattributed to Plato." -George Santayana "The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here..." -Abraham Lincoln, prior to the discovery of Irony. |

I'd buy an FF7 remake. It's the only game in the series that really could be improved just by tweaking the graphics.

No...not MORE fanservice..........
No... NO... NOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooo............ Damnit, leave it alone, Squenix! Although, I guess it does kinda follow logically from their remaking FF1-6. I don't expect to see FF8 remade too soon, though, although given the number of FF8 fankids, I may also be wrong about that. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. What what what? They made the parts you're talking about AGES ago. Then they promptly said they would not be making an FFVII remake.
They won't make a remake on the PS3, surely not after announcing they're making FFXIII for it at the moment. Although I must say I'd love a purely graphical update. Squenix have almost NONE of the same people working in their company that made FFVII. Therefore it'd be crap no doubt. Just be happy with knowing FFVII was the greatest game of its time. Not the greatest game of the future. -------------------- Scepticism, that dry rot of the intellect, had not left one entire idea in his mind. Me on the Starcraft. |

As has been pointed out twice already, yes.... these images came out some time ago. It was announced at the time that they were shown that they were for demo purposes only. That might be changing, though. That's all the snippet was saying.

There's been speculation for some time. One place even saying it was due in fall 2008... Where do these people get their facts from??? I think since Squenix are officially making FFXIII on PS3, we can rule out an FFVII remake surely.
I don't think Squenix have the guts to do it anyway. They'd be too nervious about ruining their greatest game. -------------------- Scepticism, that dry rot of the intellect, had not left one entire idea in his mind. Me on the Starcraft. |

A full remake would effectivly make FFVII on the PS redundant. That's much more than a film based on the game. If they screwed up the remake their jewel in the Final Fantasy crown would be shattered.

It was on page 25 of the May 2006 issue # 157 in the "loose talk" section and said this: FFVII x XII Last E3, Square Enix made fanboys squeal when it showed thow Final Fantasy VII could be remade on the Playstation 3. Of course, the company went to pains to point out how it had no plans to release an updated version of Final Fantasy VII on the system. Rumors have been swirling since day on that the game would indeed come to the PS3, and now Loose Talk has not only heard that these rumors are true, bu the remake will in fact use the battle system from Final Fantasy XII. -------------------- Elena Indurain Currently Playing: Suikoden II |

Of course it did. But that's not the point. FF4-6 had pretty good 2D graphics. FF8-9 had pretty good 3D graphics. FF10 had great 3D graphics. FF7 had really crappy 3D graphics. That's not the biggest problem with the game, by any means, but it's the only game where updating the graphics to what developers can do now would be a significant improvement. To do that to FF4-6 would require a complete remapping of the entire world, and probably just be stupid. To do that to FF8-10 just wouldn't have as big of an effect. It's too much to hope for that they'd fix the plot holes or get rid of Cait Sith entirely. But better graphics? That would make me marginally happy. Get rid of Cait Sith?! That would be like taking away one of the Beatles.
If they make the remake (which they won't) I'd hope they ONLY improved graphics and glitches. But this means more than people realise. For example, in a battle, Cloud's normal attack would look different to each monster they fight instead of the repetitive single slash; a lot like Squall's Renzokuken looking different against Jumbo Cactuar and Omega/Ultima Weapon. Also magic would concentrate on a monster's weak point. An example being the Desert Sahagin's with their shields. Fire might fly in the air before attacking from above. However the game wouldn't change at all. All the magic and attacks would take of the same amount as FFVII and critical hits would only depend on Luck still. Now you can't tell that would be bad, surely. -------------------- Scepticism, that dry rot of the intellect, had not left one entire idea in his mind. Me on the Starcraft. |

Doesn't make sense? How so? Reeve controls the cat (could be in any way - Manipulate, robot, pet) and is at first a spy for the Turks, then sides with AVALANCHE after he's touched by their commitment to the planet despite getting no credit for it.

And the part where we're supposed to think it's a huge and noble sacrifice when the stuffed animal gets crushed because of the black materia thing? How does that make sense? It's a remote-controlled toy that's instantly replaced. And how about Reeve/Cait Sith's wildly changing accent over time? He starts out talking like a normal person, and then moved into hick mode toward the end of the game. Haha quite funny. Yeah I agree Cait Sith does change accent but remember it's a different Cait Sith in the later parts. Each voice I suppose must be unique to each Cait Sith as it won't be Reeve's voice being used.

Before we turn this into a "we hate cait sith" vs. "cait sith is the best" fight, lets add a new thought into the mix.
With this whole "final fantasy rennesiance" in the nintendo handhelds, don't you think that remaking it to the DS would be cool? I mean, the graphics could end up improving, and finding a decent copy of FFVII is next to impossible (my copy freezes at the part in the submarine, I bought a new one, and it dosnt even make it past the Squaresoft loading screen), and going through menus/assigning materia would be a snap. -------------------- Can you pull down the dawn? I read in a different magazine recently that is trustworthy, that they interviewed the Sony President not long ago, and he did say he was strongly considering going through with a FF7 remake all the way as the idea seemed so popular. So don't be too suprised if it does happen.
I'd buy it, oh yes. Hope they don't mess it up though. -------------------- 'Let that be a lesson to all oppressive vegetable sellers.' |

As long as they keep it all the same, bar the obvious improved graphics of course. I highly doubt it would have the FFXII battle system, that wouldn't make any sense at all.

A remake of FFVII would be nice, but I am not going to buy a PS3 just for that (which probably is already a plan by sony, since it was FFVII that made the playstation)
PS3 would have to get many great games and have slashed the price by 60% before I buy one. -------------------- "Have you ever seen a baby do that before?" |
