Every sane gamer knows of the age old rivalries between Sony and Nintendo (and new competitors like microsoft), which date back over times past...or about 10 years or so, whichever sounds better. I wish everybody didnt have to yell at everyone else when they mention a system they dont like and say another is better, ultimately leading to a fight. I.E.
"Hey Johnny, the PS3's gonna be way better than the Wii when it is released, ya know...with its 60 and 20 gig systems, who could deny it!" "Paul, even though it is better, i still want the Wii more for its choice of games. i like mario, samus, and kirby (hopefully) to appear on a great new-gen console, and they arent on the PS3..." "But the Wii sucks!" "You suck!" Then the fight occurs. Everybody just stop the rivalries, and respect and be cool with each other for playing games in general. We are a split community...but we all enjoy one thing similiarly: Gaming. Just think if all game companies even just for a moment put aside their differences and combined their efforts to put all their upgrades from each system and gear into one system with ultimate selections of games, such as Gametap.com, which many have seen on commercials on TV! Just think of the possibilities...in fact, i want to hear from you the people. What do you think, despite income and money and all those jazzy details, a combo next-gen system would be like? -------------------- <DrkMagimaster282> MWAHAHA. Bad idea.
Rivalries, competition, and different consoles are what make it intresting. A combo-sysrem that all three collaborate on will be hampered by the inevitable conflict of intrest. What makes them unique will fade away, and the consumer gets no choice. Beyond that, fighting over a console is stupid and pointless, because the Wii does suck. ![]() *For those of you unfamiliar with it, this is a joke. Not to undermine anything on my own topic, but to clarify, If they merged for one system and, like only about a limited # of games, like a limited edition style fo gaming, what would be incorporated in making it and played on it?
PS: I didnt mean rivalries, i meant "ima gonna kill you if you say it sucks one more time" kind of fighting. Trust me, it happens here at Sealth high school once in a while This post has been edited by DrkMagimaster282 on 10th May 2006 17:03 -------------------- <DrkMagimaster282> MWAHAHA. Half the fun of being a part of the gaming community is innocently ripping into the other consoles.....

We hate Communism." Gametap does sound pretty cool though |

It sound nice in theory, but would fail very hard in practice a few years down the line. What is it that drives companies? Competition. Why invest hundreds of thousands of dollars into R&D if there's nothing to beat out there? Companies don't exist in cutsey ideal worlds: they exist for the sake of employement and profit. So why pay more when people would be just as satisfied with less? With a competitive market, if the next guy does better than you, you won't make a profit because everyone will flock to the next guy. You need to give people "more" by looking into newer and better technologies to stay on top of the next guy. It would probably be cool for a console, maybe two. After that, the idea would start to crash... with no system to beat, why push yourself and spend money? Besides, we call that a monopole. There are laws against it. ![]() -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |

Without the stimulus of intense competition, I think the industry would stagnate more than it already has. With total graphical realism fast approaching, we need multiple perspectives on console hardware to promote creativity. Whether it's market-safe consumerism (Microsoft), high-end business ventures (Sony), or cutting-edge gameplay innovation (Nintendo), I think it's important to expose developers and the public to different approaches instead of consolodating hardware manufacture into a single product.
Besides, I doubt you could get the big three companies to agree on anything long enough to get the project done. -------------------- "I always have a quotation for everything - it saves original thinking." ~Dorothy L. Doesn't America in general thrive on competition? Not a sarcastic question, just one out of ignorance. I love competition and I love "rooting" for one particular side (I always stick to the same sides; as far as consoles, Sony and Sega) and I get upset when "my team" loses and I'm ecstatic when "my team" wins.

Quote (FabulousFreebird @ 12th May 2006 06:47) Doesn't America in general thrive on competition? Actually, any business thrives on competition. So long as they don't end up crushed by it. Competition forces you to make changes and improvements in order to keep up and surpass the other guy's company, otherwise everyone will go to them and you'll lose business. Competition is good, but harsh. -------------------- "Judge not a man by his thoughts and words, but by the quality and quantity of liquor in his possession and the likelyhood of him sharing." |
