It's on the Wii, and it's got Wario, Samus in her Zero suit, Pit from Kid Icarus, Meta-Knight from Kirby, and Solid Snake. Yes, that Solid Snake.

SSBM has been undeniably the bestselling and most popular game on the Gamecube, and now it's going to the Wii in 2007; it's not a launch title. It also features full online playability, and does not necessarily have to played with special mechanics that rely on the Wii controller. In fact, you can play the game with the Wii's shell controller or a Gamecube controller.
Quote
Super Smash Bros. Brawl will feature two control modes: motion-controlled and classic, GameCube-style combat. That means players who prefer to play the game with the traditional control setup can do so using the GameCube controller they're already accustomed to while the new motion control adds a new dimension previously not available in fighting games.

But yeah, those five are new characters, but they wouldn't confirm or deny if there were any others beyond those five. At least not in the Joystiq article I read.

Edit
Could there be supermoves in this new SSB? Let's speculate!

Solid Snake? Whoa...Konami's got part in this. What about Belmonts?

And what's the Zero suit? Her blue "flight suit"?

Good going with Meta-Knight.

Are there any non-registration links?

Samus is clearly now female, and Nintendo needs to capitalize on her particular assets.

As for Solid Snake, he had better be broken like Kirby was in N64. I will not accept Snake being anything than absolutely dominating! I forsee him pulling out the cardboard box as his shield.

Solid Snake and SSB seems like a bad pairing. He's not...fun enough. A little too cool for the game, perhaps.

Regardless, I have been anticipating this game for a long time. Hope it turns out well!

I'm sure you saw the trailer, lasz, but in case anybody didn't see these new characters in action:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3...mash+bros+brawl

I cannot wait until this comes out! It looks amazing, although I'm not so sure how I feel about those new "super-moves". Oh well. I'll still buy it and put 200+ hours into playing it.

Actually, I believe that they asked Kojima if Snake could be in the game.

And I don't care, Pit from Kid Icarus is in the game. Well, I guess Meta Knight is pretty cool too.

I also had a link to the theme song of the game, let me see if I can find it again...it seems it's being done by Uematsu, no doubt.

I'm just happy to see another smash bros, even though I'm yet to play the one on the nintendo 64, smash brothers is no doubt the best multiplayer game and with it being online... I just can't wait, I hope the Wii is the most successful console. biggrin.gif

According to a fairly reliable source, Kojima has wanted Snake to be in SSB since the Gamecube version. However, he asked rather late in the development process, and Nintendo felt that it was too late for him to be coded in.

He's just the first of a few third party characters, I think. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw our favorite blue hedgehog get thrown into the mix as well. pirate.gif

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I never got into the MGS series (not b/c it's bad, I just never took the time to sit down and play the games) so I'm not that excited about Snake to begin with. Regardless, I recognize Snake as a popular and well respected character.

But he doesn't seem to fit in w/ everyone else. He seems a little too...real...for the cartoonish environment of SSB. I mean, you're talking about characters who fight in Dreamland and Yoshi's Island, not Vietnam. I think a more cartoonish character like Sonic or Mega Man would have been a better fit for their first third-party character.

Anyway, I'm probably one of, like, 5 people who will say anything. I'm sure Snake will be extremely popular, and once the fighting starts people will just enjoy playing as him and against him.

I wouldn't want sonic to be in the game. I'm honestly not sure if having solid snake in there is a good idea. It just takes away the nintendo feel of the game. But who knows? Maybe it will be ok.

Snake is definitely a popularity plug, and I have more concern that he doesn't fit among a sea of Nintendo characters than that he doesn't fit because he's too "serious". I mean, don't we have Samus, Fox, and Falco already anyway?

Clearly you all forget the overly animated cardboard box. There is no way Snake would be in a game without the box, and that alone is SSB style. It's a BOX!

I see what you're saying, but part of the fun of the SSB games is the mishmash of the serious and the ridiculous. Samus, Fox, Link, Marth, Roy, and some others are quite serious-looking, while Kirby, Pikachu, Yoshi, and the Ice Climbers are decidedly not serious at all. Snake is a serious character. Wario definitely isn't. It balances out.

Fantastic preview for a hopefully fantastic game. I think the choices for new characters were good all-around, with fan favorites (Meta-Knight) and esoteric references (Pit) both represented nicely. The graphics look like they got a nice upgrade, and the core gameplay seems largely intact, which is a good thing. I saw some interesting footage there of potential "super moves" - a neat idea, but I wonder how it will effect game balance in that kind of full-screen brawler. Regardless, I'm genuinely excited to try this one out.

Oh, and I think that Snake is a great choice, but he definitely came out of nowhere. When I first saw the codec screen pop up in the trailer, I figured the video had accidentally recorded into some other demo. It was a pleasant (and humorous) surprise to see him join up with all the mainstay Nintendo characters, and I think that kind of variety is just the thing to keep the formula fresh.

I just wish to add that I love the theme song. If you haven't heard it, you can download it from the official SSB site. I'm not sure if it's on the trailer, but I'm sure by now most of you know of the dial-up thing

I'm fairly psyched for this as well. The additions into the Gamecube version were great, and they've made some fairly solid choices on this installment, though I think the Samus Zero Suit was a bit of a copout. Capt. N would've been a better choice. Also, if they bring in any more 3rd parties, I hope Megaman makes it. He may be a Capcom character, but he's always been affilitated to Nintendo in my mind. Megaman and Capt. N would make my SSB dreams come true. As would the suggestion of the lad from Harvest Moon happy.gif HM FTW!

I second the sentiment for Mega Man (and Harvest Moon Guy, as little sense as that would make), but the chances of Captain N ever making it into SSBB are extremely slim. Captain N is only really recognizable to the English-speaking public (US, UK, Canada) and as such probably wouldn't be a top choice for Nintendo, who needs to sell to a more global market. The Asian market, especially Japan, still counts for a huge portion of Nintendo's (and any game company's) sales, so they need someone a little more accessible.

Frankly, I've never liked the guy anyway.

i havent heard much about this particular game other then what was said at e3 but in the all out facts i have a feeling it should be pretty cool i dont reall think that they need to put in death moves for the characters they didnt in the other ones and they were just fine and plus if they do it in this one the only people that could win would be the people who have practiced the so called death moves.

Solid Snake huh.gif , it might be interesting to see him go CQC all over Luigi or someone.

In the trailer I noticed that it had Metaknight's ship flying around in the backround, I think having the Great Fox and Metaknight's ship having a aerial fight, would make a decent stage hopping back and forth between them. happy.gif

I wonder if they will add any more of the Kong family to the fighting roster?

There's one thing that I think they should change about SSBB is the final boss, Master and Crazy Hand were cool and Giga Bowser was fun, but I figure they should try a few of the bosses from some of the character's other games like Ridley or K Rool.
