Equip the Cursed Shield along with a Ribbon to anyone and battle 255 times, then you'll get the Paladin Shield.

It may take a while, but the effort pays off in the long run. biggrin.gif

Just remember, though. Ribbons, Back Rows, and lots and lots of patience. Key thing. I only just pulled off the Paladin Shield thing year before last (not that it takes that long to do, just that it's a very long and tedious process), and the stronger your other characters are and the fewer the enemies you face, all the better.

Too bad there weren't more of them in the game...

Paladin Shields! Not Cursed Shields. Jeez. All bad enough. laugh.gif

It works just fine as long as the character is alive - you don't need to have a Ribbon equipped, it just helps a great deal because then the character with the CS isn't all status'd up.

Yes, its only to keep your character from suffering so badly hed wish he was killed... wink.gif

Go to the Soliatary Island. You can fight the Poppers here and they often just kill themselves. You wont level up, but you can bang out 3-4 fights a minute easily. Its still tedious, but this is the quickest way in my experience.

Personally, I just grab the shield as early as possible and go through the rest of the game with it equipped.
It's less tedious that way, even though you have condemn and a worthless shield equipped for a character. I usually stick it on someone that never attacks normally, like Sabin or Edgar.

When I get it, I usually go right to the Veldt. I use the opportunity to get some rages.

I know that the question seems stupid!!! but i unequipped and re-equipped it directly... on the same character... does that affect anything? :\ plus, do the battles need 2 be played consecutively?

No, the battles do not have to be consecutive if I recall correctly.
Also, the battle count doesn't reset if the character with the shield dies.

What I do is I go to the Dinosaur Forest, equip the shield user with a Ribbon and Exp. Egg (Growth Egg FFVIA) and bring a really high level character and level up. It works like a charm!

What helped me back in the day to keep track of the battles I fought in order to break the curse on the sheild is as follows:

1) Equip the sheild on someone with farily decent stats
2) Equip the Ribbon Relic
3) Equip an Esper that has a spell the is learned at 1%
4) Go to Solitary Island (Cid's Island WoR)
5) Fight enemies that only dole out one Magic AP ber battle
6) Repeat Step 3 three times (or until you get to the magic number of 255)

Yeah, I agree with Kaijuu. There's no trick to it, there's no secret method, it's just work it off. Do whatever you'd be doing otherwise, and keep plugging along until the curse breaks.

well, you could put everything together and get the shield as early as possible, go to the veldt get some rages, complete all the sidequests, and pretty soon you'll have a paladin shield.
