I'm just curious as to what people think pushes Terra to do the things that she does. What motivates her to be so selfless to meet Tritoch, to go to the Esper Gate, to meet Yura and the others, to face down Gestahl?

Is it just coincidence and peer pressure? Or is there something else deeper?

I mean, look how she's constantly asking about love and friendship, yet does nothing that furthers those goals unless they land in her lap (see children in Moblitz). What do you think is going on here?

Visions of Peace - Four Generals, One Empire, and the Returners caught in the middle.

In my opinion, she is very lost. I mean, she went her whole life under the control on the Empire, and now she is free and trying to figure out the world around her. She doesn't really have a lot to lose either, until she forms secure bonds with the party members and, of course, when she gets stuck with the kids in Mobliz. Of course, that's just my view on things.

I agree with Luna. But in addition to all that... (oh, and the followin' will be quite spoilery)...

...Her willingness to return to Tritoch is obviously outta desperation on the part of herself and maybe the Returners. Although she (you) can repeatedly choose to say "No" to Banon's plea for help in regards to his botched-up Pandora's Box summary, she still goes along with things mainly for herself, having been prompted - but not forced - by the group of people who just wanna use her (in this case the Returners), so she can find answers pertaining to her past and identity - something Tritoch appeared to briefly tap into.

Later on Terra regains her memory and, at the same time, becomes the only person to truly recognize and believe wholly in the fact that Espers and humankind are capable of coexisting peacefully; after all, she's living proof. Her thoughts prior to seeking out the Esper Gate, which are along the same aforementioned lines, suggest she's simply curious about her own existence and - most likely for the same reason she takes up Gestahl on his (deceitful) request and further on meets up with Yura - really wants peace between the two species and is aware she's the only one who can make that connection.

Regarding love and friendship, she's understandably confused about both abstract ideas, hence why she asks 'bout them. Her opportunity to finally learn and share these feelings herself doesn't just "land in her lap"; she could've left Mobliz at any time, but both her eagerness to feel wanted/needed as well as maternal instinct clearly took over (which is just as well; being an Esper-human "hybrid" probably means she naturally wouldn't be able to have any kids of her own anyway... kinda like mules). What she says 'bout the situation when you find her pretty well covers it, too.

In the end it's that same strong will to keep the future, hope itself, and all that good 'n' cheery stuff safe from utter annihilation. Too bad that, given what we actually learn throughout the game concerning magic and the gods/goddesses, killing off the source of all magic should sooner destroy the world than save it...

But that's just my ridiculously long-winded take on it.
