What does Leo mean when he says "I understand only too well".... it seems more than just never finding love.

TERRA: I'm the product of a human and an Esper... Will I ever be able
to love someone?
LEO: Of course!
TERRA: But...I haven't felt that way yet...
LEO: You're just young. ...but I understand what you mean. I
understand only too well...

There are four possibilities I can think of...

1) He's a career soldier and married to his job. (Most likely.)

2) He's a homosexual and no one asked, so he didn't tell. (Plausable but unlikely.)

3) He lost his bits in battle (Ludicrious yet somewhat amusing in a sick way.)

4) His wife refuses to sleep with him.

But in all honesty, I think he's too devoted to his job to have been able to have time for love (because whilst more people wish to make the former the latter lasts longer and costs more so needs more attention). As he may have been unable to feel love for a long time, and even when he could he could not follow up on it, he understands well.

Perhaps he is like Celes and is infused with magic. His special move shows this. Celes also had trouble with love. Mabye the infusation of magic destroys your ability to experiance romance?

I... don't think being infused with magic destroys the ability to experience romance. That's waaaay too Deus Ex Machina even for Square, and nothing supports this anyhow (Celes? Trouble with love? Heck I'd say Locke has probably been hitting that long before the end of the game. wink.gif ) It's more likely just a fresh dose of young adult angst and inexperience.

Seems like Leo just had bad experiences. I mean, have you seen his portrait? Sheesh. I can't begin to imagine how many times he's been turned down.

He isn't infused with magic. Either some townspeople in Vector or some soldiers in the Doma camp tell you that he refused to be artificially infused like Kefka or Celes; the soldiers like him all the more for it.

Plus, in the brief moments you get to control Leo in Thamasa, he can use Shock, but no magic. That's pretty telling, there.

Yet his special ability is called Shock. You could say he's the Shocker of the Empire.

*ahem* I'm so sorry.

If it's not magic, what is it, then? I mean, to some degree, the game accepts a certain level of non-magical, but non-physical powers (physical in the sense of following-the-laws-of-physics). Take the Blitzes, even - sure, pummel and suplex are a result of training, but aura bolt? Fire dance? The game waay devalues magic in action, rather than in plot.

I think he just hadn't met the right girl yet.

And, I think, that would have been Terra if he hadn't gone and died on her like that.

Yea, the game is a little odd about that stuff.
Like Stetzers slot uses a lot of magic. But then again, he did have a strong relationship with the Empire, so they may have given him some magic-infused slot machine, who knows?

Half the monsters in the game use magic, so i dont get why Locke and Edgar were so surprised to see terra use it.

i think the reason is either hes too devoted to his job or hes to afraid to love and then lose his loved one or being in the service too long has drained some his emotions....

BTW, how old is General Leo supposedly? And while we're at it, how about Kefka?

You know, I always thought Leo was kind of a creep for doing that to her. :/

One can only wonder what would've come out of the game had Leo been in the WoR. tongue.gif

I think it means that he understands feeling like he'll never be able to love someone. He's devoted so much to being a soldier, and done so many horrible things (maybe not Kefka-horrible, but killing people still isn't happy) that he wonders if he can ever experience a truly positive feeling like love.

Ki-based attacks-- They come from your spirit/soul/energy/what-have-you.

"How can Ken and Ryu throw a hadouken?" It's from their ki.

I always figured that it was the same for Leo and his Shock attack- comes from within him, and since he's a knight a wields a sword into battle as opposed to Sabin's fists, uses his sword to "draw out" his attack.
