I really like Yang, Rosa, Cecil, Rydia, Cid. Yang, Cecil, and Cid seem to do the most damage physically (if you have all their ultimate weapons). Rosa just heals and Rydia is there for Bahamut/Flare spell.

I've decided now that my favorite party is... the original five. Once you get their new equipment out of the Lunar Ruins and five Hero Shields, they are simply unstoppable (right now I have one Hero's Shield, and Rydia has it). The Abel Lance and Lightbringer are probably the best weapons in the game, and both of them are powerhouses in general. Edge has the highest Speed in the game, excellent weapons in the Mutsunokami and Sasuke katanas, and a number of useful abilities, but his Speed is why he's so useful. Rydia easily maxes Intellect (not as easily as Palom, but still easily) and has the awesome Mist Ring bonus of casting Image on your entire party. Rosa's Miracle skill is free healing, and the Perseus' Bow is really awesome in general - you can also just repeat her trial to get more arrows.

The original party minus Edge (who annoys me) and plus Yang. It's a good party that's well balanced with magic users and power hitters. Also, it really helps that I heart.gif Yang.

yippee! another party thread!

Party that rocks:
Edge
Rydia
Edward/Kain
Yang
Cecil

I know Ed' isn't the greatest, but he's cool in his own way, but if I have to do a lot of damage I use Kain.

I've only played the SNES version, but even with the GBA, I'd probably use the same party you normally use. I MAY replace Edge with Yang, because Edge can't hold up that well against magic users due to his low defense and HP, and he needs stuff to Dart, and that stuff is expensive. -CSM

The original five. Never been one of the ones to scream about wishing you could change out party members.

I pretty much use the original five except Edge. Never really cared for him. I use Porom instead, because having two White Mages makes my day.

Also note- Yang and Cid, both can hit hard and Cid has astronomical HP growth I've noticed. Gilbert (Who I named "Elbert" for a hybrid official and space-cased name.) has Chant, which is an awesome Mighty Guard effect, plus he hits decently. Just not as hard as the other melee fighters.

I'm seeing a lot of Yang, so I think I need to set something straight. In FF IV Advance Yang is awesome for quite awhile, but once your levels hit the 60s I think Edge gets better. He maxes Strength really early his weapons don't have any Battle Power, so he'll be doing ~3000-3500 damage per attack early on, but it doesn't get any better. Kain, Cecil, Cid, and Edge all surpass that fairly easily, as each of them can hit 255 Battle Power easily.

Cid does have great HP, but his special armor is terrible - no special elemental defenses, few stat improvements, and no Speed increases. The Firey Hammer is pretty great, with its 255 BP and random castings of Flare, but it uses two hands, so Cid doesn't get a welcome boost from a shield (notably the Hero's Shield), and his Intellect is so low that Flare barely does any damage.

Edward is probably the best of all them, with great weapons (Apollo's Harp = Fire elemental with bonus damage to dragons and undead = all kinds of awesome) and armor (Edward's Vishnu Vest and Rydia's Rainbow Robe are the only special body armors that protect against every kind of element), great Agility (remember, the broken ATB loves Agility) and a great special skill (everyone loves Chant), but he has one problem - he's WAY too frail. His HP are lower than Rydia's or Palom's, and he doesn't have great natural Stamina to balance that out. Also, his Harp weapons are front row (surprising, no?) and use two hands, so no shield.

That leaves me with Edge. Great Agility, great weapons, and with the Rising Sun weapons (almost, but not quite as good as his two special katana) he can be a force in the back row. Throwing items are now almost completely unnecessary, but it helps to have some Fuma around to deal straight 9s whenever you feel like it. He gets my vote as the best non-Cecil-or-Kain physical fighter in the game, but it takes awhile for him to noticeably outclass Yang.

Something sounds SO wrong with this line.

I'd assume this is a carry-over from the original game, since Cid had absolutely no magic anyway and therefore didn't need either the wisdom or will stats to deal a good amount of damage. However, the idea of casting a low-"Intellect" character as an engineer is...let's just say, somewhat off.

(And there's always Kain's casting a very very weak White spell from the White Lance, but he's not supposed to be as smart.)

You're probably right. As an undergrad, my friends nicknamed me "Voodoo" because they considered Electrical Engineering to be voodoo magic, so really I should be no different than Rydia or the twins. laugh.gif

I'm going to go with Cecil, Kain, Cid, Yang/Edge, and Rosa. There's a number of good fighters, plus rosa for healing them as needed. I prefer physical attacks to magic in this game.

I just wanted to add that you can buy those in one of the 'Lunar Villages'. (20,000 gil apiece though, but you can buy a good amount by going through the Ruins over and over again.)

He isn't. Tellah is the one character that actually leaves for good when he ceases to be a playable character (avoiding spoilers, here).

Hmm.
I am partial to-
Kain, Cecil, Cid,Porom, and Rydia.

I don't really care at this stage in the game really though. Edge is an acceptable member over Cid, and Palom is equally cool with me instead of Rydia.

I hate Rosa though. Porom heals for far more.

I'm so confused.

Different party members? New equipment? I must be out of the loop...

This game is obviously different and there are additional weapons... but do you get to pick you characters from a group/list like in FFVI... I'm so confused.

Would somebody please elaborate or hook me up with a good source?

I see you don't know much about the new content in FFIV Advance

New Characters and Cave of Ordeals:
You see, when you destroy the Babil Giant and head off to the moon, you get to access all the characters in the game but the two old men. (That's Edward, Cid, Yang, and the Twins) They can be switched out at the Mysida Prayer/Wish Tower. They're levels are even on par with yours. At Mt. Ordeals, their is a new dungeon that has the new characters good head gear and armor. At the end of the dungeon, their is a save point and a warp point that leads outside, as well the characters new weapons. To get each new weapon, iyou must fight a boss monster, which the particular character must participate in. For example, the get Edward's Apollo Harp, you must fight the Gigas Worm, and Edward must be in the fight. As Cecil can't be switched out, that means you will need to make at least two trips to get everything.

Lunar Ruins:
When you defeat Zeromus at the core, after the ending plays, you will get a message saying that the Gates at the Lunar Ruins were unlocked. The Lunar Ruins are a gigantic dungeon with random floors that may be towns, or look like places that you've been to, among others. At regular intervals, their are doors. Each door has a picture of a warrior, like a mage, or a bard. To unlock the door and try the challenge, you must beat Zeromus with that character, and have him/her in your party. To open Yang's door for example, you must beat Zeromus with Yang in your party, and take him to that door. Then, you will commence in a challenge, from rescuing people, to a crazi taxi like adventure. At the end, you must fight a Lunar Summon, which is a souped up version of the Summons. At the end, you win wonderful prizes including kick-ass weapons, and handy rings that beef up your powers. At the end, you fight a couple of interesting bosses.

Anyone want to add on that?

Is random magic casts at all determined by the character's stats? When you use an equipped weapon as an item (get Gaia Mallet to cast quake, get Stardust rod to cast Comet, etc) the power of the spell is calculated through the regular equations, but they use a set number chosen by the programmers instead of the character's stat. It seems to me like they would have used the same process for here.

That's possible, but I'm inclined to think it's the same spell. It's the only way that I can justify the Firey Hammer's Flare spell barely doing 2000 damage, while the Lightbringer's Holy does upwards of 6000 - Cecil's magic-oriented stats are loads better than Cid's. Of course, I'm certainly no rom hacker, so I could be wrong.

It's also home to the most powerful enemies in the game, Brachioraidos, Zeromus EG, and the Lunar Summons, like you said. And there are some pretty invincible regular enemies too. It's also the best place to level up to level 99. (Go alone.) You can get duplicates of rare items (like Ribbons) that you couldn't in the original (to my knowledge), and the towns sell super powerful equipment and items (Elixirs, Megalixirs, Fuuma Shurikens, Dry Ethers, etc.)

Not much, but meh.
