I have it set to "active" currently. I'm not sure if I ever changed it or not, but I guess I prefer it now over wait. It's slightly more challenging and forces me not to take my sweet time.

Wait. I like to have time to decide on my next move.

it also helps to have the game on wait just incase you're a die-hard fan that never stops playing and just happens to pass out right in the middle of a fight...

I must say it is useful when that happens and yes that has happened to me before...

But I also agree that when the monsters get instant decisions, they should not be able to attack me while I'm scrolling down to the spell I decided I was going to use 4 turns ago.

Wait.

Tiddles, Neal, and others have already stated my reasoning.

Also, I am most definitely a sit-down-and-figure-things-out kinda guy, not a make-decisions-on-the-fly person.

Active, let there be a time limit to what I want to do, and sometimes I choose to do something RIGHT AFTER the monster attacks.

Although I usually have a long-term strategy planned for most boss battles (Haste everyone, Locke just heal, Terra morph, y'know) and my short-term planning is usually about 3 turns ahead, I still prever Active. Mostly because it increases the tension and makes the mood of the game more urgent (illusion of difficulty is everything in an RPG), and that's especially needed in games that are too easy.

Besides, I'm really quick with those spells. I don't use items that much, but when I do, I have the previous character cast a long spell or do a blitz, buying me time.

I usually use wait, but for CT and FFIV GBA, I've tried Active for a little more difficulty.

It's just not fun when I play when it is on wait...I do like the challenge of active and having to change strategy on the fly...

I don't usually mess with that setting, just stick it on whatever it starts with.  Usually that turns out to be Wait.  In games like Chrono Trigger where it asks you your preference at the beginning, I choose Wait.  Sure, it seems cheap to make the enemy wait for you to go through your menu, but you don't get to pick instantly like they do.

Wait is for cheaters. I mean, turn Wait on and have two gauges full. Make someone attack and then when it shows the other one's gauge, quickly go to the item or magic menu and you'll see that all the other gauges will freeze, even the enemies'. But the character currently striking continues and then goes back to his position. So it's a cheap way to battle like that.

It's just my opinion.

I choose wait, because I take forever to find the right items and spells. That, and Cyan's charge times aren't a liability on wait, and I'm a big Cyan fan.

It varies. There are times when I want to listen to the music, and for those times I choose wait. (This applies to all games, not just FFVI). Other times, I choose active. -CSM

Wait.  Same reasoning as Neal: the computer doesn't have to press down until it gets to the spell it wants, so why should I have to waste my ATB time on it?

I agree. The computer picks its spells somewhat at random, and I might not know the exact place of the spell/item I want, so I want my menu shifting time. =P

Wait. I think its better for me because I have to think about all of my options before I pick what to use.

Maybe it's because:

1) The enemy rigth before it strikes he chooses it fast and then waits a while. That's what I saw in FFV's Control command.
2) The enemy has only a few spells.

Actually, not at all. The spells are random because the enemies use a "Randomly choose between: XXX, YYY, and ZZZ" function in their AI. And control is not at all related to an enemy's AI. Each enemy has an index with a maximum of 4 spells that can be chosen from when they're controlled, independant of their AI. They may or may not be able to use these spells normally, and just because they use a spell normally doesn't mean you can use it while they're controlled.

As for me, I prefer Wait for the reasons already stated. If the computer can choose a spell instantly, I should be able to as well.

I prefer wait for the mentions stated above; and that I don't want to die trying to revive my other party members, or die because I want to scroll down to the healing item on the menu, while the enemy attacks me. tongue.gif

I use active mode always in every game with that option... Wait mode is a little boring, you don't get dessesperated for take an antidote because you are 20hp and you arepoisoned and you have to take it before the stupid monsters hit you, you don't feel that relief if you get it and neither you feel that you wanna take revenge of that silly monsters that had killed ya... Agggh I hate Poison spell

I always picked active... because I figure that's how it was supposed to be played but I am the independent King of setting down the controller, leaving the room to do something and coming back to find my party decimated or at least close to that point.

You'd think I'd learn one of these days.
