Balance.

FFVI didn't have the greatest music ever (even though it comes pretty darn close). It didn't have the greatest gameplay ever (even though it's still pretty great). It didn't have the most amazing SNES graphics (although the graphics are nevertheless extremely well-done). It didn't have the most impressive script or most interesting/comprehensible/complex/compelling/coherent plot (even though, in both categories, FFVI ranks very close to the best).

It was the confluence of all of these things, in such a way that they all complemented each other nearly perfectly. For example, I can't think of a single piece of music that mismatched its original purpose. Innovative gameplay and graphics were used to tell the story in such a way that I felt like I was leading the story, instead of the other way around (e.g. FFVII). The plot, through various things including the script and the sidequests, brought the characters "to life" in an extraordinarily vivid manner. The plot being a balance between predictability and surprise.

Thank you so much for summing it up for me. Balance. That really is why I like it so much...

I couldn't think of the right way to describe it, but Balance, that's definitely it. (Too bad the world in the game couldn't stay that way...tongue.gif)

Well, I could count the reasons, but it would take forever.

First, the story. It was probably the best of them all. I just enjoy stories about Imperial desires.

Next, the characters. Probably the most memorable in the series, and even those who didn't contribute much to the main plot got their own ending sequences. This cannot be said about most of the other Final Fantasies. In fact, only FFIV and FFV do this, just not as beautifully as FFVI does.

Next, the gameplay. This is the most importaint part. Yes, it was an easy game. But it was also the first RPG I played that involved learning skills by doing more than just leveling up. And it was hard the first time I played through, 11 years ago. It took me probably 10 tries to beat some of the bosses! So it's not as easy as everyone says it is.

Next, the sound. This is easily Nobuo Umeatsu's finest work. Themes for each character that truly speak the voices of the characters. And it's not just Aria di Mezzo Carattere and Dancing Mad. Almost every theme in this game really brought out the spirit of the game, and the soundtrack fit so well. And it has the best voice acting in an FF game: Kefka's evil laugh!

Finally, the graphics. Believe it or not, FFVI still has the best graphics for a game in my opinion. This was the very talented Yoshitaka Amano's final game as the character designer, and he truly went out with a bang. Both the official and in-game art is brilliantly done, and many of the pictures of the characters could double as true works of art that could be displayed in museums. And the artwork was copied brilliantly into pixels in the game. Newer games seem to have more of a cartoony look, but this is just pure art. Also, the backgrounds truly pushed the SNES to the limit, and showed that Picasso or Cezanne might as well have dont it.

So, there you have it. Why FFVI is the best in the series. -CSM

Well. There is various numbers of reasons why this is my favorite.

It is my first rpg. It but stories into the characters with their own theme. These were the most best characters through out the series.
Cefca was the best villian imo. His evil laugh was the best too... Muwahahahahahaha..... But I like Cefca better than Kefka. Cefca cusses alot and stuff. Kefka is corney. Even though they are the same characters. Japanese rocks!

The music was possibly the best out of the series. It was simple, yet complex. The story was nice too. Magik/Magitek armor was possibly the most creative thing to come. (FFVII motorcycle... Not very creative.)

It was my first Final Fantasy I ever played, and the story was also one of my all-time favorites. Not to mention how each character was diverse besides weapon choices and limit breaks.

Unfortunatly, this game is my second favorite. But the reason that I love it is because of the character development. It may not be the most epic, but the characters were my favorite of all of them. I also loved the music of the game. I'm trying to get my friend to play the game, but his appriciation of games under 64 bits is a bit lacking.

Well, like most other games I like, it just quite simply charms me and I don't see how it couldn't. The music is top notch and fitting, the graphics are pleasant and have some very nice touches to them, the gameplay is 'customizable' yet flowing and the world is really quite expansive.

The overall story is good and does its job but I have some minor issues with it, mainly having to do with loose ends that were never tied. Howevever, I loved the character development as all of the lead roles felt interestingly unique and quirky yet easily relatable.

So aside from a little lack of final polish (the loose ends I mentioned earlier and the many, many, bugs) everything is executed just about near perfectly. It's pretty much just as simple as that.

This game, to me, represents Final Fantasy as it was meant to be played.

Best soundtrack in the series. War of the Magi stands alone as Uematsu's best work. Every theme song is beautiful, and I have only to hear a single note of any character's theme, and their picture pops into my head. It's so evocative, and it sounds good orchestrated or digitized.

Second best ability/job system to date. I've never been too thrilled about letting everyone summon or cast magic, but your characters have jobs, and they learn abilities that advance them IN THAT JOB. Cyan is a Knight, and he learns sword techniques. Sabin is a Monk, and he learns new ways to convert ass into hamburger. Strago is a Blue Mage, and he learns Blue Magic.

Excellent storyline. Everyone helps to advance the storyline in their own way, and there's a good deal of character synergy. Kefka is a bad guy, and he has more to answer for than any other villain in the series. Everything in the storyline feels significant...not like chasing some fool around Wutai getting your materia back.

I'm going to have to stop myself before I write an essay. Let's just say for now, that it has the best soundtrack, one of the best stories, one of the best ability/job systems, and the best characters. That's why FF6 is, and probably will remain, my favorite.

i like the music
i like the characters

mainly among other final fantasy games, ff6 has most summons (dunno about the new ones eh.gif )
plus magic system isn't weird like ff8 (although junction system? forgot what it was called, was nice).

good story.

One of the biggest reason is flow of the game. That's probaly one reason why i it over ff7 cool.gif

FFVI is an absolute work of art. It's clearly an out of the ordinary video game.

The music is superb - every tune perfectly matches the charaters and the scenes.

The creators did a great job in bringing the characters to life. They portray loneliness, misery, humor, triumph, and many other human emotions that affect the person who is playing the game.

Great storyline - can be made into a Lord of the Rings type of movie. Also, how many video games do you know of where the villian actualy DOES destroy thee world??

Enjoyable game play.

The music, story, blah blah blah everything everyone else said all pretty much applies (and I haven't even finished it yet!) but for me, the characters are the biggest thing. Each individual character was interesting in their own way, and they manage to make you actually care about them. Cyan and the tragedy of Doma... Terra and her Esper heritage... Locke and his past with Rachel... each character has an engrossing story behind them, and from this they develop throughout the game in ways that set FFVI apart from many RPGs. This is certainly my favorite Final Fantasy, and possibly my favorite RPG of all time (though it does have to compete with Skies of Arcadia Legends, one of my greatest loves wub.gif ).

I think I posted this long ago, but oh well just making sure..

I loved FFVI, but sadly it is not my favorite Final Fantasy. I used to like it the best but once I beat FFV and FFIIIj, I actually preferred those two over FFVI in terms of gameplay and difficulty.

I admit that the characters were very contributive and memorable, just as much as FF2, FF4, FF5, and FF9 were.

My overall favorite character is Locke for two reasons: First, he steals, which is the same hobby as I often do. Second, he does all he can to spend time with Rachel alive. FFVI was the first FF to change my life and I found it mega superior to Final Fantasy VII and above.

Now, for gameplay reasons, I did like the battlesystem and the relics system. It was like purchasing Final Fantasy V abilities from stores. The ATB gauge was quite a disappointment to me however.. Since I am commonly used to FFV, I actually prefer gauges that freeze. Because this way, you cannot cheat with the Wait command.

In FFVI, FFVII, and FFIX, the ATB gauge freezes while you access the Items or Spells command while Wait is turned on. If you go to a submenu in battle while an ally attacks, all of the gauges will instead freeze up but the attacker keeps on attacking, which is called cheating. That is why I choose Active gauge instead. It's alot funner, but not my favorite.

The game was obviously easy. Valiant Knife can deal over 9999 damage already even when Lock or any other character that equips Merit Award relic is at level 70-75. Vanish + Doom/X-Zone = coward.

Magicite system made Terra, Celes, Relm, and Strago very useless. I am not much of a fan of characters with initial jobs like FFIV and FFIX, but FFVI does it the wrong way with this system which I don't use anymore. If this game had basic characters like FFIIIj or FFV, then I would consider using Magicite. I never really summoned much Espers because you could only use one per battle and you can't have equal espers.

Graphics and music were actually quite amazing. I actually prefered FFVI's graphics over FFVII, FFVIII, FFT, FFIX, FFX, FFX-2, FFXI, and FFXII anyday, anytime. I don't want 3D graphics. 3D spoils people, which was a phase I went through while I played FFVII, FFT, FFVIII and FFIX.

If I had never heard of FFVI and it's predecessors, I would have been playing FFX-2 on the PS2, which is something I wouldn't enjoy playing through. (Playing through a plot without the freedom of exploring the world while the story progresses) FFVI is one of my heroes that motivated me to play on the SNES again and forget about the PlayStation. Thank you, Squaresoft.

But overall, FFVI was a glorious Final Fantasy game to me. I will never forget its charmful characters and its replayable battlesystem. Even its soundtracks are my favorite as much as I liked FFV's.

God bless the classics and the crystals.

This is really my favorite Final fantasy, was my second Final fantasy, I ve payed first The mistyc Quest, and it's still my favorite Game, i could play it forever again and again and again until someone take me to the siquiatric hospital...
I saw the other Ff games and in Final fantasy VI the graphics was really good to the time it was released, the music, the bosses design, all the game was a shock since the first time I played it. It's my favorite because of the story, and the characters, everyone had a different and very well especified "life and past" and because sometimes I can turn myself into a cry baby and the game touched me with allthe tragedy and the charcters trying to save the world at the sametime they solve their own lifes...
Really cool

At the time I first played it, I just liked it. It was great fun, and I knew what I was doing because of how often I'd played it.

Now when I play it, I really like the whole "We can do anything!" feel, and the townscapes are really pretty.

...
And that it's a musical masterpiece with excellent graphics, a solid storyline, and all that jazz. Yes, that has an impact on why I still play it.

It was my first RPG. I had rented FFIV (FF2-US) previously but for whatever reason did not get into it. The main thing I love about FFVI over other RPGs is the depth of the characters. They were so varied in interests and yet unified for the same reasons (mainly grief and loss). I just found myself sucked into the game from the very beginning. Also the odd supporting characters in the game were excellent. Leo and Ultros...even Siegfried and all of that strangeness. It had an odd choice of a villain in Kefka who wasn't just a menacing looking baddie like the villains in other FFs but was truly just an insane right-hand-man.

Oh, yes, and there were no crystals...anywhere (well...I guess you could count Espers).

I could go on and on in this unintelligible fashion because there som many reason varied and sundry why this is my favorite RPG.

The reason I like this game is because it was the first RPG game that I ever played. It was FFVI that got me hooked on FF forever. This game changed my life and showed me something I was missing out on. The graphic were so awesome for a SNES game! Hardly any of the SNES games look this good and are this exciting. Great character, great music, magic, attack, and super killer specials. This is how I would rank this game (for SNES games everywhere):

Gameplay 10/10- Had a very good story line and a very long one too (makes it even better) and game I recommend, HIGHLY!

Graphics 10/10- Had some amazing graphics for an SNES game and great hormonious designs.

Sound 11/10- Every song or piece of music that went on in the game PERFECTLY match every script and place they were at that time.

Overall oo/10- A exceptional game that you should play, or you are crazy and don't know what good games are. Just kidding about that last sentence.LOL
