Where do you all usually level before entering the Floating Continent? I'm levels 20-24, and I got slaughtered when I got there. So, any help would be nice.

Solitary Island. If you have magic, you're golden!

Random battles in general. I never had to power-level to get myself ready for any part of the game, which of course shows that Square planned out the experience levels and difficulty pretty darn well. All I really had to do was fight about 99% of all the battles I ran into.
Occasionally, I'd go and battle things on Triangle Island just for magic points, but Leafers give negligible experience and Intangirs give none. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. Too late to do it now, but a good tactic to do for replay, is the old raft trick. Powerleveling with the turbo button and command memory. I feel so cheap when I do it, but it sure does make things run more smoothly.
However, I wouldn't suggest this to anyone their first run through, seeing as though it does reduce the challenge of the game significantly if you level up to +30 for this part of the game. |

ya, the first time i played ff6 my friend let me borrow his and he told me about the raft trick. I left it on when i went to bed. well i forgot about it and a couple days later my guys were all lvl 99. it made the game way to easy.

Have everybody in the back row. Then use Shadow's Throw command, Edgar tools ( which they work pretty good), Cyan's dispatch is also useful here. Also if you encounter a Dragon, run...he might likely kill you. Also careful while opening a chest in there, there is a Gigantos in some treasure box which is a big problem, unless you cast Vanish on that fight. Anyway, be on the back row. That helps a lot.

I actually beat the World of Balance at level nine. All it takes is a lucky battle with Atma Weapon and having Gay learn a Rage from a Monster in the Magic Tech faculty. It’s a monster that looks something like one of the monsters you fought around South Figaro.
Ironically this monster from the faculty casts Life 3 and the only battle that seems impossible to beat unless leveled up enough is the large gun machines you fight going to the Floating Continent. Most of your party will be wiped out by Gau will constantly cast Life 3 on himself and give a strong attack. A nice little tactic I came up with when I was eight years old. I never liked leveling up when I was smaller. When I think about it, only that one small island could you somewhat level up decently but it takes forever to win that battle unless you use one of the game glitches. -------------------- His Divine Shadow |

I never really had to level up either throughout the first part of the game, mainly as Glenn said because well, all those random encounters did the job for me *Laughs*
But really though, just go to a place with a lot of random encounters, perhaps a cave, and you should do just fine. ![]() -------------------- Care to meet the goggled wolfie? Feel free to give me a yell (specially if ya like to rp a bit!) |

Actually something I did: I ran from every random encounter ninja up there, and took on the re dragons as long as i started the battle with full health.

Depending on who you want to take to the continent with you, I suggest leveling up two people a party before then, that way more experience is aimed at the two. Preferably, I also like to level up Celes, Sabin, Edgar and Setzer here since they are the first full party encountered in the WoR. A good place to do this is near Thamasa, where the enemies are the strongest before the continent (Or the cave Strago takes you to).

Sometimes I go to the Solitary Island, but most of the time I don't bother levelling up in the WoB or just go to wherever my fancy takes me

I usually level on the floating continent. More important than where you level is how you level. I don't like the Lete River 'trick' because it only gives basic levels--HP and MP. If you really want to be more powerful, pay attention to who has what esper not for learning spells, but for getting the stat bonuses. I rotate the +2 stat bonuses among my people so that the person gaining the next level is equipped with the esper that gives them a better stat; if necessary, I even kill people off to get enough experience between levels for different characters so two people won't level at the same time. If you do this from the first time you get espers, you should be in pretty good shape to continue to level on the floating continent.
Also, notice that when your party gets KOed, you keep levels that you've gained, but you do not keep esper stat increases. So don't get KOed. -------------------- Veni, vidi, dormivi. |

The floating continent is a good choice. As karasuman said, try not to gain empty levels - equip Bismark and the other +2 espers before every level. I tend to avoid levelling early for that very reason.
FF6 is an easy game when you're levelled properly. During my last playthrough I kept the levels very low and enjoyed a good challenge. It's amazing how much I learned about strategy nearly 10 years after playing it for the first time... I'm usually the first to level up like crazy. -------------------- Lou: There's a couple of guys fighting down at the aquarium, Chief. Wiggum: Do they still sell those frozen bananas?
