Torrid is only for fat women, if memory serves. And Hot Topic becomes less accomidating after a certain size. You'd probably be better finding some other sort of specialty shop that's local. Around here we've got Metal Devastation, locally owned, specialty store for everything Heavy Metal.
If you wanted to order online, there's this site: http://www.vampire.co.uk/acatalog/ I'll warn you now though, some of the pages have some 'skin' on them. Like the undergarment stuff. -------------------- This one time I punched a bear in the forehead TO DEATH! I still have the scars on my chest. I am the manliest man that ever did man. You make me sick. Freaking poser. You should be ashamed to go out in daylight. Oh, and by the way, "goths" haven't existed for hundreds of years, buddy.

If I saw you in public dressed like that, I'd laugh at you. Nothing personal.... I'd laugh at any goth.
![]() Still, I wouldn't let you *see* me laughing at you, and I'd never rip you personally. I think goth looks a tad silly, but to each his own. You might very well feel that my clothing looks ridiculous, too, and you are more than entitled to your opinion. Hey! I just had a great idea.... Let's meet for a cup of coffee sometime, yo. You dress up in your most gothic-type clothes you can find, and I'll get my prep on and dig up a polo shirt and pop the collar on it. We'll find the most swanky coffehouse we can find, full of beatnik hippies, and stay there for hours! We can break down all kinds of stereotypes! ![]() -------------------- Join the Army, see the world, meet interesting people - and kill them. ~Pacifist Badge, 1978 |

Maybe it's because i'm a metal head, but really, I can't see the outfit you described as 'goth'. Not that I honestly even believe in stereotyping people, I just do it for fun once in a while.
Really though, Black Sabbath as a part of a Goth set up? Dark doesn't necessarily mean Gothic. I'd suggest a Goth or Black Metal band for something like that. The qualifications to make someone goth are still a bit unclear to me, I just know what people have used to generalize me as a drone: Multiple piercings, dyed hair, I always wear all black. I don't have a goth haircut, though. And I don't wear eyeliner, i'm also not as pasty as I could be. Unless you've got no ability to be different though, there's no sense in just conforming to another groups ideals of fashion. To quote Southpark: "I'm so nonconformist i'm not conforming to your ways of nonconforming" Doesn't it just seem ridiculous after a while? 'sides, if you really are remotely scary or disgusting, you should be able to be so regardless of your clique. -------------------- This one time I punched a bear in the forehead TO DEATH! You know, Ebay works wonders for anything, even odd goth-style clothing.
That's where I used to pick my stuff up when I was on that trip a few years back, especially because otherwise, it can get a tad expensive. By my definition though, baggy pants and band t-shirts isn't very gothic, I mean, where's the leather? The fishnet? The spikes and eyeliner? What you described sounds a lot more like the standard metal head look, more than anything. -------------------- Okay, but there was a goat! |

This thread makes me laugh. His style is not goth, which does include types such as romantic [me] which is a lot of lace and velvet; cyber, which is like raver but less rainbow; 'mad-max', which is totally cool and very industrial oriented, and of course you have the bondage vampyres which dress in public the way they should really keep in the bedroom. But goth itself is more defined by the music than fashion. Most of the Manson/NIN fans with baggy black pants and black band tees aren't goth, they're just spooky kids. A teenager who'll grow out of the need to display how different and depressed and scary they are by the time they're 18.
But, I do suggest trying Ebay, since finding interesting clothing in plus sizes is very hard. A lot of the styles at Torrid can be worn by men; just because it says women's doesn't limit you. Baggy bondage pants are baggy bondage pants. I think, though, you should worry less about scaring people and just finding a style that you're comfortable with. I hear so much about how people set out to spook people on the street then whine how they have no friends. I hope you don't fall into that. -------------------- The first duty in life is to assume a pose, and the second duty is...well, no one's found out yet. |

All of these suggestions have been most helpful and i think some of you might be right about me confusing metal head with goth but oh well. And Hamedo if youre ever in the Northern Minnesota area Id be happy to have a cup of coffee. Theres a place called Brewed Awakenings and the have a great double cappuchino. Black Sabbath was just something i threw out there. Yeah i know there not very goth so ill have to go with Demons and Wizards or something eh? Ill have to check out Ebay and Torrid. Thanks again.

Demons and Wizards is Power Metal. I'm telling you dude, go for a Goth band, or a Black Metal Band. Otherwise you're going for a pretty straight out Metal Head outfit. Get some fetish clothes or sommat. Black, Heavy Metal T-Shirt + Black Pants, Baggy, Chained, or what not = Metal Head. You'll notice most Metal Heads wear at least one chain of some sort.
Here, I'll make it easy for you to pick a band: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goth_metal This post has been edited by Zero_Hawk on 27th February 2006 22:23 -------------------- This one time I punched a bear in the forehead TO DEATH! Thanks once again ZH. A lot of reading but very informative. I live in a small town (pop. 7000 +/-) and metal heads and goth alike get thrown into the same catagory so you might be able to see how someone could confuse the two. Ill hold off on the assless chaps till i drop about 125 lbs or so, till then the world is safe lol.
