(well, i guess there might be a thread on SO, so you know the drill, merge 'em if neccessary.tongue.gif)

so is anyone else here a fan of Star Ocean? i need to find a copy of second story, but i do own till the end of time and have a rom of fantastic space oddysey. (i might look for a rom of blue sphere, unless that was released in the u.s.)

i just really like the story of all the games overall (since there is a sort of a timeline.)and i dont really hate the plot twist in TTEOT. (everyone else seems to, i dont know why..) i like the music, and how they can be very challenging once you unlock the harder difficulty levels. (i know second story and TTEOT have those, but i dont think the first one does...)

Blue Sphere wasn't released in America.

I love Star Ocean! Second Star Story's cute, I really liked it. You can cook! XD

I thought Second Story was a great game, even though I quit playing around the second disc. I bought TTEOT hoping that it had the same kinetic energy that the other one had, but it was kind of boring and I moved on to different games rather quickly after playing it. I usually don't get so listless and eager to play something else like that, but having to run clear across the world over and over was rather fatiguing. I'll give it another shot once I forget how little fun I had.

Also, SO3 ruined SO2's inventing. Tsk, tsk.

I liked the original, but thought it was a little too ambitious and the fighting system was unrefined. I also haven't finished it yet, having just met Tinek (I had to reject him after fighting him, though, because I already had eight characters). The Second Story had the best story and characters, the best creation/skill/talent system (TteoT really wacked it up), and was the most fun overall. Till the end of Time had a really weird story and style, but the battle system is among the best I have ever seen in an RPG and it was also the best Star Ocean both visually and musically - it really had tons of potential, but ultimately wasn't as good as its predecessors. I own both TSS and TteoT, but I haven't played Blue Sphere.

My favorite in the series is still The Second Story, but I thought that Till the end of Time was promising, in that its battle system was really awesome - if they can listen to criticism and deliver a better story and presentation to the next Star Ocean then they could have a breakout game for the series on their hands, sort of how Tales of Symphonia brought its series further mainstream.

Star ocean has to be one of my favorite RPG series of all time. It had as much diversity as a MMO when it came to non-story related stuff (i.e. cooking).

My favorite of the series is Second Story. Im going through a replay, chose Claude as the main and got Ashton. In the second CD where

... and got myself involved in Half-Life 2. Ill get back to it eventually For some reason i can't play the first on any emulator, and the third had good gameplay but i disliked the main character. (im really getting tired of the whiney hero theme).

The best accessory in that game has to be the bunny shoes tough shifty.gif

I loved second story. The ability to custumize your pary throughout the game and the ability to make items puts it on my top 5 list. Its battle system was also innovative.

Played em all except Blue Sphere.

I liked Second Story, probably the best of em. Almost all the characters are awesome, unique in some way in combat and non-combat. Following exceptions: Claude, Rena, Dias and Ernest.

Till the End of Time was very cool. Characters run fast in that game! Whee! Combat is more fun in this one then in Second Story. The best thing about this is the mostly atroucious or ho-hum voice acting.

I mean, if my father died, after I learned he expirmented on me, I'd be ticked. I'd let the world know, instead of 'uwaa.' Worst primal scream ever.
Although it had Nel, the coolest character in the entire series.

The first one was alright, but I never got into it like I did the others. WAY too much backtracking.

I'm just being curious here, but did you get far enough to Fun City and bet in the track area for the Bunny Shoes? Or the Survival mode of the Fighting Arena? (once you get the bunny shoes, you'll be suprised how you survived w/o them).

I do have a few questions though. Because the story gets extremely long, I never really got off the second underdeveloped planet (>.<). I heard from my friend's online friends that the story really gets interesting after that point. Is this true?
Also, do you keep Nel after that planet, because so far she is my favorite character (:-D)

Later, after a extreme plot twist you'll either hate or love, You'll have the chance to get one more Elicooran to join your party, or another character will join your party. And, you could get one more of them to join, or a different character.

Oh screw it, here's a list: SPOILERS?

Possible spoilers: highlight to view
Before Crosell:

Albel (who you should totally get)- When Albel temporarily joins your party, go to the inn in Peterny. When he asks you if you hate him , say "Not really".

Roger- Go to Surferio, and go through an event there. (In that little thing where three houses are connected...I hope that makes sense.

Nel- Joins If you didn't do either of the above.

During the event in the Kirlsa Training Facility, one of the above will join you.

Moonbase:

To get another Elicooran to join your party, you must say no, and not have Peppita (Souffle) join your party.

Gemity: When you can go back to Elicoor, provided you didn't recruit Peppita, you can get another Elicooran.

Albel- Go to Walter's estate in Kirlsa, and talk to him. Then, go to the Urssa Lava Caves. You must fight Albel one-on-one , with Fate. If you win, you can have him join your party. (But he gets stronger as the story progresses, and drops better items, so it's up to you.)

Nel- Go to her room in Aquaria Castle (that's the name right?), and when she asks you to talk to her, say "We don't have time right now". She will join. (And Nel is awesome!).

And Roger: Um...That's the only one I don't know off the top of my head. I'll go read a guide and look for him...

Note: Mirage and Adlai (Adray) will take up the final two character slots. Always, by the time you go to Mosel again. If you got Adray in Disc One, he'll come (and you have no choice unfortunately..) when you go to Mosel again. If you didn't , he'll join .. I think when you go to Kaddan again. Well, I don't know anyone who actually likes him anyway.

I hope that helps.thumbup.gif

And I thought that the story was pretty awesome after that, but that's my opinion...

The first Star Ocean game I played was Star Ocean: The Second Story after a friend happened to let me borrow it - telling me that it was her favorite game of all time. I actually did enjoy it quite a lot, so I managed to get my hands on the very first Star Ocean game. I think I like that a lot more than the second game, but I have yet to finish it. Overall, the series is one of my favorites, possibly even surpassing the Final Fantasy series.

I have yet to play Star Ocean: Til the End of Time though. I can't find it for sale anywhere. But from what I hear, it's supposedly better than the first two combined, so hopefully it won't disappoint me TOO much.

Well, it is a greatest hits. You should be able to find it at any store that specializes in games. Or you could order it...or...something. I dunno. It can't be too hard to get.
