If you think there is one best monster:
What monster is it?
What are all its abiltys?
Why is it the best for you?
where is it found?

You do not need to anser all of these!

I also say the Ultima Demon, worthy enough to fight with the Holy Angel Ajora herself at the Graveyard of Airships.

It really depends on what you mean by best monster. While cool, the Ultima Demons aren't all that powerful. Low HP means that any Behemoth, Hydra, Red Chocobo will certainly survive its attacks and be able to dispatch of them rather quickly.

I'd say the best monster is actually the Red Chocobo.

1. Awesome speed
2. Awesome move
3. Unblockable ranged attack

I have to agree, the Red Chocobo is probably the best "monster" in my books, I mean, they were, as mentioned, quick, strong, chock full of annoyingly powerful abilities and had quite a range on them. That and when they came in packs? It was always an epic in terms of frustration, game overs and hair-pulling.

I never had much of a problem with Ultima Demons.

I really think I might have to change my avatar one of these days.

Man, nothin' can be Squidlarkins!

...

Only joking. As far as 'best' goes, the third and final class in the monster families are usually the best. As much as I hate 'em, Tiamats are just monsters on the battlefield, and they get more changes per turn to hit enemies, so those instances when a hypothetical monster is left with some HP left over, they might just be able to kill it outright on the second or third attack. I always found Black Chocobos and Mindflares to be the most annoying, though...Vampires, too, a bit.

They could probably take down a Tiamat (well...not all monsters) with a bit of luck, but Tiamats are at the top of the food and every other chain you can think of, as far as I'm concerned.

Shotgunnova beat me to it. Bariaus Hill random encounters once you reach level 99 take on a whole new meaning when you see a Tiamat or two.... pinch.gif

Two...or four...

Yeah, that Bariaus Hill uber-monster battle makes a guy wish that the game had an escape system programmed in. A Chantage + Perma-invisible character doesn't make it too hard, though, but that setup isn't party line (PUN'D) usually.

I did a battle just the otherday at Bariaus Hill with ONLY Ramza (no other characters) and it ended up being Him Vs. 3 Behemoths 3 Tiamats and 2 dragons, Luckily i had a Tiamat and Black Chocobo Guest.

As for the monster thats given me the most trouble throughout the game, i would have to say the black chocobo, because i tend to hang around Mandalia plains alot to level up my Characters, and when heading into the plains from the Theives Fort, sometimes I encounter (a lot) of them, and in Close range. The thing about Black Chocobos is, they maybe weak, and easy enough to kill, but if they get First strike with those choco balls... it can hurt...

As for those Tiamat's though, they can be a pain too, but whenever ive tryed using one myself, There attacks always seem to fail miserabley.
So although they are a pain to fight, they arent the best to use as allies IMO.

Not to sound cliche, but since I cant really decide one what I feel is the best Monster, Im just going to have to go with the Normal Chocobos biggrin.gif

Decent attack, great movement rate, and they can heal...

No other monster in the game has been able to prolong a battle longer, or frustrate me more, then that stupid (curing) chocobo...

The Tiamats are devastating foes, but with an ally with Monster Skill support ability, the Red Chocobo can, indeed, qualify for best monster because of their tremendous speed and power and their Monster Skill ability is, I believe, Choco Cure, giving them the ability to heal (as long as their right next to someone with Monster Skill). I, also, wouldn't underestimate the Behemoth monsters strictly because, unlike others, they have an instant death attack. My favorite monsters would the Skeleton class, but I wouldn't put them on the list as being the best because they're undead and have mediocre stats at best, but they're elemental soul attacks can hurt.

Behemoths are extremely powerful with or without monster skill. No other monster can match their strength on a single hit, on a single foe (since hitting 3 enemies with triple attack is much better).

Giga flare has an above average strength, so i never use it. Hurricane's hit rate is not too good but it instantly wipes 34% or max HP in a large range. And the unbeatable Ulmaguest; Shock compared to Ulmaguest is like as frog against a Bull Demon.
