I'm just thinking, as I play through the game, that a bunch of my characters don't really Fight that often; their non-MP abilities are just too powerful. This seems to almost disproportionately effect the ones who SHOULD be doing the fighting. So, ignoring magic
Locke: Steal more often than anything else Edgar: Early, autocrossbow, middle drill, late chainsaw. Sabin: Pummel just seems like fight +. And then there's bum rush. Cyan: Dispatch - no delay, no buttons, you can even turbo/memory Gau/Umaro: not even an option, plus no weapons. Shadow: Shruiken Gogo: Any of the above. On top of that, Relm and Strago don't have useful 'fights'. So other than endgame's Illumina/Atma Weapon era, you're left with Terra, Celes, Setzer, and Mog, right? -------------------- I hear the jury's still out on...science. Putting a genji glove on Strago with two elemental rods makes for a rather powerful character. And what happens if you run out of shruikens for Shadow?

i can't see anyone spending so long in an area without going to an Inn or somethin that they would run out of Shurikens. i don't really fight that much. i fight to lvl up as much as needed, but not to some huge ammount.

though i dont disagree that many of the characters have some awesome non-fight abilities, my strategy is so sloppy sometimes, and i make them fight a whole lot more often than i should. i really like using hte abilities, but most battles are just a waste of time, so why worry about it?

Early game, some of the physicals use their abilities more often, such as Cyan's Dispatch and Shadow's Shuriken. Hoever, later on, you'll see that the abilities pale caompared to their physical attacks.
Which, in tirn, pale to a good Ultima... |

Hrm...
Locke: Steal Terra: Fight (Magic/Morph at Boss characters) Edgar: Fight until items stolen, then Autocrosssbow Sabin: Aurabolt, then Bum Rush BANON: Health Celes: Fight (Magic at bosses) Cyan: Quadra Slam/Slice, or fight. Gau: M-Tek armor, Pearl Dragon Mog: Dance (Water Rhondo) Shadow: Fight, or shuriken Strago: Fight Relm: Fight Gogo: Bum Rush Umaro: Equip both character-specific relics on him Setzer: Slots Hmm... Strago and Relm don't really count because I use them the least, and Gau and Umaro don't really count either because they do their own thing. So... I use it a lot less than I thought. (why the hell am i teaching them all the magic before I finish teh game?!) Edit I am ashamed... i forgot Setzer... I use the FIGHT command exclusively for most characters, especially in later FF's, but with the exception of Cyan and Edgar, FIGHT gets used very frequently

This is the game that I use fight the least, I guess, but I still use it a lot. Locke sometimes does steal/capture, and Edgar uses tools almost all the time, but blitzes are too hard to pull off, and swordtechs cease to be worth it about halfway through the game.

I Fight probably 90% of the time. I have a habit of levelling excessively, and playing on an emulator means I can power through tedious battles using frameskip and holding in 'A'.

Unless it's a real hard fight for whatever reason, I mainly Fight. Though lately, having attained True Knowledge of Final Fantasy III (exaggeration, relax man) I've been using other people's stuff.
-Cyan's swordtech doesn't rely on his weapon. So you can just use Dispatch all the time. -Sabin's blitz ignores row. Put him in the back and go nuts. -Elemental rods are pretty good. No need for Gradeus or Swordbreakers. -Shadow's Throw. Shuriken are 30 a pop. 2970 for 99. You can buy em when you first get him easy. -Magic trumps all. ALL. Even without Ultima or Meteor or Merton. There's other stuff that's been changing my mind about Fight, but it's common knowledge. Problem is that it's tedious sometimes. Fight is easier on the brain. -------------------- Really Random Quote of the Day: "Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war." - Richard M. Well, with the Genji Glove + Offering, you can kill anything with a simple X Fight command, does that count?
I usually stuck with fight for most random battles, and some of the harder stuff later on as well with that 8 hit trick. I used Edgar's chainsaw a lot, and Sabin's blitzes as well. I never used Setzer much, but if I did it's almost always slots. And I like either dancing or jumping with Mog. I'm also a big fan of Umaro, and he just does whatever the heck he wants to anyway. -------------------- I'm not buyin' anythin'! |

I usually use fight with people like Edgar and Cyan whose special abilities lose their usefulness. Tools are lacking in the WoR, though I usually like to give Edgar dragoon boots and a lance. Cyan does well with a gauntlet simply stabbing everything to death, Locke doesn't have much else he can do, and Shadow's fight is often times better then his throwing weapons.
