I use a combo of Songs (Cheer and Battle, with an occaisonal Nameless) and Dances (Slow and Nameless) while advancing my two Male Warrior troops with my Female Mages behind them.

for me it's kindof divide and conquer, since everyone has auto-potion they're pretty safe
i'll have beowulf move closest to the nearest enemy, cast don't act ramza moves around to get to the back cid shares the frontline with beowulf reis follows ramza to the back (kills off what he didn't kill) mustadio "the lancer" jumps on the last enemy to move beowulf will attack enemies, unless they are out of reach, or won't be killed in single hit cid busts out his crazy skills and kills what beowulf misses it's basically a pincer attack and all of them pretty much have no fear of magic, there atheists This post has been edited by Cloud_Strife510 on 11th April 2006 23:21 -------------------- "Have you ever seen a baby do that before?" |

My best method of winning is to render the enemies unable to fight, usually through death but occasionally through petrification.
![]() I always take the 5 with the lowest experience for the random battles, and with few exceptions I take Ramza and the 4 with lowest exp for story battles, so the tactics are always changing. -------------------- Wasabi Viniagrette: Mix 1/3 C rice vinegar, 2 Tbsp sesame oil, and 2 tsp powdered wasabi. I break enemies and impair them all in one fell swoop, so there's no second wind. For characters that cure/alleviate others, I berserk 'em; for characters I don't feel like dealing with, I petrify 'em; for offensive mages, I either just kill them outright when they're charging or hack away at their MP so they're useless; for speedy characters, I break/steal the weapons and their speed stat, then just do away with them.
Beowulf is a good character to lead the charge, but weird attacks like Space Storage and the like are also good once your win is almost assured. -------------------- It's gonna be a glorious day I feel my luck can change |

I do damage. More damage then they have hitpoints.
Uh, if you mean challenging fights, that'd be chapter one, and, usually, I handle any ranged attackers quickly while luring the enemy into a formation where my BM can score a decent AoE, then mop up with my charging front-line units. That's about it, really. More detail would be listing all the usual builds I have and the specific enemies. -------------------- |

I swarm all but one character with brute strength before I cripple and petrify the final enemy ( I think they look cooler when you petrify them on one knee...it's like they've sworn allegiance to me b/c I owned them)

I always take out or cripple the mages and ranged attackers first. Breaking or stealing bows and guns and silencing, MP attacking, or death to the mages. To alleviate the problem of powerhouses in the front line, use distance to cripple the mages and rangers, work over the powerhouses with whatever I like using, and finish what's leftover. For bosses, if it says to kill one particular boss, my team will gang up on the boss (i.e, kill Algus, Miluda, etc.) if I want a quick win or eliminate he party and save the target for last. I alter my strategy accordingly if I wanna' steal Elmdor's equipment or spell guns or Knight Swords. For specifics, Ramza is a frontline warrior and I use magic to take out big crowds from a distance. If I wanna' level up other characters, then Ramza'll Yell, Cheer Up, Accumulate, and Scream for Exp. and Jp. As for generics or special characters (depending on jobs) I use frontline tanks with beefed up power and defense and I use Lancers, Archers, and characters with crossbows or guns for aerial attacks and a distant onslaught and mages bring in the rear for magic usage. Keep in mind, that my strategy utilizes characters having alternate abilities for with which to give me the opportunity to alternate designated tactics for characters depending on different circumstances or if one of my characters pull up one in the casualty column.

I like whittling them down 'till there's but one standing alone... then turn him into a chicken! while the Chicken is running away my characters are gaining JP in some way. I usually give them all the basic skill when I'm doing this, then when I'm ready... BAM! 999 damage to the poor poultry.

Depends how strong they are. weak ones i just kill immediatly with my summoner, then i attack mages with my lancers, and finally my knights with the others to slaughter the remains. Sometimes i mess with them an let them kill themselves while everyone gains tons of JP & EXP and Gil.

My mom and I play this game together, actually.
I usually let her be the main character and a normal one, while I get three normal characters of my own. We each have our own strategies, and combining our attack styles, we usually conquer. I usually have My physical male character go up and attack the biggest threat, such as a chocobo or monks, and then my magical male character stays behind to heal or Bolt 'em. Lightning is the element I use most often, if it doesn't matter which. My female character changes, sometimes physical sometimes magical, but always offensive. My mom uses John or whatever she named the main character to kind of back up my main male, and her Sheila is generally a chemist or a white magic healer of some sort that stays behind and heals us. |

I get Ramza on my Black Chocobo and fly him around the backs of characters and use either Wave fist on human enemies or Repeating fist on monsters... Anyone else just walks around healing or fighting each other, doesn't really matter long as Ramza is alive, he's my main weapon

I like double casting sometimes on an enemy so that it deals good damage even tough I have short charge equipped.
Equipping evade stuff, Abandon are defend is a good initiative to guard mages or archers. Weapon guard can do earlier. But none beats the 8 movement ninja (germinas boosts & move +3), that can throw weapons from 8 squares of range. If you have a blood sword, it's always interesting to take a Knight and equip counter with it which makes him survive much longer. Oh well I have many strategies, just depends on my mood. Malak wih a Faith rod and Un-Truth plus Ying Yang Magic is fun too but harder if you don't cast pray faith on your enemies. It makes a little challenge on a 1v5-6. ![]() Edit Several typos... really I wonder how some of you were able to read this ![]() This post has been edited by Zodiac on 1st March 2006 13:47 -------------------- Sayonara |

It depends on where in the game I am and which characters I breing into the battle.
Early on, it's pretty much a "whatever I can do to stay well alive" tactic. Later, around chapter 3 or so, I focus on long range while I have two or three characters let the enemy come to them and have the others run so they can use more long range attacks. |

The best way to win is to complete as many random battles as you can possibly stand. And I'm not talking about fighting the enemies. The best way to level up is to clear out all the enemies except one, and incapacitate him somehow. I then usually set up simple scenarios or teams and duke it out between my own characters. This is by far the most effective way of leveling up that I have encountered, and this ensures that you don't really need so much of a strategy in the more challenging battles. You just plain dominate.
Of course, I would also recommend beating the game the traditional way, because developing a strategy is the main pat of the game (but if you get frustrated..) |

I have found that talk skill with monster talk is a very effective way to make free jp since even if the enemy has 1 brave, you still get the same jp for lowering their brave again. The most effective tactic I've seen is just plain speed. I have a Bard constantly singing Cheer Song, Ramza using Scream and Yell, Characters with time mage subjobs casting Haste. Short Charge also helps

I've got three ways to victory:
1: party of all mediator! Then all just run up to the nearest monster and convert. Let them all fight each other (if not all converted...) 2: Reis + Beowulf + Orlandu = 1 stoned enemy, 1 toasted enemy, and 3 demolished enemies. 3: Elemental Symphony: 5 mages, all casting flare at same time. Anyone ever got an insane battle like I did?! 4 Tiamat + 2 blue drag + 2 red drag + 4 Hydra vs. Reis + Orlandu + Ramza + Mustadio + Worker 8? All are on lvl 99, including the opponents! Easy.
- Hire a few soldiers as meat shields. Spread them out a little. - Find a relatively safe location. Use your meat shield to lure away the enemies and keep them from going there. - Send Ramza to the "safe spot." Keep using yell. - Let your meat shield die. They were fools to accept being hired by you anyways. ![]() - By the time the enemies have turned on Ramza, you should be able to get him to put a lot of distance between himself and their group. Keep yelling. - Yeah, keep yelling. - More. - I can't friggin' hear you! ARE YOU READY TO ROCK, IZLUDE?!! - SAY IT LOUDER! - Yeah, that's good. Enough yelling. Enemies are virtually perma-stopped now because of your insane speed. - Pick 'em apart one by one. Yell to spite them every once in a while. - If anyone from the meat-shield survived, rip out their hearts and eat them raw. To grow stronger. - Send the families of the deceased meat shield's components a severed finger and ask for ransom money. More gil = more meat-shield components. Hmm...Speed and power in equal components determines the victor...
or Kill those silly sub-human beasts and deluded power hungry mercs using the most ruthless and damaging spell available for example, Ice 4 on a golbin in the sweegy woods fight. I like to think that it makes a point. If all else fails, just send Ramza out in an insane state(i.e. max speed through yelling/screaming, max strength and berserk) and sit back and enjoy. I take my little magic corner (a calculator/bard, a black mage/dancer, and a monk/summoner), make my bard do cheer song and my dancer do slow dance while my dragoon jumps on everyone and ramza screams. then, when they slow up, i make my bard/dancer do nameless song/dance, and I summon away, while ramze goes in and attacks.

I don't think this game was really difficult enough to require 'tactics' per say. There were only a few battles where you should ever lose. (The 'terrible two' at Riovanes, which both have rather simple solutions to them, and maybe against Algus if you chose to underestimate him and not level) I think it's pretty simple, you just go out and kill the opponent as fast as you can using your most powerful units. I think that is where the true tactics lie, in building your units. Especially in the beginning of the game when you don't have all the powerful unique characters. But I'd say the best tactic is speed and accuracy. I'm not a fan of Knights at all because they're far too one-dimensional. Samurai, Lancers, Monks, and even a properly built Geomancer far outscore a knight in my opinion. Ninja's are also very effective. When it comes to mages, I generally only have one, that I use to master all of the magic jobs (including mediator and calculator). With Ramza, a ninja, the mage i just described, and any two character combination of either samurai, monks, or lancers is pretty much way too good to ever lose. The ninja solves your battle against Elmdor at the top of riovanes. And if your other characters are built powerfully, Wiegraf shouldn't be too much of a problem either.

My tactic has not failed me yet as the enemy never gets a single turn on me. Thanks to my ultimate team which exploits certain skills and allows me to always get the next turn.
Using the time mages reaction ability Critical Quick. I wil explain how it works. Ok, so the first guy goes and calculates CT:5:Fire. Since all three of my characters have CT equal to a factor of five both are hit. Here is the first interesting bit: the calculated fire spell does 0 damage since Faith is reduced to zero on all of them. This still counts as a hit tho so i get everyone to critical status very quickly and then i use this loop. the first calc cats CT:5:fire which hits all three of them for zero damage giving all of them quick status. The second perosn attacks or moves to atack the enemy then waits if he cant attack. then the third person cats CT:5:fire to put them all in quick status again. following this loop I can kill any team without letting them even get a turn. -------------------- Im smarter then you.
