What five games are the most profound for you? These can be either profound games in gameing history, or you personal five games.
My 5 most profound games (In order of me playing them): 1. Super Mario World (SNES):1st game that I owned 2. Legend of Zelda:Link's Awakening (GB):Game that introduced me to exploration 3. Earthbound (SNES):1st RPG 4. Final Fantasy VII (PS):1st Final Fantasy that I played (besides FF Legends, but I don't count that) 5. Final Fantasy VI (SNES Rom):Game that reintroduced me to 16-bit, and eventually introduced me to 8-bit games, plus game that introduced me to emulation, which allowed me to play such games. Edit When I say profound, I mean that it had an important impact on your gaming idea, that it changed how you, (or the world if you choose gameing history) look at games. For example, Link's Awakining is in my top five game list (It's good mind you) but it's on that list because at the age of five, I never knew games could involve such searching and exploring until then. It had an impact on how I felt with games because it most likely helped nuture my love for RPGs. This post has been edited by Barrylocke on 9th January 2006 13:24 -------------------- |

I'm confused, did you play a FFVI ROM before going back and buying SNES games?
Moderator Edit Not sure it's relevant to the topic, but... -R51 Sorry, to be abit clearer. You say FFVI introduced you 8 and 16 bit gaming. So I'm assuming you'd only ever played more modern games, untill playing FFVI, from which point you went back to playing older games like Mario and such? Hmmm, to me this would be a list too hard to put together. I'd have to really whittle down the definition of a 'profound' game so's not to attempt a simple 'top 5'. Which would be an impossible struggle. I think in overall terms of how much a video game was capable of gripping me and providing all the elements I enjoy in one package; 1. System Shock 2. In the terms of opening my eyes to how games could equal any other type of medium like film, photography, litrature etc, and even more so as I played it during the 'coming of age' period when these things started actually interesting me; 2. Final Fantasy VII. Thats about all I can muster off the top of my head. Like I said, I'd really have to think about the 'profoundness' issue and seperating it from 'favorite'. What I mean is that I used to play 16 bit games when I was younger, but I pretty much abandoned them after Playstation and N64 came out. About four years ago, I played the FFVI ROM, which introduced me to emulation. This subsquently reintroduced me to 16 bit gaming through emulation, as well as playing 8 bit games for the 1st time. I haven't bought any 16bit games for a long time, except for when I used to have a GBA.

Hm.. profound.
1. Metal Gear Solid (yeah, yeah, it is one of my favorites but whatever). 2. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Great game) 3. Metal Gear Solid 3 (another of my favorites) 4. Shadow of the Collossus (Awesome) 5. Final Fantasy IX (Yeah, another great one) Sure, those are all some of my favorite games but they were all epic and pretty profound I think. -------------------- "We're not tools of the government or anyone else. Profound? I still don't see where you're going with that adjective, chief. These five games are my five favorite games that I keep going back to and never hesitate to recommend to others.
1. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (PS1, though I've heard that the Saturn version's even better) 2. Chrono Trigger (SNES) 3. Skies of Arcadia (Dreamcast, thought the Gamecube version's almost as good, with a half-million extras) 4. Soul Calibur (Dreamcast, or arcade I guess) 5. Final Fantasy Tactics (PS1) I never make lists like these the same way twice, so Mega Man X, Final Fantasy VI, Tetris, Civilization II, Devil May Cry 3, and a ton of other games compete for my top five spots. Edit Karasuman, the main reason that the Saturn version of SOTN intrigues me so is the fact that Maria is a playable character. Also, I could be wrong, but weren't most PS1-Saturn ports better on the Saturn? I know for a fact that the Saturn version of Grandia is completely superior to the PS1 version, but it could just be an anomaly, I guess. I'm not sure what you mean by "profound." If you mean a game with a story so profound that you still keep talking about the symbolism and stuff, I can't come up with a whole lot. Everyone else is just answering favourites, so I guess I'll do that, too.
1. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. I keep wishing they'd come out with another game this awesome. From what I understand, the Saturn version has a few extra (redundant) items and (boring) areas, but major slow-down and crappy graphics, btw. 2. Final Fantasy X. I guess this kinda fits "profound." I was startled by the maturity of the plot, especially with the two major twists in about halfway and three-quarters through the game, respectively. 3. Final Fantasy IV. Awesome plot, awesome characters, and maybe "profound" in the sense that it set a new standard for console RPGs. 4. Evergrace. Sometimes things are "profound" in the sense that you can't figure out what the hell was going on. This isn't really one of my favourite games, but it was a lot of fun, even if the fragmented story is impossible to understand. 5. Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly. Good story. Very scary. -------------------- Veni, vidi, dormivi. |

1. Phantasy Star (Sega Master System): The first video game I ever played.
2. Phantasy Star II (Sega Genesis): One of my three all-time favorite video games . I was playin' it as I was goin' through elementary school and as I had a heck of a time tryin' ta put it down. The Sega Genesis eventually got old and although it still works to this day, it got obsolete if you will after we bought Sega Saturn an' Playstation. 3. Diablo (PC): My dad bought this game home the day it first came and he, my brother and I playin' LAN games at home on three different computer we have (I had the laptop) became a family tradition if you will. It got back into the RPG genre after I stopped playin' the Phantasy Star series on the old Genesis. 4. Final Fantasy VIII (Playstation): The second of my three all-time faves, this was my first console RPG after we bought the Playstation over a year or so after it came out. I'll still play this game in-between other games as this game never ceases to bore me with the awesome draw/junction battle system. 5. Final Fantasy Tactics (Playstation): Number 3 in my all-time faves. This game will NEVER get too old for me as I love the story and characters as well as the customizability. Of all those that I have listed, this game I play moreso 'cuz I don't have Phantasy Star anymore, Phantasy Star II no longer saves games, I never play Diablo as I play Diablo II: Lord of Destruction instead and I'm waiting until I can find another copy of FFVIII, then FFT and FFVIII I will always play for a time to come. I have a hard time of letting go of the classics. -------------------- "Thought I was dead, eh? Not until I fulfill my dream!" Seifer Almasy "The most important part of the story is the ending." 1.- Tactics Ogre/Final Fantasy Tactics
2.- Ogre Battle 64:Person of Lordly Caliber Since I was 11 years old, I wanted to have these games, I spent hours in stores waiting for the clerk to tell me that they didn't have those games. I tried to download them but there were only japanese versions of the game. I tried to buy them through eBay but my parents didn't let me...until finally in 2003 I got Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre for the PS1 (FFT as a disc and TO as a bios to be played in an emulator in my PC) and on 2005 I got Ogre Battle 64 as a ROM. The days I got those games, I was extremelly happy. 3.- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV:Turtles in Time: My fist game ever (also the first game i finished), I still have it. 4a.- Earthbound: The first RPG that really got my attention (my first RPG was Chrono Trigger but there were problems with the ROM so I didn't play it for long) 4b.- Chrono Cross, my first RPG in the PS1, because by the time I played it, I had stopped playing RPGs, but Chrono Cross gave me back the RPG spark I needed x_X 5.- Megaman 1: My first ROM. When I was 9 I started to download tons of games...unluckily I didn't knew how to use them. Through Trial and Mistake, I finally managed to play them and the first one was Megaman 1. Grandia 2- I really loved the plottwists and the world in general
![]() Final Fantasy VI- I could rant 'til I foam at the mouth at this game. Very few games have me beating it so many times. Chrono Trigger- Another blessing! I love it. It's especially youthful, and I could play it forever. Chrono Cross- An excellent game, with a good sense of humor and interesting characters ^.^ Edit And I'd like to add Secret of Mana, because I adored that game in every aspect, 'cause it was darling. ![]() This post has been edited by RelmArrowney on 8th January 2006 08:02 -------------------- You're telling me that there's no hope. Five most profound? Hmm.
1. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Sega Genesis) - First game I ever owned, first game I ever completed, the game that got me into gaming in general, the game that would have the largest influence on who I am today. 2. Chrono Trigger (SNES - in ROM form) - My first RPG, if you don't count Spiritual Warfare (ew). CT would eventually throw me into FF. 3. Final Fantasy III/VI (SNES - in ROM form) - My first FF, and my favorite of the whole FF series. I can see why it's such a classic. 4. Jet Grind Radio (Dreamcast) - One of my all-time favorite games. Just so differemnt, refeshing, and plain fun. *tags the post* Malag N was here! 5. Skies of Arcadia: Legends (GameCube) - Quite possibly one of my favorite RPGs. Classic, depth-filled, pirate fantasy adventure. Also the only 3D RPG I've played... at the moment. Wll probably change soon. 1.FINAL FANTASY VII- It was the game that introduced me to RPG gaming. I imedeatily started searching for the FF's before the seventh installment and eventualy played other great RPG's. Final Fantasy 7 will always be my favorite game of all time.
2.XENOGEARS- Quite frankly, the greatest game of ALL TIME. Xenogears was the last true OL SKOOL RPG. The ability to blend 2D graphics on a 3D enviroment was well done. Xenogears is the kind of game the you will enjoy even thought the graphics are pretty outdated. I can go on forever talking about the good things about this masterpiece of a game, one of which is the BEYOND ALL EPICNESS story the game unfolds. 3.SUPER MARIO BROS 3-The greates Mario game of all time, WHAT, WHAT YOU GONNA SAY?, don't give no 64 !poop, SMB 3 was the best ever. Nostalgia is all you can think of when you hear someone mention the tittle, SMB 3 had the memorable Airship final stages in every world, the WORL WARP FLUTE in World 1 and the other two in World 2, the oversized World 4, that stage in World 7 where you had to get the Invincibilty Star to run across deadly man eating plants, and the unforgetable last World 8, Bowser Land, WHOA!, that's alot of Mario! 4.MEGA MAN 2- This was the first blue bomber game I played ever, and eventualy I went to enjoy ALL of the others released afterwards. I stoped playing the NES games after the 5th installment was released on the NES, and started playing the new X series on the SNES and later on the psONE and PS2. One of the things that has made it posible for the series to continue is the mistery of what will be X fate, and what in the world happened to Proto Man?, that is one of the questions with out no answer of what could happened between the ORIGINAL series and the X series... "TIME TO GET SERIOUS!!..." >> POW Pow pow<< 5.RESIDENT EVIL- It was a breath of fresh air, even to this day I still enjoy playing the Resident Evil(s) from the psONE era. RE:Code Veronica X for PS2 was good, and back when the psONE was the bomb I got hooked on RE:Director's Cut, that was the ORIGINAL with a few new features. RE:Nemesis for psONE is my favorite, God I love that Assault Riffle! 5:Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind - I think thats the only time I've ever been glad to spend 400 hours staring at the back side of an orc, and guaranteed the only time with a smile on my face.
4: Star Ocean:The Second Story - The only game I've ever played while rotating between the Phantom of the Opera soundtrack and Juveniles 400 degreez cd. Man was that odd. 3: .Hack Series - Definately a different twist on classic rpg's. Good times. 2: Suikoden series - I've been playing them forever now it seems, yet I still can't wait for the next one to come and captivate me. 1:FF IV/VI/Tactics - IV and VI were a huge part of my life. From amazing storylines to Nobuo Uematsu's complete mastery over music, especially considering the severely limited software capabilities, I'm still entranced over a decade later. Tactics - Because the game has hands-down the single greatest storyline ever created. I mean, who else would've thought to take half the bible, add in a ton of insane plot twists, and turn it into a completely compelling and immersive game that demands to be replayed over and over again. -------------------- think you're a true rp dork - try it live action shifted lands |

1. Duck Hunt-It was the only time my mom would let me play with a toy gun. To me, it was the greatest game ever at the time because it allowed me to get away with things I couldn't in any other situation with my friends.
2. Bee-52-The first game I ever hated. It made me realise that they aren't all great, and the only one I've never finished for the fact that it irritated me so much. 3. Dragon Warrior- The first game that had me locked in my bedroom for an entire summer. Got it from my grandpa in Grade 7 in 1993 [I think the year was?], and he soon regretted it. 4. Final Fantasy 7- The first game that tore my heart and got me addicted because I cared about the characters and got emotionally attached to. 8 follows close behind because Squall was almost a complete clone of someone special in my life. And for the record, he had the boots before the game was even released! 5. Legend of Zelda Link to the Past- The first -and one of the few games- that I can be entertained simply by watching it being played from beginning to end by someone else, and never feel the need to pick up the controller myself. That is proof that some games are so excellent it's better than going to the movies.. honourable mention goes to Super-Bomberman, which kept me, my sister, and our two cousins locked in the basement for an entire summer. Who'd have thought that a game could occupy not one, but four kids for so long and never ever lose its novelty? -------------------- The first duty in life is to assume a pose, and the second duty is...well, no one's found out yet. |
