Okay, I guess I'm one of those weird people who has to know EXACTLY what to buy before making a purchase. Games are no exception.

I just got a Game Boy SP to upgrade from my original GBA. I am very pleased. However, I'm wanting some new games and I've been looking around on Amazon and such to see what's popular.

I'm willing to try a new RPG but I'm wanting to stay away from the Square FF remakes, simply because I'm just not interested in dishing out money for a game I can play someplace else, regardless of the upgraded graphics/dungeons/etc. I hear that Riviera and,...something Star Saga are good games.

Anyone know of any good GBA RPG's or simply good GBA games in general? I've been looking into WarioWare Twisted as well. When it comes to RPG's, I have both Golden Sun's and Phantasy Star Collection already.

Any opinions are appreciated. Thanks

Might I suggest Sword of Mana? It's got alot of RPG elements, and is a pretty good game. It is technically a remake of the really old FF Adventure, but it's not a Final Fantasy at all.

I heard alot of good things about the Fire Emblem, but it's not really my bag, may want to borrow it and give that a shot.

Unfortunately, my GBA is pretty much ignored for the most part.

If you like Tactical battle games, might I suggest Fire Emblem and/or Advance Wars. I enjoyed both of these, although I didn't care for FFTA

If you're looking for a strategic roleplaying game, attempt to find Tactics Ogre Gaiden: The Knight of Lodis. Great strategy, a delightful emblem system (for the classes, of course), and its no-nonsense plots arguably better than anything Golden Sun and FFTA can muster. It's hard to find, but if you can get your hands on it, it'll pay for itself in spades.

Well, looks like that topic's been closed, so I'll update my list here:

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance: excellent tactical RPG; you just need to keep track of stuff carefully, or maintain a smaller clan; just ignore the bad story, and enjoy the excellent music
Mega Man Zero: excellent if you like platforming games
Mega Man Battle Network: another excellent action/collectibles RPG; just make sure you keep track of your chips
Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance: non-linear exploration game with okay gameplay, great graphics, and controversial sound quality
Castlevania: Circle of the Moon: non-linear exploration game with okay gameplay, good graphics, and excellent music
Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow: non-linear exploration game with excellent gameplay, great graphics, and okay music
Metroid: Zero Mission: non-linear exploration game with great gameplay, great graphics, and excellent music
Metroid Fusion: non-linear exploration game with good gameplay, excellent graphics, and good music

As for non-GBA-specific (i.e., GB and GBC games):

Pokemon Crystal: why get gold/silver when you can get a bit more? plus, you can pretend you're your girlfriend/boyfriend if you feel bored.
Pokemon R/B/Y: the original Pokemon games still hold up well quality-wise, despite a few gameplay flaws
Pokemon TCG: music is less than great, but gameplay is fun if you can keep track of your deck
Donkey Kong (the game boy version): over 100 levels of REALLY fun puzzles. seriously.
Tail Gator: just a platforming game starring a crocodile/alligator that whacks its tail for a short-range attack. Go through four "areas" of about 15 levels to find your way home (or whatever; who cares what the plot is?)

Most of what's been mentioned is pretty good, except I have to say that Tactics Advance is a mixed bag, Sword of Mana isn't much fun, and I despise the Mega Man Battle Network series.

If you interested in the Castlevania GBA games then you might want to wait another two months, because Harmony and Aria are getting released on a single GBA cartridge sometime around then. I wholeheartedly recommend the Fire Emblem, Advance Wars, and Metroid GBA games, but I have four all-important games to add:

Final Fantasy I&II: Dawn of Souls - they softened up the challenge of the two games, but the visuals are rather excellent, the remixed audio is almost as nice, and the extra dungeons are entertaining enough.

Final Fantasy IV Advance - SO much fun. The Lunar Ruins and new playable endgame characters really add to the game's experience and strategy.

Gunstar Super Heroes - A welcome sequel to my favorite Genesis game of all time, this is one of those games that helps give Treasure its sterling reputation. The visuals are awesome, the action is an entertaining sort of combination of Metal Slug and Mega Man, and the plot is better than expected. It's kinda new though, so you might want to wait for a price drop.

Astro Boy: Omega Factor - This is probably the best GBA game since Fire Emblem 7. The action is absolutely delicious, the visuals are attractive if not quite as good as Gunstar's, and also serves as an unbelievable quantity of fanservice to fans of Tezuka. The replayability and extras featured in this game is also quite awesome, even more so than in Gunstar. This game, the two Gunstar games, and Ikaruga have caused me to hold Treasure in the highest esteem.

Well... I like Puyo Pop Fever. Puzzle game, which in my opinion is better than Tetris! Cute little blobs of fun fall from the sky and you make coloured chains out of them. In PPF you get the new Fever aspect of the game, where the music goes all crazy and you go onto a special screen where you can make, like 11 chains at a time! I haven't tried multiplayer yet (because nobody else I know owns this game). The voice-overs are annoying but the music is cool!

And, there's the Pokemon series. Always fun.

Riviera's pretty good, and definitely worth playing once, but it lacks replayability for me, even if there are multiple (I think five or six) endings. The artwork is nice, the voice acting is surprisingly good, and the plot is kind of generic but entertaining enough. It's an Atlus game, so it is extremely likely to never have a second release (I think that the only Atlus game of the past five years or so to receive a second release is Disgaea) - good luck finding it.

Sigma Star Saga was actually fun for awhile, but its shooting stages lack imagination (stick to the Treasure games I mentioned if you want a good sidescrolling shooter) and otherwise plays like a Zelda clone. I've heard that the plot gets really good, but I wasn't interested in it long enough to find out.

for RPGs, there pokemon emerald/redfire/greenleaf/. they have a wireless adapter included. there's also Megaman battle network series.
for action Dragon ball Z the legacy of Goku2 and Zelda: the minish cap.

I'd agree with playing Riviera, too. I played it for quite awhile and, though it had a different vibe and way of going through levels (near-platformer experience?), it didn't leave me feeling like I was short-changed. The weapon usage limitations are kind of weird to play with, but it's no big deal...just more strategy to deal with.

Can't forget Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. If you've played Paper Mario and Mario RPG, then you should definetly play this game. I also suggest Mario vs. Donkey Kong, but you might want to rent it cause it's short. Finally, you can't forget LoZ: Minish Cap, as well as Link to the Past, especially if you never played the SNES version of the game.

And I do second Golden Sun I&II, (I keep trying to tell my friend to play it, but for some reason he doesn't like the combat. He's only played 20 minutes into it, but what can you do.)

I would recomend that too. But if you do find one, it will be really expensive, mine cost me like, $40. It's better to just emulate it.

Mario kart for the GBA was an okay game( reminds me of really bad crackers though)

I tried LoZ: Minish cap, and it sucked. Try an emulation before you decide on that one, or rent it if you'd rather.

final fantasy tactics advance , practically no storryline butt itts fun to play and it will take a loooooong time to complete it ( it took me more than 100 houres!!!)
golden sun and golden sun the lost age are fun to play, i'm still playing them both

If you like nice games there is Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town. Its a cute game where you grow plants and develop relationships with the townsfolk. My name may be FinalFantasyFreak but I am also a Harvest Moon freak.

Since you already have the best two games on the system in my opinion (Golden Sun 1 & 2) I would most definetly have to suggest both fire emblems. They are more than awesome games, and will leave you wanting more.
