Well I'm almost done with the game, but I've been wondering...what the heck is namingway exactly? They aren't very clear on what he IS exactly. His family has a name, but is that the name of the 'species'? I've looked at his pixelated picture, and I have come to the conclusion that I have no idea what he is. He kind of looks like a moogle, or a Uribo even. Can anyone enlighten me on what namingway is exactly? wacko.gif

Have you been to the moon yet?

All answers lie on the moon.

Go, my son.

It looks sort of catlike. I think. He has such a horrible sprite and pallete image that I'm glad he didn't make it in any FF's past this one.

Yes I have been to the moon, I mentioned that I had seen...well you know. But it doesn't really clear anything up for me. Unless I missed something...*goes back to check*

Namingways aren't there for much more than to allow you to change your name. There's a small colony of them on the moon, which suggests that they're natively Lunarian, I suppose. I wouldn't read too much into the creatures, though. They don't have much mentioned history within the game.

That, and I don't like them very much, unless I'm buying elixirs from them.

One of my favourite people on CoN just happens to have a Namingway as his avatar. *smiles*

I hadn't really thought much about them as a species, but as Ronin mentioned, I guess they're a type of Lunarian. Their little tune that they hum is kinda nice. Of course when you're on the moon they're the Hummingway family, not Namingways.

I was interested in drawing one and that was part of the reason why I wanted a little more information on them. But it seems so far there isn't much on them to begin with, so they're open to interpretation.

Actually, he was in IX, once again serving the purpose of changing names. He had a card as well.

namingway (i thought it looked mor pig-like) is a little guy who feels he has to be the official name-changer, and therefore seeks life away from the hummingways which are found on the moon, and heads to a place he is needed where people care about their names

(hummingways: spritley beings who hum from dusk till dawn, and after the cows come home)

I'm thinking of concocting a piece of fan fic where Namingway is transfered via dimensional rifting to the world of FF I. He then embarks upon a vicious campain to rename everything to his liking... it may not end pretty for him though. ohmy.gif

WOO HOO! I've graduated to Mag Roader status. Nice!

If you notice, he is holding a book, has glasses and is wearing a turban with a jewel in it. I always thought it was a pig, but it could be human like. He would probably wear really poofy clothing, like Aladins pants. But its most likely a pig-man.

I'm convinced that the Namingway family is why the spell Piggy exists.

edit: Namingway's sprite was updated in FF4A and it seems he's more of a cat than a pig.

To end all discussion here, it looks to me like a pig with cat ears wearing a turban with a pink jewel on the front and glasses. It also appears he wears a dress, a cape and has a tail. I'm wondering what that is hanging off the sides of his chin though. That part kinda reminds me of Dr. Zoidberg.

Alright, here's how I've usually imagined him:

And that's not a dress, it's a book.

I didn't notice it was a book ever until now. I just always thought he was a midget or sitting cross-legged.

That's one thing I like about the older graphics - it leaves room for imagination. With the graphics in games now, you can see well enough that every character (in any game I've played) has no skin blemishes at all which in itself isn't very realistic.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who didn't see the book at first.

Is there just one of him on Earth, and he just has a knack for showing up where you are? That's the impression that I get on the moon.
