Correct me if i'm wrong, but everyone has a different point of view of Christmas.

Why do you enjoy Christmas? (if you do)
What don't you like about it? (if there's something you don't like)
Gifts, necessary?
etc.

I think that Christmas isn't really something that great as some thinks. Actually childrens usually only love Christmas because of the "gifts" and all they have to do is thanking the person. In my father's side family, there is a time for people to unwarp the gift boxes. That's the part I hate... why? Because it is so long and boring to see children being given toys that they will play less with it than the box that contained it. Not only that, but did any of you ever noticed how pathetic so gifts are? Such as Gift cards of 50$ in a shop. How much does it cost? 50$. See the problem? There is absolutely NOTHING good at buying things like that. Forcing someone to buy something at a shop.

And it's not because something is beautiful that you should buy it. It must have a use beside being just decoration (which is often given). Like CoN's stuff, it's beautiful and useful. Except if you don't wear T-Shirts, that you don't drink your coffee in a mug and not using a mouspad at your computer... I too often receive gifts that I don't like... And I feel bad for disliking them, because the other praticly wasted his/her money to buy it. So please, if you are unsure if the other will like it or not, be sure to check the warranty or ask THEN buy.

For me, this day is also one of the most painful day in the year. We head to the house of the designed person for the Christmas party at ~2pm. Then we eat at ~7-8pm Isn't that a little late? I always want to eat before but I can't... No snacks, No Fruits, No NOTHING. If you don,t know, we are supposed to eat 5 times a day. 3 meals and eat 2 times between meals during the day. This really hurts my stomach and this is probably why I don't like Christam that much.

I don't think I'll get any gift from my parents because I told them that I don't need/want anything.

What about your Christmas? That must not be the same thing for everyone.

I don't like Christmas to be honest.

I hate the all the shopping, I'm terrible at buying gifts. Christmas tend to sneak up on me, and I don't go shopping till late. They cancel all my favorite shows and put on pretty dang similar Christmas episodes. (If you've seen one chistmas episode of a show, you've seen them all. The only exception might be Boondocks' christmas episode.) The thing that ticks me off the most is the videos everyone sees on the news. Tramplings. People beating the crap out of each other for a gift. As Zodiac said, the kid's going to play with the box more then the gift itself, there's no need to stomp on that nice elderly woman for it.

Don't get me wrong though, I hate buying gifts and TV, but the Christmas spirit is good and all, just commercialized to Hell and back. I remember in High School, I'd wear my 'Non-comformist Santa hat.' It was red and green striped and had elf ears. Santa's been around for like 200 years, he has to be an elf! Unless...he's a robot!!!

I'm not sure what I'm getting. Obviously. There hasn't been too much to draw my attention this year. I want an iPod, but I don't want one if they're like still extremely expensive.

Fortunately, I'll find out pretty quick. My niece and nephew have made it that we open presents earlier and earlier. One year at 10 Pm, the next 7, then then next around 5, this year we'll probably open them as soon as they get here.

I enjoy Christmas for the most part. I admit as I get older it doesn't have that same magic in it. I usually get stuff I like, and that I'll use.

The thing that I can't stand is the debate over Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. I'm a WASP, a white anglo-saxon protestant, and I don't care that I'm part of the majority. I don't like affirmative action, which is really all this crap is. You aren't going to get rid of religionism and racism until you stop all of it, including all the reverse racism (i.e. black history month, hispanic history month. Where's Italian history month? Or Jewish history month?) But I digress. Christmas. Here's an idea. I say Merry Christmas to the Jew. He says Happy Hanukkah to the black guy. The black guy says Happy Kwanzaa (and y'know what else while I'm at it? I want a white holiday, and a men's only college, and an Average White Guy Scholarship) to me. We all go our separate ways, happy that we've spread our own unique holiday spirits. If the Jew wants to spit at me and sue me for wishing him a Merry Christmas, I can punch his teeth out, then cite the First Amendment, freedom of religion and tell him that I have as much right to spout my religious crap as he does.

I would like to state that I am not a racist. I am not Anti-Semitic. I am not white supremicist. I am against gangstas who promote illegal drugs and illegal acts(who just happen to be black most of the time), and I am against college students who get in to college because they're a minority (who just happen to be Hispanic or Arab or something most of the time), and I am against oppression of Christmas just because it might hurt the other guy's feelings.

I'm sorry, I just had to rant a little.

and i realy realy dislike going to church man we sit there for like 2 hours wiel last year the preformance was the same (BOOOOOORING)

The idea of christmas is good(peace on eath for all and such)

I don't do christmas at all. I figure since I'm not Christian there's no point. It all started back when I was an atheist - it would have been hypocritical to celebrate something I profess not to believe in (and on that note I spurn all atheists who continue to observe a faith they claim is false. Hypocrites!). Since then I've discovered Islam, though I haven't officially proclaimed my faith at a mosque yet. Even so, no Christmas... or Ramadan for that matter - can't until it's official.

same here. I'm beginning to see X-mas as just another day, except I have to buy presents for other people and My lack of money.

However, I do love to recieve gifts, and its just not X-Mas without watching A Christmas Story. I love that movie.

But, this year sucks. Its going to be my last christmas while living here,and I have had a lot of stress with school work, college preparation, and the whole ordeal with my computer...

Why couldn't I be a SeeD? Life would seem so much easier and more entertaining...

Christmas is my favorite time of the year!! The bright lights, the decorations, and the holiday cheer bought about in song (my favorites are Silent Night and Do You Hear What I Hear). I'm not too concerened with presents (unless I get what I truly want) and it's nice to recieve thank yous from those whom you bought gifts for. HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYBODY!!!

I really don't care about Christmas. The only good thing about it are the gifts and the dinner (it's the only time of the year where I eat turkey...and I love it).
But all the "Xmas Spirit" is just irrelevant to me. I don't care about the decorations, I don't care about the carols, I don't care about the holiday specials on TV and I don't care about the Xmas movies...

Also, I dislike the traffic and the way the stores are packed with people trying to buy something. There's even a street market that blocks an entire street just for selling Xmas stuff...

I dislike Santa Claus....I don't even know why do we have him in Latin America, he is just a nice way of showing Xmas to the kids and a symbol of commercialism (not that I am against it). When I have kids, I am not telling them who is Santa Claus.

I can't even go out of my house because the crime rate increases a lot in the holidays...
I am not going to be a hypocrite and say that Xmas is a time to share and be with the family, I can spend time with my family any of the 365 days of the year. Xmas is about Jesus but everyone seems to forget it, I am a "non practicant catholic" or an "independent catholic" so I care about the true meaning of Xmas but I am not going to say that I don't like the gifts and commercialism...

Xmas is great when you are a kid, but as you grow up you start noticing that it is not the magical time it used to be (at least for some people)
Anyway, I like Xmas despite all the things I have said.

I love the dinner and toys too! This year I'm getting Final Fantasy Anthology (IV and V) and Chrono Cross. And from other family members I'm getting Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy VII; Advent Children, that's all I asked for, all Final Fantasy, and dinner's always aweXome! HAm!

I wasn't waiting for so much people that would dislike or feel indifferent about Christmas. I judged too early...

Hey that reminds me What I saw at TV about a month ago, a group of journalist were interviewing children to know why like liked Christmas and not surpinsingly enough, 90% said only gifts, the other 10% was about family, or family and gifts.

I will ask my cousins (~16-25) today and tommorow to see if they feel the same way as I do.

I find your lack of faith disturbing...

I really, really, really, REALLY hate Christmas time. It's unbelievable just how much I detest it, but I've already written a very long rant about this.

Okay, but there was a goat!

I love Christmas. There are things I don't like, sure, like the commercialism, and cheesy specials (although some are gold. Muppet's Christmas Carol, I love you.) But all in all, I find any time that lets me spend more time with my mom and dad, and the rest of the people I love, and also gives me an excuse to get people shiney shiney things that make them happy, is a good time.

I entirely ignore the religious aspect of the season. I have no arguments to pose on that front.

All in all, I can't wait until I become a parent, and can share the traditions of the holidays with my kids.

I wholeheartedly agree. I am equally bothered by the incessant whining and demanding of everyone who takes offense at a simple attempt at holiday cheer. I'm almost waiting for the day they attack the radio stations who play some of the Christian-Christmas songs. It's really gotten sad.

Other than that, I have a lot of fun at Christmas time. Probably because I haven't been home often enough with my family moving to Virginia (with me in New York). My family goes all out, too, with the decorations - lights outside the house as well as candles in all our windows. We've held a great tradition of opening presents on Christmas Eve, so we spend all night enjoying our new gadgets.

Decorations. I love the lights and garland and tree and everything. Homes should be dressed up all year, it's so beautiful. I'ts not very often I see my family and have a full day of being together followed by a great big healthy meal [healthy in comparison to what i eat otherwise]

Seeing kids open up presents in the morning is wonderful too. I'm not bothered by the materialism attatched, if that's human nature, so be it.

I too am upset by other religions getting offended by Christmas decorations in public places. It's completely ridiculous, the beauty of so-called 'western' society is that you can have your own opinion and beliefs and not be murdered for being different. i think it makes them look terrible to be so anal about defferences when we accept them. No one was ever offended by Hannukah decorations in stores when I was a kid. I never see them any more though, which worries me as much as the anti-Christmas movement. I don't think Christmas is 100% religious anymore, like marriage. It's been a secular celebration in my household since before I was born. People should be celebrating diversity and appreciation for the beatuy and uniquness of humainty!

I'm terrible at buying presents though. Plus this year I'm broke, so only my better half gets something from me this year...

There's so much to enjoy - the general air of holiday cheer, the late-night shopping and the decorations (well, the tasteful ones, anyway) the food, the booze, the wonder of gift-giving, the wonder of gift-recieving - I don't care if it's commercialized: here, atleast, everyone is just so damn happy and that's what I love about it. This year I've enjoyed giving gifts almost as much as I have recieving them, and it's nice to feel appreciated. Christmas is perhaps the most prominent time of general goodwill, for me, and also the time to celebrate the aforementioned sense of goodwill.

Christmas is not just a regular day for me , its the day which means a bit of emotional effort to say to everyone "Merry Christmas", and though it adquired a different meaning by neoliberalism ideas, its feels good to the soul see good hearted people , and good , positive emotions that are emaned from the hearts of most of us. ....
Anyway, here its very different concept of Christmas ( in Argentina)...just the Christmas tree should be useless, since doesn't snow...so what's the point anyway? That kind of trees doesn't grow in my region, also here its summer, a very hot summer...and desertic weather. There are no carolings, we barely put lights into our houses, and we do cheer up the birth of Jesus. Santa??? Who is he?? , and what its his relation with Christmas??...Its just a caucasic , asexual, old fart programmed to say :" Ho ho ho " ,dressed in red that gives presents, and that makes us forget the effort behind the gifts, the hard work that we must do to receive something that we want. "I'll give ya a present, cuz' its Xmas"
Some aspects of Christmas are just and outside culture that was product of a globalization of culture . The culture of a determinated social group is unique , and gives glory to it. No doubt about that. But that all the world should celebrate Xmas the same way?? ...most people celebrates it like zombies, but moves people to forgive, to love each other, so its good. Man, I'm contradictory...

I love getting Christmas presents. I enjoy seeing my parents and relatives that I haven't seen for at least a year. I don't enjoy shopping or caroling. Yeah that's about it

I love Christmas miracles.

For instance, did you know Taco Bell now offers gift certificates? Mhmm. That's God's way of saying the world should be more amazing. ^.~

Anyway, I love Christmas. I think it should mean something different to everyone, though. For instance, our family always opens presents on Christmas Eve. We just do, and tradition's what the holiday is about, right?

Most of what I've heard as far as posts where people don't like Christmas are being based on the commercialization. That is not the intent of Christmas. Heck, just look at the name of the holiday, and you'll know what it's all about.

After reading Dragon_Fire's LiveJournal, I wholeheartedly agreed with everything he stated there..

I don't like how people celebrate Christmas by "giving gifts", "singing carols", or children trying to be nice all year long just so "a fat old man riding multiple floating reindeers comes to their houses and brings them gifts after eating the children's cookies and milk".

Christmas is NONE of the above. Nada. Why are people giving gifts to each other? It's not even their birthday (well, not everyone's birthday is on the 25th or 24th)!

The point in Christmas is to celebrate the BIRTH of Jesus Christ. It's not some "warm" holiday where you go and buy egg nog or crap like that. And what's with the "Xmas" thing? It seems like some athiests or non-believers took off the word "Christ" just so the other non-believers wouldn't be offended or something like that.

The way I define Christmas is this: Celebrate Jesus's birthday and feast to honor him.

This ought to be the worst Christmas I never had.

I've been looking around my cousins doing (since I really had nothing else to do) and about everyone who had no girlfriend/boyfriend were bored. Of course they weren't looking as bored as I was but I mean, it's okay to talk to people for about an hour of two, but what are you gonna do for the freaking 6-7 hours remaining!?!?

I was totally lacking space, it was noisy and... we started eating at - 8:50 -.

When midnight came I decided to go outside under the rain, then I could relax for a good 10 minutes. I received for about 285$ of gifts, but I don't really care about it. Gifts aren't going to make things "less" worse. I'd have rather stayed at home than going there.

I hate Christmas, and even if it was to celebrate that guy's ressusrection or birth (whatever I don't care), I wouldn't like it a bit more or less.

Now I can say that I totally agree with Dragon_Fire.

I celebrate Christmas based on the commercialization of it and that only. I love giving and receiving gifts and eating a huge meal. To me, Christmas is like Thanksgiving except there's presents. It's a little harder having to go somewhere else for Christmas though. Sometimes it's like, Ok I have the presents can I go home and use them or play with them now? It's a special time to give something to someone. And though I do still give things to people other times of the year, Christmas sort of centralizes it. I don't know. The shopping does suck but I still like it.

My take on Christmas is as follows:

While I'm personally not Christian, I recognize Christmas as a time for forgiving, for generosity, for being nice to others and appreciating them.

In this sense, I believe I preserve the spirit of Christmas, without letting it be clouded by any religious associations.

I agree to, sinc im the same way, but overall i like chrimstmas and it also means a great thing for me, time off from school!

Okay, so I have a question. I am an agnostic. I believe in nothing. As is my family. Some believe in God, but don't go to church for Christmas or set up Nativity scenes in their home or pray. Should we STOP getting together at Christmas and give eachother nice things and just go about as if the day were any other day because we're not religious and it's supposed to be a religious holiday ONLY? Should I throw out my tree and ignore my family because i do not have Jesus in my heart? If the other meaning of Christmas is so horrible and wrong and un-Christian, why was it allowed to be a part of the festivities in the first place? It didn't just appear in the past 20 years as excess consumerism developed. Who do we blame for turning Christmas into a sinful orgy of gift-giving and family-reuniting? It's so awful!

Yeah, I hate Christmas too. It's painfull, patience-testing, consumerist crap. I'd rather be eating grass and fighting disease in a third-world country.

PS: Jenny, no you shouldn't stop celebrating it. You should just rename it to the celebration of your choice and slaughter all the Christians as devil-worshippers. Thats how traditions are born, after all.

Italian-American Heritage month is October, to coincide with Columbus Day. There's a bill in Congress right now that would designate January to be Jewish-American History month.

I love Christmas. Call me a sentamentalist, but I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, and trying to find the best presents for people. I tried to get people reading this year, so I spent about $250 at Barnes and Nobles trying to find people books they'd enjoy. Plus there's great food, time off school, I just enjoy everything about this season.

And when the Bears beat the Packers on Christmas Day to wrap up the division and a first round bye, well, you really can't ask for more than that.
