Charecter designs have always been an intricate part of video games, and with these designs comes a plethora of colorful costumes, from the mysteriously concealing (Gogo: FFVI, Mitzuti: Baiten Kaitos) To the outrageously revealing (Ivy: Soul Calibur, Ayla: Chrono Trigger)

So, dear poster, in your opinion, who would you vote as the best, and worst dressed, in Video Game History?

I'll start off by nominating Relm, from FFVI, for best. Something about the bright colors, big hat, and crazy tasles (Only really veiwable in Amano concept sketches) really piqued my interest. Honorable mention goes to Vyse from Skies of Arcadia, for his glass Eyepatch, and the entire Selkie race from FFCC.

Worst? Hrm... Xelha from Baiten Kaitos is one of my least liked. What was with that puffy pink thing she had going? I also greatly dislike the habit of early FF heriones to go strutting around in bathing suits and capes (I'm looking at you Celes and Rosa.)

Best Dressed? I would nominate Dart from Legend of Dragoon actually. The armor setup seems almost purely logical to me. though, because my cpu is not readily accessible, I cannot identify key points.

Worst dressed would be the first girl from Star Ocean 3. Her outfit extremely bugs me for some reason.

Most Revealing: A 3 way tie between Ayame and Kasumi (from Dead or Alive) and Tifa (FFVII). I'm not sure as to why I said her though...

I'll start off by stating Kuja. My favorite FF villain EVER, so I'm inclined to vote for him because I'm biased, but his attire could also be justifiably listed as "worst" as well. Sephiroth gets the nod in best dressed with his hair, black outfit, and him carrying the Masamune. Honorable mentions go out to Sorceress Adel, the coolest-looking female villain in FF, and Kefka 'cause maniacal clowns rule!!

Edit
I forgot about Sorceress Adel from FFVIII after I read ultimage's post

Best: Yuna from FFX. The title and rank of Summoner was presented in a very dignified way by her humble garb and robes, and her ornate ceremonial summoning rod. Well done outfit.

Worst: Brother, FFX. Suspenders, leather pants, tattoos, a mohawk, and goggle-glasses?

Best dressed: Garnet from FF9, or Terra from FF6. And maybe Yuna and Rinoa too.

Worst dressed: Mario! His-a moustache is-a stoopid-a! Nothing against moustaches, but it is sooo not him.

Edit: Some I forgot! Worst dressed, Kuja and his thong (eww), Soma Cruz from Castlevania (bad, bad hair) and Firion from FF2. I don't know why but he just looked... female. Maybe he could start a cross-dressing club with Kuja, I don't know.

Best: Kirby. Natural look. Suits him loads.

Worst: Kuja. His body template is a girl's - they never changed it from the Japanese version, and he was a girl in that, apparently. And because of that... Kuja wears a thong... blink.gif

eh...no....kuja is, in fact, male. not very....masculine....but still a guy. just a very feminine, thong-wearing guy. (with all the horrible jokes that go with it...) ^^;;

Best dressed: Sephiroth, definately. And Wakka from FFX - thought that was a kinda sexy character model (blushing).

Worst Dressed: Sorceress Adel fom FF VIII. I'm sure anyone who played the game noticed that "she" had a very muscular MALE physique. What was up with that?
Kuja I wasn't happy with either. Not into femme boys smile.gif

XD I love video game clothes. This may take a while.

Tifa's outfit wasn't revealing, it was just... flattering.

Best dressed?
-I liked Feena from the first Grandia. Revealing, yes, but cute and bright. She totally started the trend of "revealing outfits but arms covered so it doesn't look AS bad," which Rikku totally stole. ^.~
-Terra from VI also had a cute outfit on. I could probably see someone actually wearing it.
-I think Lulu's looked really pretty, intricate, and gothic. So, they achieved a nice look for her persona. Plus, I love the hair!
-Garnet's princess dress heart.gif I've heard of people using it as a prom dress, and I think that sounds so adorable.
-Rydia! I think her monochromatic outfit is so cute, I love it!
-Reina/Lenna's dancer and monk classes! And pretty much all of Krile's. Mhmm.
-Squall's outfit, though a bit plain, was nice. The jacket a little short, but overall flattering.
-Locke's biggrin.gif If I met a boy in that...
-SHADOW'S. Freaking YES. ...I mean, it's very leathery and nice. I like his belt, too! ^.^

Worst dressed:
-The entire Chrono Trigger group of playable characters. XD Whatever look they were going for, they missed poorly. Why? 1. Lucca's goggles. 2. Marle's pelvic...device. Belt? Modernized corset? 2a. Magus' matching-yet-bronzer pelvic...device. 3. Lucca's helmet, too! 4. Ayla's lack thereof of clothing. 5. Crono's blue-on-orange getup. 6. Frog's entire outfit.
-Tidus. Ack. Not just the outfit, but the hair? No!
-Aeris' manboots have GOT to go. I've always hated them, and why, in AC, did they picture her in a denim-type red vest? That was a nono, too, if you ask me.

I wrote a reply for this some time ago, saved it in a Word document, and forgot to post it. Better late than never, right?

Hopefully my recent fascination with Project Runway has given me an educated opinion on this subject.

Best Dressed Male - I'm going to say Alucard from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. He's rocking the black armor, and the dark colors hit his pale skin very well without giving off too much of a suicidal weirdo vibe. The fact that he's wearing a sort of Elizabethan vest/tie underneath it adds to the game’s Gothic feel and makes sense in the castle setting. The fact that he has fully customizable capes makes him yet cooler - if you equip Joseph's Cloak, the second-best cloak, then you can color the interior and exterior of his robes as you want to, and if you equip the Twilight Cloak then it has a black exterior with an interior that fades from black to red to black again. Freakin' awesome.

Best Dressed Female – Jessica from Dragon Quest VIII wins, if only for the fact that she has seven costumes to choose from. Her default costume is pretty nice and has a color combination that works, but it’s a little too revealing up top (part of me *really* likes her exaggerated hourglass figure and another part of me thinks it’s way too much). “Jessica’s Outfit” and the “Divine Bustier” (my favorite) look great on her, while “Dancer’s Costume,” “Magic Bikini” “Dangerous Bustier,” and the “Bunny Suit” are probably too many curves to be very tasteful but still fun for variety. By the depths of her wardrobe and for her hot bod, Jessica wins. VA VA VOOM! (DQ VIII inside joke)

Best Dressed Cast - Skies of Arcadia wins this, partially due to the fanboy in me speaking and partially because some of the characters are genuinely well dressed. Vyse's shirt, bandanna, and kickass monocle/eyepatch make for an interesting main character, Gilder's badass jacket, glasses, and parrot are awesome, Drachma's armor, Il Duce beard, and robotic arm are quite imposing, Fina's dress is simple and elegant (and her pirate costume absolutely rocks), Ramirez and Galcian are both extremely badass, and Belleza manages to be attractive without being slutty (except when she's masquerading as Bellena). Aika's minidress and Enrique's robe are okay, but don't stand out. The character designs are part of the reason why this game is the best RPG of the past eight years, IMHO.

Worst Dressed Male - I'm going to say the main character of Magna Carta: Tears of Blood, who is called Calintz, as a quick Google search tells me. Calintz looks like a total shemale, wears what appears to be a minidress with trousers underneath and fabric missing in strange places, and seems to be wearing a thong in part of his exposed midsection. This guy makes Kuja look like The Rock, and his bad voice doesn’t help.

Worst Dressed Female - Tira from Soul Calibur 3 wins this in a landslide. Namco might have tried to make her look provocative, but she only looks like some kind of goblin wearing a dress that had been through a bramble patch. Her 2p costume doesn't impress anyone either, something like a Halloween scarecrow.

Worst Dressed Cast - Magna Carta: Tears of Blood. Every costume seems like either an experiment in cross-dressing, part of some bizarre fashion show, or a seven year old girl playing dress-up. It doesn't help that most of the men look like women and the women are far too blatantly sexual. I don't own this game, and frankly I don't see what my friend Alex sees in it.

Most "Revealing" Female - I'd be inclined to nominate a DOA girl as strikerbolt did, but the winner of this category can only be Shiranui Mai. If anyone says anything else then they're simply incorrect. Without Mai there is no Kasumi, nor any other of the all-too-numerous sexy kunoichi in all of video gaming.

VA VA VOOM!

I thought that was a reference to a stumped (lol) creature from Super Mario RPG.

Anyway...NOMINATIONS!

Best-dressed:

+ Alucard, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. If you've seen his character design, I don't think I have to expand further.
+ Dracula, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. He's an asshole, but his costume is pretty damn good. Plus, his likeness got featured on bottles of Captain Drac Spiced Rum.
+ Setzer Gabbiani, Final Fantasy VI. The cards make him look even cooler. Just try not to look at his sucky menu pic, and imagine him dressed in ornate clothing.
+ Cecil Harvey, Final Fantasy IV. The one who's probably the most handsome male in all of videogame history (sorry, Alucard)--and now imagine him, with that gorgeous white hair, dressed in crystalline armor and wielding a sword that shines of light so pure it...well, insert a good descriptor here.

Worst-dressed:

+ Kuja, Final Fantasy IX. I haven't actually seen this character in-game, or seen any better pics of him than the occasional avatar sprite here on CoN, but I can already nominate him for this category. Yes, it's that bad.
+ Tifa Lockheart, Final Fantasy VII. I like her personality, and I'd probably like her as a character overall a lot more if she didn't wear...um...that.

Uh... (a.k.a. most controversial):

+ Celes Chere, Final Fantasy VI. An eighteen-year-old professional military general--and not only that, her uniform consists of a green swimsuit (or something like that) and a white cape. Go figure.
+ Gogo, Final Fantasy V and VI. I can see everything but Gogo.

Quote (RelmArrowney)
And pretty much all of Krile's. Mhmm.

I think Cara (Krile) was cute, but I don't think her clothing is all that impressive.

Quote (RelmArrowney)
2. Marle's pelvic...device. Belt? Modernized corset? 2a. Magus' matching-yet-bronzer pelvic...device.

You're not the only person who is at a loss of what to call that article of clothing that covers the groin/crotch/pelvic area/body-part-that-doesn't-have-a-definite-name-either-apparently. And that's not the only place it appears--think a ton of superheroes, and robot costumes,..."brief(s)"? "pelvic device"? "speedos"? "bikini bottom"?

I liked Lulu's outfit from FFX. It's a little out their with belt mesh, but I think it works and I also enjoy the varying headpieces she adorns herself with.

I also like Shiranui Mai's outfit for various reasons, apart from the obvious.
