Hello everyone! I'm playing the FF4 J2E translation and my levels of most of my characters are about 58-60. I've gone to fight Zeromus a couple of times and failed miserably and I'm just wondering if there's a general opinion on what's a good level to fight Zeromus at or if there is some sort of special landmark or spell I need to level up to in order to have an easier time?
Thanks! Realistic Rain -------------------- "I'm on a caffeine buzz!" "No, you're on a sugar high." |

Generally that IS when I fight Zeromous. Once Rydia learns Meteo I generally consider that a good time for the final kill.

holy usually does 8000+ damage. (if not 9000+).
it will take a VERY long time, but try stealing the dark matter from the first form. -------------------- |

A few good tips:
Always have Rosa healing the party. Never spend any turn using Holy or even Life. Trust me, if you don't need healing when it first comes to her turn, you will by the time she casts it. Keep Kain on the ground, you need all your party members to stay to be backup when someone dies. Their job is mainly damage-doing, but they can take a break now and then to give an ether to a spellcaster or a pheonix down to someone who's died. Have Rydia casting Meteo or Bahamut every chance she gets. Don't bother with status boosters like haste and reflect, Zeromus will just use black hole and get rid of all of it. Repeat as needed until you've flayed Zeromus to within an inch of his life, then enjoy the ending. -------------------- "Some fight for justice. You ought to be able to take him by now. Here's my strategy:
First of all, make sure that Rosa is equipped with the armor and staff that raise her will stat the highest; similarly, make sure Rydia's wisdom is what you're concentrating on. Once the fight starts, Kain should jump continually. Edge should throw things, starting with the Spoon dagger (which I think was renamed Knife for FFC, so I don't know what it's called in your translation) and working his way down through equipment based on attack power. Either one of these characters can use healing items if necessary, or even if not necessary; they're not long for this world, so they may as well contribute an elixir or ether2 to the Bahamut or Cure4 funds before they expire. Once either of these characters die, leave them dead. The damage they deal in no way makes up for the fact that they suck up part of Rosa's healing magic. Rosa should cast Cure4 every single round. The earlier advice about Holy and Life not being worth it is correct. If you need to bring someone back up (and this only applies to Rosa, Rydia, and Cecil!), Rydia or Cecil should use the necessary items. If Rosa is the only person alive (and that's very unlikely), she should cast Life2 on Cecil and hope for the best. But if that happens, you're probably screwed, anyway. Rydia should summon Bahamut every round unless she's needed for emergency healing. Don't even think about casting Meteo; it isn't worth the MP drain. She can open up by using a Haste item on herself, if you think it's worth it. Cecil should attack or use MP recovery items, unless he's needed for emergency healing. He should have the Crystal Sword/Ragnarok equipped. He can open up by using a Haste item on himself, if you think it's worth it. The most important part of the strategy is to use only these three characters. Rosa's Cure4 will heal enough to keep the three of them alive when the magic is only split between three people, but you will rapidly succumb to Zeromus' hit-everybody attacks if Kain and Edge are drawing part of the healing to themselves. If you have enough of them, you can use elixirs every time you need any MP recovery. You shouldn't need more than about four in the entire fight, and it's not like you're saving them for anything else. -------------------- Veni, vidi, dormivi. |

Wow! That's very helpful! My general strategy has been the following:
Cecil: Attack Rydia: Bahamut or Phoenix Downs Edge: Throw/Attack Rosa: Cure4 Kain: Jump But here are the things that usually seem to be the problem. Rosa always seems to die before she can cast Cure or if she is able to, Kain is not affected because he's up in the air. The advice about having Kain on the ground may help a bit. I also use Rosa for Life2 which may hinder keeping my party alive. I have over 100 Phoenix Downs so I guess I could put those to use. I've tried to steal the Dark Matter, but waited about 20 minutes (even with turbo on my emulator) with no success. Anyway I can modify my strategy with these suggestions or others that might help me? Thanks! Oh, and Rydia, I believe, is one of my lower level characters so she doesn't have Meteo yet. Is it worth waiting to get it or will I not really need it for Zeromus? I don't actually use Meteo for the fight, however I feel it's a good benchmark to guage the readyness of my party. Meteo has too long of a casting time to be extraordinarily useful, but maxing all the people's skills is always good.
Having Kain jump is fine. I always do. Sometimes he avoids Big Bangs and whatnot. -------------------- If you've been mod-o-fied, It's an illusion, and you're in-between. I'd say the best time to fight Zeromus is right after you fight Zemus!
Okay, now that it's out of the way, the strategy that you have is good. I like to have lots of Excalaburs (cheater! cheater!) for Edge to throw. Also, I try to horde as many Elixirs as I can to use in this last battle (X-Potions are also great). Every now and then I'll take a gamble with Rydia's Asura call to either get lots of healing or mass life spells. I don't use Meteo too often with Rydia, so I'm not sure if you really need it or not. -------------------- kame, tortue, tortuga, schildkröte, tartaruga, turtle "Arthur Dent?" "Yes." Haha! I did it! I kept Kain on the ground and Rosa did nothing but cast Cure4. I was so surprised to beat him on the first try. The only people who died were Rydia and Rosa, and they were quickly revived and the final blow was delivered by Kain. And also, everyone had full health!
Thanks for all your help guys. Now, I hate to stray off topic, but on my way down to fight Zeromus, I was fighting a Red Dragon and I killed it, but as it faded, another just faded into view right on top of it. Killed that one....did the same thing... I ended up having to run away and it didn't happen again...just wondering if anyone else has experienced this glitch. Not that it matters. I beat the game! Whoo! Thanks everyone! Realistic Rain -------------------- "I'm on a caffeine buzz!" "No, you're on a sugar high." |

Quote (Realistic Rain @ 17th December 2005 10:42) I was fighting a Red Dragon and I killed it, but as it faded, another just faded into view right on top of it. Killed that one....did the same thing... I ended up having to run away and it didn't happen again...just wondering if anyone else has experienced this glitch. That isn't a glitch. The red dragon is just too large to have the total number of enemies fit on the screen at the same time. It isn't reloading the same monster; the encounter is just for more monsters than they can fit, so when you kill one, another one pops up. -------------------- Veni, vidi, dormivi. |

Congratulations, although there was already a topic on this. The Red Dragon thing is not a glitch. I think they wanted to put three Red Dragons in, but normally the screen will only hold two, so they put them on top of each other. If you summon Bahamut it will damage all three, and they will also attack individually.

Whoops! Didn't even check for another topic. Sorry. Anyway, thanks for info on that. It does make sense that if the enemy is too large to place them on top of one another...kinda Phantasy Star I-ish... I just had never seen it before.
