How does this compare to other forums??

I was recently surfing on another forum that shall remain nameless, and noticed a very disturbing trend: the mods on the site were routinely editing seemingly harmless posts. I got fed up with it to the point of leaving for good. I started a thread stating my farewell, though I'm sure the mods will delete it.

This forum doesn't seem too bad at a glance. I'll admit I've lurked for awhile, before finally registering. How do you guys feel these forum compares to others in the aspects I just mentioned?

SYSTEM OF SUPPRESSION!

I enjoy the structure this place has. It doesn't end up with 10 page tangents on a topic. If the topic is "Favorite way to wear a hat" it stays that way. Which makes me happy since I've seen poorly moderated forums end up with completely different sidetracks. Sometimes people claim a modification to their post is 'unfair' while what they fail to realize is they didn't read the rules in some manner. Some might call it 'Nazi-ish' while I call it keeping things in check where they oughta be. The structure is probably what keeps me coming back to the caves. I know I'm not gonna see someone talking about scrambled eggs in a topic about the WoR.

Go go Josh and co.

This site has (by far) the best forums I have seen so far. Ruthless and unmerciful mods and admin lurk here. No stupid post-increasing junk like roleplaying and "Whos the best..." or "What's your favorite..." The mods are sure to leave innocent posts alone, you can be sure of that. And no stupid mod inside jokes either! I've seen it in other forums, and I left them in disgust. Unlike other forums, this site has quality threads and members. Thank you for your time. (Man, I should write speeches!)

That does not sound encouraging in the least. Could you elaborate?

Basically it means that they have a zero-tolerance policy for anything against the rules. Be it advertising, spam or going off topic, the moderators will crack the whip and set things straight. Warnings and such are handed out to members for breaking rules and being stupid, overall, as well as posts editted for being inappropriate or again, stupid. As long as you respect the rules though, there's nothing to worry about.

Still, they're fair and despite our constant jokes, don't abuse the power that they wield.

Compared to other forums, the Caves of Narshe are a literal Utopia. There's plenty of friendly members and staff and a solid community. It's almost eerily well-kept.

Eerily well kept? Sounds unpromising. I don't like forums where you feel like you're 'being watched'

...Alright, I'm not supposed to say this but once your in, you have to sneak around and be quiet and keep to yourself bec------*choke*

No really man, it's great here. People are making it sound ruthless, it's actually a surprisingly welcoming community and site. It's only when you're really going out of your way and posting something common sense would say is stupid that you get (keyword: sarcastically and often funny) reprimanded. It's a nice place. I still keep coming back here and there even though I'm not all that interested in Final Fantasy anymore.

EDIT: I am officially 1337. I shall never post again.

I've heard ruthless, and I've already seen two threads get locked since I've been here. Something's up.

The forum is a well-oiled machine, and it's that kind of vigilance one would hope to find everywhere. At least, to me. Those edits set people straight before they can veer too far off course. smile.gif

Speaking of something being up. What's up with Cid-moongoose, iceberg slim, and some other guy all coincidentally joining on the same day and making bizarre (read: pimp-related) threads? Food for thought.

EDIT: Cloggy Bart, that's the third one.

We do edit posts to add comments at times relating to forum usage and rules. These are clearly marked out as our own additions.

We do not edit or remove parts of or entire posts that are already visible on the forums, with the following important exceptions:
  • Potentially offensive material
  • Illegal material
  • Inappropriate advertising material as defined by the forum rules.
We also reserve the right to remove content that looks suspiciously like (admittedly well-dressed) keyword spam, particularly from a lot of members who all suddenly registered at once, many with the same IP address and apparent interests. We're not quite sure yet why anyone would do such a thing, but hey, it certainly looks like they are!

i wandered in here after being banned from ffgurus and found a surpirsingly friendly community. even though i had never played any of the games they covered, i still managed to rack up 500 posts. that says alot for a site. that you can find so many things to talk about, in just three little categories at the bottom.

Well administrated!

Something I like about this forum is that RANGERS 51 actualy comes and hangs out alil with the members, unlike FF Guru's SEPHIROTH, who I consider a miracle of the Gods when he shows up, or maybe he lurks behind the shadows who knows, but I havn't heard from the SEPHIROTH dude in GURUS.

Altough I like them both forums very much (NARSHE's and GURUS'), I have to say this one has a brighter future!, unless...

Unless everyone who currently makes it awesome dies and a bunch of Stalin worshipers take over the site (Stalin, the Soviet dictator who could be credited with starting the Cold War. I'm only saying this to make my post more clear to some who mightn't understand it).

Hey guys, it's been like... two weeks or something. Considering how often I'm on the internet, it's strange for me to leave a site this great for so long!

Anyway, this site is great. The mods are pretty strict, but you can bet they won't edit any posts without good reason to do so, and they actually talk with the forum members, unlike some other places where the mods are always lurking in the shadows.

As long as you don't make stupid threads or act like a total jerk (or answer posts with "k u do that"), you'll be more than welcome here. Cheers!

I like this forum because their are few idiots who pop in and post off topic off rule messages. It's how I think a forum should be, and my favorite forum that i've seen thus far. Not much "elite" talk either.

It's a very good forum.

There's lots of intelligent conversation in a friendly atmosphere.
And the mods do their jobs well which is important.

Sure, conversations can get pretty heated at times due to strong disagreements but nothing that I would call a flame war.

I must admit I still feel I am going unnoticed a large amount of the time but at least I have the benifit of reading others thought, which are very interesting. thumbup.gif

No one goes unnoticed here for long, believe me.

My advice? Stop worrying about stepping on other people's toes so much when you post and just put your thoughts and feelings out there, without plastering *warnings* and *disclaimers* ahead of it, lest you hurt anyone's feelings. We're all big boys and girls here. We can take a difference of opinion. happy.gif

I'm sorry to read that a lot of you have had bad experiences on other forums. I don't think I've ever been on a forum with tyrant Admins/mods. And I've been to 20+ boards. *Shrug* Perhaps I'm just lucky, or perhaps I pick good communities. wink.gif
