Um... Right now I'm in the Rat's Cellar, where you basically surround the bandit's or Death Corps or whatever they're called, in this, like, run down ruins... And I can never beat them. Delita is always usually the first to go down, because he just runs in and attacks those strong guys (Sorry for lack of knowledge, I gave up last night and I got a little lack of memory from the game) But, every time I try to make someone an archer, they can't use the bow or crossbow. Does anyone have some battle strategies??
I've already tried the walkthrough on the Caves Of Narshe FFT page. -------------------- We, who cannot see into tomorrow, have no way of knowing... But... But... If you don't find dreams yourself... if you don't capture your ambitions... happiness won't just come to you. |

Monks with earth slash work well. Also, if you've power leveled, lancers can win the fight without ever moving inside the perimeter of the ruins.

Get a magician (with Arrow Guard, maybe, since that ability's easy to get) and wedge in the corner of the house and cast things from there. It's in the middle of the two doorways near the tree and you're fairly safe there with Arrow Guard.
Also, if you stop up the doorway(s) with a person with heavy armor (Knight?), you can trap them inside and bombard them with some quick-fire spells. Summons in this case work especially well since they're unable to hit allies, so they contour to just about every setting. -------------------- It's gonna be a glorious day I feel my luck can change |

Um... I've tried that, a Wizard. But it didn't work, because in the scene before that, where there are about... 2 archers, 3 wizards and that Knight interagating that guy about the Marque. That's where I lose with the Wizard, but, I'll try. Thanks!

If you have Arrow Guard on your wizard, more often than naught, he'll evade their projectiles. If you've tried the strategy and it didn't work, you might want to raise the wizard's brave a bit since it determines whether you get an arrow in the face or you sidestep it.

Ah! I see what your getting at now... I should definately try that. And, another problem, after I turn someone into another Job, how do I get more points for it? I think you just fight some more, correct? Because I can never use the new techniques I equip afterwards because they're always greyed out. Can anyone shed some light?

Um.. I'm having some more problems, right in the Slums of Dorter, I can't beat the two archers and three wizards and Weigraf. I can't beat them... Delita and Argus can up for the archer who always sits at the highest point. And that's how one of them gets killed, usually both, die from the other archer that sits at the bottom, and then, Weigraf sits at the top of those barrels and picks off Ramza or my other knight and squire! And the wizard I have keeps getting killed because the other guys he uses a spell on keep going right next to him and he hurts himself along with the other...
And then it just crumbles from there... Can anyone help?!?! -------------------- We, who cannot see into tomorrow, have no way of knowing... But... But... If you don't find dreams yourself... if you don't capture your ambitions... happiness won't just come to you. |

You get more JP (job points) by preforming successful actions in battle, meaning you can do things on yourself (Accumulate), use items, or just smack the enemies around. After you build up a collection of JP, you have to "buy" that job's abilities.
And...uh, how did you get to Sand Rat Cellar without first beating the Slums of Dorter storyline battle? -------------------- It's gonna be a glorious day I feel my luck can change |

Well, I originally played it the first time I got it and got there, but then something happened to my memory card and it deleted everything. But now when I tried to get there again... Because I hadn't gotten there yet, because I can't get past these guys! I figured by at least 12 tonight I'd be able to get past the Sand Rat place! But I can't...

'Kay.
Well, as you know, the archer with the longbow is deadly 'cause he can pretty much pick off whomever he wants. My advice is to make sure he's taken out and to find a place to fortify yourself in a "high" place. Doing this ensures that you'll not only be able to keep enemies at bay, but you'll have the advantage since they'll be below you. BUT. You need to get rid of those wizards, too. They only have 30-40 HP, so if you have any magickers or long-range fighters of your own, it would be a good time to use them. If you do fortify yourself, make sure you spread out so that you can't be hit by the "+" (five-panel) basic spells that the wizards know. That is also important, since, if you're not really keen on power-leveling, it'll evaporate half your life, at least. Besides that, you can mash and kill the rest. One of the archers doesn't even come with a weapon, the knight can be taken care of from afar if you keep your HP upkeep high (get a good chemist!), and archers shooting up at you is way better than archers shooting down at you (the other one has a crossbow, I believe). LIST OF PRIORITIES 1. Archer up top with longbow 2. Wizards 3. Archer w/ crossbow 4. Everyone else By the way, the knight might know a break move or two, so if you can get a few potshots off at him, don't feel bad about leaving someone else alive. If you get your armor broken, you might as well reset (maybe). -------------------- It's gonna be a glorious day I feel my luck can change |

If you go and train before Dorter in Sweegy woods or Mandalia Plains, you could possibly go for the ninja tactic. If you do, though, the strongest weapon I believe you can have is two mythril daggers.
I'm not 100% sure, but it's an idea. Ninjas are strong and fast, and if you have time to equip blade grasp to them they are invincible. It will take a while, though. -------------------- "There is not a liberal America and a conservative America - there is the United States of America. I was sooo close! I changed Ramza instead of a knight to a monk, and it seems to be working, but Delita dies to fast and Algus just gets in the way, I gave Ramza the Item technique and got a Wizard, a Chemist, and two Archers!!! It doesn't work! Should I switch Delita and Algus to something other than Knights??? I'm thinking of putting them both to monks, but I'm not sure, I need some insight first

If you really want to be on the safe side, give every single one of your controllable allies an Item secondary; if the two guests know any pertinent skills for the battle, give them it, too, because they aren't afraid to use it to cure themselves/the nearest ally.
Also, since your monk won't have the armor boost, you should probably stick to the setups that give you the highest evade for the time and the most HP. Really, Chakra, Revive, and/or Earth Slash are the only Punch Art abilities you need at this time (or ever), and they won't be too bad on a knight. Or, if you're too close but are getting tired of missing out on a victory, just level up a little more. It won't matter if you get sniped three times in a row if you can easily use your HPs as a meat shield, y'know? Although that does take some of the fun out of it... -------------------- It's gonna be a glorious day I feel my luck can change |

Thanks I finally beat it! Now I'm on the part where you fight Miluda for the second time. I found that making Ramza and Delita monks helped a whole lot. Thanks for all your help
