I think it would be cool to have a flame war forum, where posters can vent all their frustrations at each other completely uncensored. Any thing about any topic can be expressed in this forum. Nothing would be taboo.

Because this would really help member relationships and is a much better alternative to working out problems in a mature, adult way. smile.gif

If you have intense frustrations at any users, a flame war forum is only going to fan them and make them worse. It would cause too much unnecessary drama.

Silverlance is actually correct. A flamewar forum is a bad idea because it sows the seeds of ire amongst us. I'm afraid we'll have to continue glibly insluting people with sly off handed, passive agressive comments worked into seemingly harmless posts.

Aye, people take things to heart, even if it's an unfettered forum for people to "vent" angrily. I definitely don't think it would improve member relations, but probably break them down from the great state they're already in.

Nothin' to fight about right now that would escalate that far, so that should be a sign of how good things are goin'.

Actually, I believe someone may have suggested it before anyway, or something very close to this. Not that it matters.

From past experience on other message boards, flame war sections tend to have a hard time keeping to themselves. In other words, it often gets to the point where the flamers begin to invade other topics and it suddenly becomes "okay" to insult board goers back 'n forth all the time in nearly every topic on the board, thereby breaking what civility the forums once had. However, this place is filled with pretty competent members, so that probably wouldn't be much of an issue. But why risk it?

Yes, the only way to make the forums better is to create a spot where all the rules are reversed. Sounds peachy.

In fact, you can moderate it, Piffer! All we need from new staffers is a 2000 word essay about why they're a good fit for the job.

I'm with Silverfork on this one. On another forum where I lurk, there was a no-rules flame forum called Ad Hominem Ad Nauseum, where we could do those kind of things. However, things got so bad that the flaming and frustration directed towards certain people (one of the admins in particular) that at Nationals two years ago some guy that had said a lot of crap had to be expelled from the premises for insulting said admin and in general being a disruption during a game. After that, our boss admin deleted the forum permanently. Trust me, it's not a good idea. Leave uncensored frustrations to IRC or AIM.

Very bad idea. I was on one forum where people were free to insult each other how ever they liked. Never want to be on one again!

They attract some nasty and unintelligent people it seems.
