I have a bad habit of buying games and then never getting around to playing them, or only playing them for a little bit. Kind of a waste of money, eh?

Talk about the games that you've purchased (or had given to you) but have never actually played through. Let's say that less than half of the game completed with no plans to continue in the near future counts as unplayed, while more than half of the game completed and you just lost interest in it counts as being played. (If you really want to talk about those games, start another thread.)

Here's my list (that I can remember at the moment):

Siren - PS2 - survival horror: I just never got into this. I played the first few missions, but when I realized that shoddy controls, poor camera angles, and insane difficulty were going to unite to beat me down, I gave up. Oh well.

Eternal Darkness - GC - horror: Really, I'm going to play this someday. Everyone tells me how good it is. I just haven't been in the mood for a horror game that I don't know inside-out.

Fatal Frame - PS2 - horror: I played a few hours into this and really liked it, but realized that I hadn't been doing a very good job of conserving supplies, so I restarted the game. That was a mistake, because I lost interest in replaying what I'd already completed. Oops.

Resident Evil - GC - survival horror (really, I play other kinds of games, I promise!): I bought this because everyone seemed to like it, but I just can't get into it.

Arc the Lad Collection - PS1 - RPG: I played a little bit into the first game in the series but quit when the battles got insanely hard. Was I missing some trick of gameplay? Was I supposed to level for eight hours? I'm not really sure. The story didn't seem to justify the effort, though.

Lufia II - SNES - RPG: After the first few "get item, take item here, open new path, get item..." plot twists, I lost interest.

Secret of Evermore - SNES - RPG: Having to collect materials in order to level up magic was really frustrating, but I quit when I got to the coliseum and had to choose between a good sword and good armor. I couldn't decide, and I never wound up playing again.

Oh God. This list is sickeningly long for myself (all of those are either untouched or less than an hour played in). I still own all of these games, too, and I blame the inexpensiveness of old games.

PS1 - Brave Fencer Musashi, Valkyrie Profile, Tales of Destiny, Valkyrie Profile, the FF II portion of Final Fantasy Origins, Persona 2: Innocent Sin, Mega Man Legends, Dead or Alive. I'm working on them, trust me....

Dreamcast - I gave my Dreamcast away to a friend around two years ago, on the condition that he never sell it or any games, but there was one game I gave him that I owned but never played - Rayman 2.

XBox - Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. I bought this game intending to sell my PS2 version and replaying it for kicks, but I've never gotten around to it.

Gamecube - nothing, I don't think. Keep in mind I own six GC games, five XB games, and at least twenty or thirty PS2 games.

PS2 - Phantom Brave, Star Ocean: Till The End of Time, Primal, Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven, Primal, Klonoa 2, Wild ARMs 3, Beyond Good and Evil, Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne,

Handhelds - the only one that I can think of is the GBC Wario Land III I have. I'm never going to get to that thing, I should try and sell it.

Game Boy Advance -

damn, this brings me back:

War chess (PC): I bought this not knowing it was a very pretty version of chess. After playing about one game I forgot about it.

Gladiators: Intergalactic Circus games (PC): I thoroughly enjoyed the lovely graphics, but it was stupidly hard, and I got bored after the third mission.

Megaman and Bass (GBA): I got it at the same time as Megaman Battle Network 3 because I was in a megaman mood, but I realised how stupidly hard it was. I thought megaman Xtreme (gbc) was hard when I first played it, but it is nothing compared to this. I somehow managed to beat Cold man then gave up after countless deaths at the hands of Burner Man.

that's all I can remember off the top of my head...

Simpsons Road Rage

Poor, poor game, even if all you do is race around. To make it even worse, it plays out like a Crazy Taxi ripoff where you have to collect fares to save the Springfield city buses or something lame like that. I will pay you not to buy this game.

Star Ocean Til the End of Time

I actually played this quite a bit (up to the Marquis), but considering the game's length, I'd say I'm still in the shallow end. It wasn't bad, it wasn't terribly good, but it just ended up in the middle, which is when I find other games to waste time on.

Final Fantasy Anthology

As much as I want to, I still haven't gotten around to beating either FFV or FFVI. I dinked around the other day looking for the Phoenix Cave and couldn't find it, so I went off and played WA3. I guess they can't hold my attention when I'm feeling listless...?

WWF Raw

It was the worst ten bucks I've ever spent, and Tomb Raider: Last Revelation, for as shoddy as that game plays out, is infinitely times better. Perhaps I just wanted to believe the game could be good, after the awesomeness of WCW/NWO Revenge (64). Needless to say, I never spent another dime on wrestling games, and even gave back the Mayhem (64) game that someone gave to me since it played out the same way just about.

Samurai Legend Musashi

Uh...well, I actually played through the entire game, but now I can't think of a reason to go through it again. It was just a bland hack-and-slash with a hint of "Press (X) button a few times to learn this ability" junk. Some hard parts, yes, but I'm only going through again if I feel up to a game script (please let there be one already!).

La Pucelle Tactics

This game wasn't bad in any means, and after the fun of Disgaea and Phantom Brave, I actually have a reason to play this game. It just happened that I got bored and drifted to another game like I usually do, and never came back to it in-depth. 'Twas only twenty bucks, so I think I should give it another shot. Quite fun and still a little twist-up from the other Nippon Ichi-esque styles.

I'm not one in the habit doing these type of things, but there's one game that I'm guilty of it with: Link to the Past: Four Swords (GBA). I bought it used at GameSpot one time, and it stayed in my GBA tote ever since. It's not helping that I can't find it now, that I have yet to play it.

Edit
Yes, I've played the original SNES version of it

Ohh, I hate in when bought games collect dust (like my guitar).

FF Origins I currently have games on FFI and FFII, but haven't gotten around yet to finishing them. MediEvil I so wanted to finish, but it magically got lost when I lent it to someone. It wasn't a big loss considering it's been so long since I played before I lent it. Not too many more come to mind, but I'm sure there are Sega Genesis and more PS1 games that I forgot. FFVII is a game that I've beaten before, but I've been putting off another play-through.

Let's see,

Chrono Cross -- I just didn't get in to it like Trigger and so I got about 2.5 hrs into it and stopped.

FFV (from anthology) -- The load times bothered me originally so much so that I couldn't play it. Since that first time though I have slowly begun playing it again. I may in fact take this off the list.

I just don't tend to buy games I don't intend on finishing. Chrono Cross was a gift and I really bought Anthology for FFVI (not that I didn't want to play FFV, simply that FFVI was the primary reason)

Last year, for some reason I still can't figure out besides peer pressure, I bought the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game for XBox. It was only $20, and I was with a couple of friends at the time, and remember saying "I'm not leaving until I buy a game", and they thought it would be hilarious if I bought it. I still don't know why I chose this game, though. I played it for maybe ten minutes, got incredibly bored with it, and haven't touched it since. Shame.

I have all the Turok games for N64, which I've never played partially because I don't have a Save Pak. Though, honestly, I'm really just not one for FPS games.

I also haven't played Soul Calibur II in like nine months, the game just got really boring since neither of my brothers could touch me.

Hmm, I was always one of those weird kids who would rent a game 4 or 5 times before actually buying it, so everything I bought I played and enjoyed. There is only one case in which this differed:

FFIX (PS1) [Gift] - I remember getting this for Christmas one year, without having undertaken my extensive trial period first. The first couple of hours I thought it was great, but towards the end of the first disc I just thought it was tedious, but I pushed on. At the start of disc 2, I remember being stuck with the two characters I absolutely didnt want to be stuck with, Steiner and someone, so I put it down to play more interesting things and never got around to picking it back up.

some more recent examples, and the only other games which I havent played extensively:

Destroy All Humans (PS2) [Gift] - Got it back in July or so. I played about 25 minutes and lost interest.

Area 51 (PS2) [Gift] - Got it with Destroy All Humans. Still shrinkwrapped.

Unlimited SaGa (PS2) [Bought] - Back in September, used, but in mint condition. Since, I've played it on two occasions, both lasting 2 hours or so. It's not that it's a bad game, I fully intend to play it, I just havent gotten around to it yet. $20

Star Wars: Bounty Hunter (PS2) [Bundle] - Came with the PS2. Removed from shrinkwrap, but never played.

Onimusha 2 (PS2) [Bought] - In a clearance bin at a local store. Still in shrinkwrap. In all fairness, I've only had it for 3 days. $10

Wild ARMS 3 (PS2) [Bought] Same as Onimusha 2. Also $10

Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter (PS2) [Bought] - Same as the previous two. $20

Wow, that list was far more extensive than I had thought.

Here are my purchasing mistakes from the past.

FFVIII of course, no real explanation needed.

Colony Wars: Red Sun was another. The first two were an absolute blast, but the third installment of the series was something I just couldn't get into. The ships looked silly and the system for buying weapons and such was confusing and annoying. I gave up on it pretty quick. There was one mission on it though that was the coolest space battle I'd seen on a console, but since the rest was ass, it just wasn't worth it.

For me it's Shadow Man (PS1). Rented a long time ago. I liked it. Then I found it at a bargain price, but when I brought it home I couldn't remember what was good about it. Haven't touched it since.

Also Star Ocean 2. finished disc 1 with the dude. Didn't have enough patience to play through disc 2 as the chick. Again, forgot why I liked the game.

Star Ocean Till The End of Times- Nice game, but for some reason I don't remember I traded in!

SaGa- I don't remember which it was, the one where the red pirate chick starts out in a town where there's a funeral, didn't know how to handle the menus, TRADE!!

ATV Offroad Fury 2
came with the playstation, and I hated it, and I couldn't sell it (not for retail sale)

Of course, like many things in my household, it "mysteriously dissapeared"

seriously, We used to have it, but suddenly we don't have it. I have no frikkin clue as to were it went, nor do I have any recollection of me hiding it somewhere.

I have many games I have hardly played...

Unlimited Saga, I bouth it and when I went to see what the critics said about it I was shocked and dissapointed...I haven't even bothered to play it once (even though I once tried but I needed a Memory Card...)

Samurai Legend Musashi, I played around 3 hours and the got bored of it.

The Elder Scrolls III Morrowind, War of the Ring, my computer can't run them x_X

Legacy of Kain: Defiance, a friend scratched the disc accidentally before I could even play it...

Xenosaga Chapter II, I'll play it when I finish the first one

Shadow Hearts, I started to have nightmares because of this game (I'm serious T_T)

Prince of Persia, it sort of bored me...

Resident Evil: Outbreak 2, it bored me too quickly...

Killer 7, it was good...but I was distracted by Resident Evil 4 n_n

Final Fantasy- crystal chronicles. I don't think the game itself was so bad, but I couldn't get any of my roommates into it, and I think the game was enhanced significantly by the multi-player function, especially with PSPs.

Star Ocean- TTEOT- Like everyone else I enjoy this game, but haven't had the uninterrupted months of nothing to do that it takes to make a dent in the game.

Vagrant Story- Seemed like it could have been good, but I never really got the hang of the fighting system, so I gave up on it relatively quickly.

Backyard Football- I think Backyard Baseball is one of the more fun sports games out there, but it just didn't translate that well into football for some reason.

The SNES Star Wars games (one for each movie), Tomb Raider: Last Revelation, Donky Kong 64, some fishing game, and some war game were given to me as gifts, and I have yet to play them. The 2k1 sports games that came with the DreamCast, I've never played (sports games aren't my thing). Wild ARMs 2 and an Atarii collection for the GBA I got I haven't gotten around to yet. I haven't touched FFVIII in forever, and FFVII has been played less recently.

FFT: I can't stand the uber-long battles, and I think I've only gotten about 4 battles in. I've tried to play it a few times.

FFV: I have it on Anthologies, and just kept losing interest.

Xenogears: I lost interest in it.

Kingdom Hearts: Lost interest in it early on, and didn't like the battles. This is a big point for me; if I feel that I can't play the game for all the fighting, I lose interest.

There are about 47 (!!) various console games that my husband owns that I've never played. I don't have an interest in most of them, and I don't think my husband has finished a quarter of them.

This topic was made for me.

Games I've bought but haven't beaten....

PC - Morrowind, Diablo 2, Dungeon Seige, Starcraft + expansion

GCN - Eternal Darkness, Resident Evil, Resident Evil 4, Tales of Symphonia, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, Metroid Prime, Super Mario Sunshine, Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat, all the games on Sonic Mega Collection, Lord of the Rings: The Third Age, Goldeneye: Rogue Agent, Animal Crossing (Could not get into this game), Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 2 (More but I can't think of them/ don't want to to look at them to remind me)

That game was on the NES/Famicom. I take it you mean Final Fantasy Legend II (for the Game Boy), which really isn't a Final Fantasy game at all. It and the other two FF Legend games are part of the SaGa series, but were renamed as such in North America as a marketing ploy.

As for me:

Star Ocean: Till the End of Time - I really enjoy the original Star Ocean and Star Ocean 2, but Star Ocean 3 just couldn't hold my interest. I think I got about five hours into it before quitting.

Radiata Stories - Much. Too. Slow. Seriously, the game progresses like frozen sludge, and even after twelve or so hours into the thing I still couldn't detect any hint of an actual plot.

Resident Evil 0 - The two-character system got old very quickly, and Capcom's bright idea of nixing the item storage crates was sadistic at best. I dunno how many times I was forced to backtrack the entire length of the mansion or estate grounds just to pick up a key I didn't have room to carry. Most of my hours recorded on my single file are 'cause of things like that!

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - Unlike the other GTA games, I just couldn't get into this one. I have no clue why though. Maybe it was the characters, or the atmosphere... or the awful realization that I was once again trapped in the 80's.

Sunset Riders - I used to love this game; I'd play it at the arcade every chance I got back in the day. I even beat it after spending around forty or fifty some-odd quarters. I later got the game for the SNES, but to this day I've never once touched it. I guess the replay value isn't too high, but I've really been meaning to play it again, I just keep forgetting.

The Adventures of Dino Riki - One awful and badly programmed NES game. I could never get past the second or third level - it's freakin' brutal! Think Adventure Island, but with dozens of objects, projectiles and creatures slamming into you every nanosecond.

All the aforementioned games that I played but abandoned weren't even progressed halfway through... I don't think.

To be honest, I have an appalingly large amount. I do have a real reason however, and that is my sister. Whenever I go into GAME, I am either simply having a look with possibility of purchase, or looking for a certain game to buy. Then my sister either gets bored and rushes me into buying a game I dont want all that much ( I do try to play these) or she buys about six on top of my one.

Eg. I went into GAME recently to buy The Sims 2 Christmas Party Pack after meeting my sister in town. I left with the aforementioned game along with:

1. Sherlock Holmes: The Case of the silver earring (I just got her into CSI)
2. Wildlife Park Gold Edition (No idea...)
3. Medal of Honor: Rising Sun
4. Medal of Honor: European Assault
5. Delta Force: Black Hawk Down. ( I was looking for a future purchase to maybe get ONE first person shooter... but I got stuck with three... great.)

I also wanted to say if there is anyone living in England who wants to sell some games they don't want, I am quite interested. Just PM me ok? Just so you know I am looking for a copy of FFVIII (shock, horror!)
