This is my first mac. I saw it at the store and couldn't resist, even when I found out I had to buy the mouse, keyboard, moniter, and an extra USB port separate.
I spent most of the day yesterday loading my music collection. Since the Mac didn't come with speakers, I simply ran a wire from the Sound Out to the Auxiliary input on my stereo. It sounds awesome! I also tried to play FFVI on a Mac version of SNES9X. It was...different, but not necessarily bad. The sound quality isn't there like it is with ZSNES, but walking through Narshe and on the world map seemed smoother on the Mac for some reason. The 2sxai Engine runs GREAT, even at fullscreen; this is something that just doesn't happen on my windows computer. Other than that, it has 512 MB RAM, an 80 Gig hard drive, and a 1.42 G4 GHz processor that I think is much faster than a Pentium IV or an Athlon of the same speed. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. A great computer if you're looking for a general needs sort of machine. I highly reccommend it. ![]() This post has been edited by Piffer on 27th November 2005 16:15 |

Well, you know what they say: "Once you go Mac, you don't go back."
I haven't seen one of those Mac Minis yet; I rarely hang around the computer sections in stores anymore 'cept when I desparately need to purchase something. If your Windows OS is anything like mine was, you'll likely find your new system to be far more stable, much of its software of a higher quality, and the hardware itself more durable. And it's great for both work and play; sorta a fine balance of both. Yes, I'm faithfully anti-Windows and morally against PCs with petty three-year lifespans, but I believe I've earned the right. ![]() Plus I've found my Mac to be more cost-efficient down the road, partly due to no required repairs or hardware replacements after nearly seven years, 'less you count the internal clock's separate battery (which I never had replaced anyway). So congrats on your new, splendid-rific computer! -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. If anything simply cannot go wrong, it will anyway. Nonetheless, seems like a pretty decent low-to-mid range machine... and at the end of the day, top end systems are always a complete waste of money for the improvement you get out of them. I've actually considered getting a Mac Mini in the next couple years - not for a machine to use as my primary machine, because it simply isn't sufficient for what I need - but instead as a media center in the living room or in one of our cars.
People from chat will be familiar with me linkspamming this tuner's weblog around for the past several months; being that one of the cars my wife and I share is a GTI virtually identical to the one in that article, I think it would be a fun mod to do. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how long we're going to keep that car, so I probably won't ever justify doing it. Bottom line is that it's a decent machine, and I have always been a fan of Mac design (Which is why I have a G3 case sitting in my office, just looking for something to use it for). But as a computer, to me, it's not really very useful at all. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

Sounds Nifty! How much was it? My computer became outdated and crapped out, so I've been writing here with either my PSP or my BF's laptop, so I'm in the market for a new one.

But you do get OSX, Nanosaur, Sherlock, itunes (awesome), imovie, iDVD, iphoto, Quicktime DVDviewer, preloaded. And I know that 1.42 Ghz doesn't sound fast, but I'm already seeing it outperform the 2.5 Ghz Pentium 4 we have downstairs. EDIT--I've found that Safari sucks when it comes to posting on PhPbb forums. I've since downloaded Firefox and it's smooth sailing! ![]() This post has been edited by Piffer on 29th November 2005 00:59 |
