For me someone with the sing ability is a nice addition
raising stats, requiem hurting the undead for nice damage
so bards in ffv are actually useful to me

as for dancers sword dance is a great ability, but you only have a 1/4 chance of getting it
and the other dances aren't very good at all

so i say bards are useful, but dancers really aren't

Only Dancers. I never really got into Bards, since you got them in a weird part in the game. When I got them, I already had a pretty well-rounded party, so I didn't really have place for a Bard. And I did a Dancer SCC. wub.gif It was so easy. Sword Dance was one of my favorite abilities in the game.

I didn't really use either of them too much, but I can imagine they each have their uses. On the one hand, Bards can boost their stats to the moon and back, sorta like Chemists, and can deal some huge damage to undead enemies. Dancers have Sword Dance and some other decent attacks, but mainly Sword Dance. I vote both.

I might continue my Bard SCC...

I prefer Dancers. Sword Dance is a great technique, and so is Jitterbug.

Both of them are kinda cool. Not someone you want to take to fight X-Death or the like, but fun.

Bard's have 'ownage' when it comes to the undead. Just sing a 're-funeral dirge' (requiem) and the get exocised. Sing may make a decent secondary ability, but I never really bothered to try it. Also Temptation Song is a good way to charm/confuse enemies.

Dancers are almost a joke until the near-end of the game. If you steal the 'dancer equipment' (Red shoes, Prism dress, ribbons and a Maneater?)from enemies in the Phoenix tower, a dancer has a huge chance of Sword Dance and become a somewhat risky, but fun character.

Although by then your Knights, Dragoons and Summoners have Excaliber, Holy Lance and wonder rods and they're solid jobs.

So in conclusion, Situational, but fun.

I found dancers very useful, but bards? Not so much. I just couldn't get into their singing, and I will always be against bards after FFIV (jeez he was such a coward). But I digress. I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered Sword Dance, and I got it quite frequently despite the 1/4 chance. I believe there was also a dance that was similar Osmose or Aspil. And since I had Faris master black mage before having her become a dancer, that was pretty useful too. So blah.

As for bards, I never discovered the usefulness of Requiem Song in damaging undead, but I still found bards somewhat useful. I remember having convenient fun confusing the heck out of enemies while leveling up the Bard class. (I had each class mastered by at least two characters, except for Red Mage, which just took too long.)

On the other hand, I only found Dancers useful for the Sword Dance move, which wasn't constant and could be screwed up by undead (reverse draining MP properties). Now, if I thought more about equipment, they might be more useful, since they have Equip Ribbons, which basically translates to Status Protection, but I never put much focus on that.

I find both of them very useful, apart from when you get the Dancing Dirk in the Combined World then you don't need a dancer, you just need someone equipped with it to do the dances.

The dances were very helpful as I was a dancer who had the command !Black in the second slot, so I would use magic and my MP would soon empty and then I'd dance and it'd restore by one of the dances which (for me) came up heaps! I found that very helpful during the Guroceana part in Galuf's World. And as for Sword Dance I didn't really care if that didn't come up 'coz Jitterbug would. And let's face it - draining above 1000 HP off of enemies is still pretty good, especially since it goes to you!

Bard's are only really helpful with Requiem in the Pyramid and in the Valley of Flying Dragons, but hey Omega is pretty weak compared to Bards!
