If you're using Zsnes, simply put the save file in the same folder that the ROM is in. The save file should be a .srm file.

also on bothe the Zsnes and snes9x
Shift+F1, shift+f2 etc. will save exactly where you are

and then Ctrl+F1 will load the saved state

Actually, it's just F1, F2, ... on SNES9x. (Note: I don't use ZSNES, so don't ask me about that one.)

hm...i put them in the same folder. (i have zsnes) but it still goes to a new game automatically, like if you never played it before. (the save file is a srm file. )

im playing with the rpge patched rom, is that stopping the save file from working?

Make sure you change the filename to match your ROM filename. For example, if your rom is FF3.smc, name the save file FF3.srm.

Note that loading an emulator savestate (.zs? and .00? files) will usually load whatever proper SNES savegames (from the srm file) there were when the state was saved. I think that might be the worst sentence ever, but if you can work out what I mean, it's quite true.

Final word on savestate keys (by default):
In ZSNES, use F3 to select the state slot, F1 to save in that slot and F4 to load from that slot.
In Snes9X, use shift+F1-F9 to save in slots 1-9, and F1-F9 to load from slots 1-9. (That's how it used to be last time I used Snes9x any amount, anyway).
